It was a warm summer morning, warm enough to make one feel as comfortable as though wrapped in a thick blanket. This warmth was also a sign that it was going to get unbearably hot in the next few hours. The sky was beautiful, clean and blue with no clouds present to obstruct the view of the sun.
'The sky's so beautiful today, I wanna just stare at it all day. Unlike the face of that absolute disaster of a being! The epitome of misfortune! waiting for me in that building.....That principal!'
thought a boy standing right before a university building.
The boy was slightly obese and had messy black hair. His eyes were black just like his hair and his nose was straight and slightly long but thin. His slightly long hair being the slaves of gravity covered his forehead almost entirely. No fat was deposited on his face making him look decent, his torso and thighs gave an idea about how fat he was. His height was about 5'9. The boy's name was Avon Starlight, a 2nd year student studying sound engineering.
Avon had a neutral expression on his face, no one could tell how chaotic his mind was on the inside. He had been called by principal of his university because of an absolutely ridiculous reason, so idiotic that Avon couldn't believe this was actually happening.
'I hate this attendance nonsense! Why do I need 80% of attendance no matter what, marks and knowledge are what matter! First of all they don't even teach so well! The reference books are many times better than their explanations! If I spend most my day here then how will I have have the energy to read the books! If my marks are good enough just let me be! That HoD too! Sending me to the principal just cause I argued a bit....what a headache'
The only ones who come daily are the couples! Most of the people who end up failing too come daily to dillydally with their friends!'
Avon then proceeded into the building and knocked on the door of the principal's office.
" No matter what I won't back down."
said Avon to himself in a low voice.
"Come in" he heard the principal say. Avon entered and faced the principal, who was staring daggers at him. The principal was a tall man and very fat, giving the vibe of a giant. Avon's heart rate shot up. " Do you know why you were called here?" the principal questioned. "yes" Avon replied.
"What would you say in your defense?" asked the principal and Avon frowned.
"Sir, even though my attendance is low my grades are not... I beleive everyone has their own way to study and attendance being mandatory is not all logical...."
The principal replied sternly,
"It is necessitated by the education department!"
"But sir until last year it was 75% and some colleges don't check attendance for students above certain grades too...can't out college do the same?"
The principal didn't like this,
"Then go and study there! Here you will follow my rules, if you follow what I say you will definitely succeed!"
"But sir I believe I have my own way of studying
...just coming and attending daily is what many people who have failed in subjects do too... attendance isn't necessarily an indicator for knowledge.."
Avon spoke calmly so as to not speak with a disrespectful tone.
To which the principal replied angrily " How dare you question my methods? This is my university and you will do what I say!"
'Just because you failed to do anything significant in your life and now have an ego problem...thinking this college is your personal property just cause you got some authority...
This not a private company you idiot! Ever since you became the principal the university students have seen only seen their grades fall lower and lower....In three months you ruined everything....how did this idiot become the principal? I wish he just disappears from here.'
Just as Avon thought so, the building started to tremble very violently. Rumbling sounds could be heard. Before he could understand anything Avon immediately lost his balance and as he was falling he saw the bookshelf behind the principal fall right on him and being unable to bear its weight he fell on his decorated desk. This happened in a instant. In that instant Avon fall backwards and heard a *crunch* and a *splat* sound. He immediately guessed what happened but to confirm looked towards his principal whose head had been crushed between the bookshelf and his office desk.
Avon began to panic, this was the first time he saw someone die. He immediately thought of running outside but couldn't find any stable footing due the violent tremors. He then slowly crawled towards the door and went outside the office. He saw everyone panicking and trying to find cover while struggling to stand like him.
Suddenly a question spawned in his mind, a question that was not his, as though someone spoke to his mind directly. 'Which is greater? Nature or Man?' Avon was surprised because this thought was not his. He still instinctively thought of the answer. 'Nature' He answered in his mind.
The next moment the tremors grew much more violent and the building started falling apart. He quickly took cover at the door frame.Avon was sure he'd die now and had no time to react as well, so he closed his eyes and covered his head. He tried his best to maintain his balance. He could hear everyone's screams the cracking walls. He was braced for impact but to his surprise nothing hit him.
'I will survive, I won't die, no matter what,survive' Avon thought to himself.
The tremors stopped suddenly and Avon calmed down a bit. He had no injuries whatsoever, it was as if everything collapsed with keeping his safety in mind...it felt unnatural to him.
He looked around. Dust was rising, blood was flowing and the air smelled like a mixture of dust and blood. He could see many dead bodies and remains around him. Everything was in ruins. He then closed his eyes trying process what just happened. Looking at the damage, probably people he knew at the college were dead too. He tried to calm himself and thought
'This is very weird. First of all this isn't an earthquake prone zone....how could such strong tremors reach here?'
Just as he was collecting his thoughts a female voice was heard
" The ones who have survived. You have been saved by your planet. The planet has chosen you as its true residents. Congratulations, your planet has awoken!"
