"Look out!" came the warning, but it was too late. The large beam of dark energy shot out from the abyss, puncturing the woman levitating mid-air, leaving a hole where her stomach should be.
"I'm sorry" she said, turning to face the man who had cried the warning, falling back to the ground as her lifeforce left her body.
"NOOOOOO!" He rushed over to her broken body. As he held her lifeless body, tears streaming down his face, he felt the weight of her sacrifice.
"Lord Jakara!" He heard a voice cry out behind him. He turned to see a small figure running towards him. "Sire, the children are safe and have been placed in their capsules, we need to go NOW!" he exclaimed with an anxious look on his face.
"No" He replied, "I'm staying here"
"But sire-!"
"No buts" He interjected, "However, I have a final request of you old friend"
"Anything sire" He replied eagerly
"PROTECT THE CHILDREN!"
