Chapter 38 - Calm before the Storm

In a way, yes. The same way you guess, I do too, just with better accuracy… I am not omniscient after all. So tell me, what type of people came?"

"You're weird," Grace replied with a chuckle before reaching outward to the world around them.

"Aww, thank you, I love you too," Leon replied before kissing her cheek.

Doing so, the two immediately fell into laughter. However, if only they knew just how much change they had brought to the world with merely their actions.

"Wow, there are really a lot of secret organizations in the world. There is one named S.H.I.E.L.D., there is the Hand… Wait, I've heard this one before, Hydra," Grace said as a slight frown appeared on her face.

"Hydra? Isn't that a Nazi organization? How can they be here?" Leon asked as he sat up.

"Should I read deeper? I can report them to the government. Those S.H.I.E.L.D. guys seem to be working for the United Nations."

"That will cause more trouble. Just let them be; we stand to gain more from maintaining the peace," Leon said as he gave a sigh and relaxed back into the chair.

"Hmm, you're right," Grace said as she relaxed into the chair, but she never gave up monitoring.

The more she found out, the more she doubted if this was really an auction house or if the painting was that valuable to them.

"Good, you're seated," a voice sounded as the door was opened and then closed.

"Dad/Mr. Frost!" they both called out as the man took his seat beside his daughter.

"Get seated; the auction is about to start. From what I hear, there are some pretty high-net-worth individuals here, so we should be expecting a very good price," Winston said as he relaxed into the chair.

As though on cue, they soon saw a man who seemed to be in his middle age, or probably approaching it, step onto the stage.

They could only see it through the TV before them, but it was a direct broadcast, so it was live.

"Ladies and gentlemen, distinguished guests, welcome, and thank you for joining us today for what promises to be an extraordinary auction! Whether you are here to bid, to admire, or simply to enjoy the thrill of the event, we're delighted to have you," the man began.

"On offer today: rare treasures, unique pieces, and once-in-a-lifetime opportunities. Every item has its own story, and tonight, you have the chance to become part of that story."

"Now, before we begin, a quick reminder: please ensure you have registered and collected your bidding paddles or digital bidding devices. Our team is on hand to assist with any questions."

"So, without further delay, let's begin. Our first lot tonight is this vase found in the tomb of…."

The auction had begun in full effect, starting with some random vase found after desecrating the tomb of some past emperor in Asia.

The bidding went on as more and more items were brought to the stage. As time passed, it became very obvious just how highly the auction house had appraised the painting to be.

There was the saying to always save the best for last, and for an auction house,

After what seemed like forever, the painting was finally brought to the stage. The very instant it was showcased, Leon felt a massive change in the atmosphere of the place.

"It's very concerning that I was the person to create that," Leon muttered as he sat up.

He could feel that this very moment would be the start of a whole lot of trouble, but then, he had long since opened the door. It was time to deal with the consequences.
