Ryosuke blinked, bewildered. For a brief moment, he didn't know what to say, his mind struggling to process the sudden shift.
He looked up at Yuki, lips slightly parted, but no sound came out.
Sensing her nephew's confusion, Yuki offered him a reassuring smile, then let her hand fall back to her side. She stepped back, still facing him, her eyes locked onto his. A deep sigh escaped her lips as she briefly looked away.
"You know, Ryosuke," she began softly, her voice lower than before, "you're not wrong to be cautious. Even with me, even with your own family." She paused, watching his face to make sure he understood. "In the world of Jujutsu, caution isn't a weakness. On the contrary, it's a vital trait. Because in this world, information is power. The one who knows more, the one who understands the hidden mechanisms, always has the upper hand."
The wind began to blow gently, rustling the leaves of the trees around them.
"It's a cruel world," Yuki continued. "A world where those close to you today might become your enemies tomorrow. A world where trust is a luxury you can't afford to give lightly." She shook her head slightly, as if she herself had trouble accepting that truth. "Being on your guard, even with me, isn't wrong. It's what will help you survive."
Ryosuke felt his heart tighten even more at her words. He hadn't wanted to live in constant mistrust, especially not toward his own family. But hearing Yuki say that it was not only understandable, but necessary, struck him deeply.
He took a deep breath, struggling with the conflicting emotions swirling within him.
Yuki was still watching him, her gaze gentler now.
She stepped toward him again, and this time, she pulled him into a strong embrace. A simple gesture, so unexpected.
"Thank you for trusting me, despite everything," she said in a barely audible voice, nearly breaking with emotion. "I know it's not easy… and I'm sorry you have to live in such a world."
Ryosuke froze, shaken by the vulnerability she showed—she, who had always seemed so strong, so unshakable in his memories and in the manga.
He didn't know what to say for a long moment. But he knew his aunt was right. He could no longer afford to see the world through the eyes of an ordinary teenager.
Eventually, he straightened up a little. "Thank you, Auntie," he murmured, his eyes shining with emotion.
Yuki smiled and, in a familiar gesture, gently ruffled Ryosuke's hair. "Smartass," she said with a laugh. "I have to admit, I never thought I'd be talking about Jujutsu with my own family…"
Ryosuke gave a timid smile. "I guess I still have a lot to learn."
"That's putting it mildly," Yuki replied with a wink. "But now that you've told me the truth, we can move forward."
She stepped back and stretched, as if preparing for something important. "Now that everything's clear," she said, turning to him with her hands on her hips, "it's time to truly begin your training. No more pretenses this time. Are you ready?"
Ryosuke, still a little nervous, nodded. "I'm ready."
Yuki studied him for a long moment. After a pause, she sighed softly, her arms crossed over her chest.
"Before we go any further, dear Ryosuke, there's something I need to know."
Ryosuke frowned, caught off guard by the sudden change in tone. "What do you need to know, Auntie?"
Yuki stared at him seriously. "The world of Jujutsu," she said calmly, "is a dangerous place, a terrifying one, even. And to be perfectly honest, I'm still not sure if bringing you into this world is a good idea."
Ryosuke opened his mouth, ready to protest—to say that he could handle it, that he wasn't afraid—but Yuki, anticipating his reaction, raised a finger to silence him.
"Let me finish," she said. "This isn't about courage or strength. You've already crossed a threshold that can't be undone. You've become a Jujutsu sorcerer. That much is already settled. You can't run from that reality, even if you wanted to." Her voice had softened, but the seriousness remained. "But before I make a final decision about how I'm going to train you, there's one thing I need to know."
Ryosuke, still puzzled, had no idea what to think. He stared at her, trying to grasp where this was going. "What do you need to know, Auntie?"
Yuki took a deep breath. Her face, usually so calm, took on a serious and mysterious expression. "Ryosuke… what's your type of girl?"
The silence that followed was heavy.
Ryosuke froze, eyes wide in shock.
"Huh?" he finally blurted out, unable to hide his bewilderment.
He stared at her in disbelief, but Yuki, still deadly serious, crossed her arms and gave a slight nod.
"You heard me," she said without the slightest hesitation. "I want to know your type of girl."
Ryosuke shook his head, trying to understand. "But… what does that have to do with Jujutsu? I don't see the connection…"
Yuki sighed as if she had expected that reaction. "I know it might sound ridiculous, but trust me, this question is more important than you think. The kind of person you're drawn to says a lot about who you really are. It reveals your values, your hidden desires, and most of all, it sheds light on your personality."
Ryosuke still didn't get where she was going. He scratched his head, uncomfortable. "I… I don't really get it… how is that connected to all of this?"
"In the world of Jujutsu," she began, "there's something you need to understand. To survive in this cruel world, you have to be just a little bit crazy. If you're not a little eccentric, a little mad, the world will force you to become that way—but in the wrong sense."
Ryosuke blinked, still lost. "The wrong sense?"
