Chapter 24 - 23- Only strike when you’re sure you’ll hit

She then took a deep breath.

"The process of creating positive energy, also called the reverse technique, is so complex," she murmured, her eyes still fixed on Ryosuke. "So difficult that even the most experienced sorcerers rarely succeed. I… I can only use it on myself, and even then, not always successfully."

Ryosuke blinked, a little caught off guard. Now that the excitement had settled a bit, he realized he had just accomplished something far from ordinary.

"Am I really a genius?"

The thought pleased him. He could already see himself sitting among the greats of this world. A high schooler barely sixteen years old.

"And you, Ryosuke," Yuki continued, lifting her gaze to him again. "You just did it… as naturally as if it were the simplest thing in the world."

Normally, Ryosuke would have rejoiced and exulted, but out of respect for his aunt, he held back. He'd have plenty of time to boast later.

Yuki leaned slightly toward him, narrowing her eyes. "How did you know positive energy could heal? I've never told you about that."

Ryosuke furrowed his brows subtly. After a brief moment of thought, he shrugged.

"It was just logical, wasn't it? When I release cursed energy, it's like something breaks inside me, like I'm letting go of negative pressure—something dark. So, I figured positive energy would be the opposite… If one destroys, the other must repair."

Yuki stood still for a moment. She sighed softly, her gaze softening, almost resigned.

"I think I was wrong to believe I could teach you something… You understand everything on your own. Maybe even better than I do."

Ryosuke shook his head sharply. "No, Auntie, that's not true! If I was able to use positive energy, it's thanks to you. You're the one who helped me understand. Without your explanations, I'd never have managed it. You showed me the way, gave me the basics. I still have so much to learn from you."

A faint smile softened Yuki's features. She straightened up, letting out a small laugh.

"And to think I'm the one supposed to cheer you up, yet you're the one who ends up giving me courage."

Ryosuke, a little embarrassed, lowered his eyes, but a modest smile tugged at his lips. He wasn't trying to impress his aunt; he truly wanted to learn from her.

"But there's one more thing," he said quietly, raising his eyes to meet hers. "I'd like to learn how to fight."

Yuki looked at him, surprised. "Fight?"

Ryosuke nodded with determination. "Yes. It's all well and good to master techniques and Jujutsu skills, but I'm sure that in reality, you also need to be able to defend yourself physically. Jujutsu isn't based solely on techniques, right? I assume you also need to know how to fight with your fists."

A silence settled between them as Yuki carefully studied her nephew, then she gave a mischievous smile. She then stretched lightly, cracking her joints.

"Alright," she said, a playful glint in her eyes. "It wasn't planned to move straight to combat, but I think we can skip the other lessons for you."

Ryosuke's eyes widened, caught off guard. He hadn't expected her to agree so quickly, let alone with this sudden burst of energy from his aunt.

The truth was, that had been Ryosuke's real intention from the start. He wanted to face a jujutsu sorcerer and truly measure his abilities against a human opponent. He thought he'd have to wait for the parade to do it, but fate had just given him the chance earlier than expected.

And he was thrilled.

"Alright, first rule," Yuki said. "Always stay on your guard. Never let yourself get distracted. No matter how confident you are in your Jujutsu abilities, someone more experienced could take you down in the blink of an eye if you drop your guard."

Before Ryosuke could even respond, Yuki moved.

With a quick, precise motion, she feinted an attack to his left side. Ryosuke instinctively raised his arms to defend himself, but barely had he reacted before Yuki had already pivoted and landed a light strike on his right shoulder.

Ryosuke staggered under the impact, surprised. He hadn't even seen the blow coming. Yuki, on the other hand, wore a faint, knowing smile.

"Too slow. You reacted to the first attack, but you didn't anticipate the second. In a real fight, that would have cost you dearly."

Rubbing his shoulder, Ryosuke's eyes glinted with determination. "Alright, I get it."

"Second rule."

Yuki hadn't even finished speaking when she raised her hand in a sure motion to block Ryosuke's side kick. Her movement was so fluid and precise that Ryosuke, thrown off balance, nearly stumbled.

He tried to chain into another attack, attempting to regain the advantage, but Yuki, with disconcerting speed, grabbed his ankle. In a controlled movement, she sent him flying backward before slamming him against a tree. The impact was brutal, and Ryosuke felt the air leave his lungs as he crashed hard against the rough bark.

Before he could even get back up, Yuki continued:

"Second rule: never stay static."

Still dazed, Ryosuke tried to get back on his feet, but Yuki was already right in front of him, her shadow cast across his face.

How had she moved so fast?

He didn't even have time to understand what was happening before she raised her arm, ready to strike. By reflex, he crossed his arms in front of him to protect himself. But to his surprise, instead of aiming for his side or stomach as he expected, Yuki struck him directly in the head. The blow was clean, precise, and enough to disorient him. Before he could react, she followed with a kick that sent him rolling across the ground again, this time even more violently.

Ryosuke grimaced in pain as he landed, but he refused to stay down. Clenching his teeth, he quickly got back up. Without hesitation, he launched into a new series of attacks.

This time, he decided not to hold back, chaining punches and sweeping kicks, hoping to at least force her to step back.

But Yuki dodged with ease. Moving nimbly, she kept speaking without the slightest difficulty.

"Third rule: only strike when you're sure you'll hit."
