Chapter 1 - 1 Volley

Shoya means Sky

Shoyo means Sunshine

Natsu means Summer

... honestly you can ignore the first half of this chapter....

In the late summer in Miyagi prefecture, while the cicada chirps loudly with the wind, as it breezes its gentle blow, a boy stands in front of the TV monitor with great intensity, not letting himself look away and lose focus. In his hand was a plush toy truck which he was holding tightly.

He stared intently into the screen almost as if his eyes were glued to it. The screen shows an ongoing volleyball match with a hot-blooded rally that almost seems unending. As the match continues, the rally gets longer, the boy's grip tightens around the plushie, he was griping it so tightly it wouldn't be a surprise if it tore. Even as the rally ended, the boy was still tensed for he didn't know who to cheer for, this was the first time he had ever watched a volleyball game not to mention, a match this thrilling, giving him such a vehement feeling.

He was still in awe of what he was seeing.

....

The boy was no taller than 3'6' ft tall, and he was smaller than the average six-year-old in Japan, and was often teased about it. He has orange locks and unwavering hazel eyes. He still has his baby fat and has a serious look on his face. His name is Shoya Hinata.

"Shoya, you shouldn't watch too closely from the TV." A taller man said as he picked up Shoya and sat him next to his brother, Shoyo who was playing with his plushie toys, Aliens and spaceship.

Shoyo has similar features to Shoya and Shoyo is almost identical, if not a small freckle atop of Shoya's eyelid, which isn't noticeable unless he closes his eyes as well as their haircut. The two of them are twins, with Shoyo coming out first then Shoya, which makes Shoyo the eldest but despite that, he treats Shoya as the oldest as he has no idea about their order of birth, only Shoya and their parents know.

"Sorry, dad", Shoya replied without looking at his father, still staring at the TV. His father looked at him and huffed. This young man ought to learn his lesson more seriously. He had to either nag it into him otherwise he'll turn into a delinquent in the future; he's a bit of a paranoid type.

"Listen Sho-" He started.\"Honey, I think the baby is coming out!!" came a shout from the kitchen.

Hearing his wife's pained cry, he immediately rushed into the kitchen with a panicked look and grabbed his phone to dial the ambulance.

Her water broke.

He gave his wife water and let her copy his breathing, to make the pain more tolerable. He was no nurse but he sure as hell would try to make his wife feel better.

His wife is breathing heavily as sweat drips from her black hair to her forehead and overall her whole body. Her gaze is unfocused but still holds determination, not letting herself pass out.

Seeing his Mom's pained state, Shoyo burst into tears and assumed for the worst, "Waaahhh!!,, Mama's gonna dieee!!" he bawled his eyes out putting his father in the spot, he had to calm both his wife and kid now. He had wondered where his kid got that 'assuming' trait.

Shoya who was next to him was mortified, his eyes were tear-filled like a dam that was about to burst, but he held it in and thought about his mom's remark, 'Right! my baby sister is coming!' he glared at the misleading Shoyo and growled "You stupid yonyon!! mom's not gonna die!!!" he hit him in the head and added, "idiot!!".

Feeling the pain in his head, Shoyo bawled even more and hit Shoya back."Stupid Yan Yan, why'dyu hii't mee!" and the two of them went into a brawl.

Their father's soul shrank seeing the chaos, and he decided needed help, so he called one of his wife's friend who was also their neighbor to look after the twin while he took his wife into the hospital. He also called his mother-in-law just in case things got awry. His wife's friend is a single mom so he doesn't worry much about her not taking care of his twins while he is gone, he is much more worried about the chaotic kids she would have to deal with and hopes that she can last till they get back.

and just like that Hinata Natsu was born.

7 years later.

Hinata Shoya, 13 years old, 4'10.

In the middle of the woods behind the school where there was an abandoned parking lot, at least wide enough for Shoya to make it into a makeshift court, Shoya was practicing the basics of volleyball.

It was already mid October so it was freezing cold, As his mother could not convince him off of his training, he was currently covered with flexible thermal underwear under his training clothes.

As if reminiscing about the day Natsu was born, when he saw that match, a dream bloomed its way to his heart. He was gonna be a Volleyball player.

Right now he was practicing things that he could do alone, such as serves and dive, as he doesn't have any training partner, He had set himself a training regime and diet that could help him grow even just a tiny bit taller as both him and Shoyo are on the shorter side. He would run in the morning, eat bananas, and drink those hateful milk, he just couldn't bring himself to like milk— for him it was disgusting. Don't get him wrong though, he likes chocolate milk, strawberry milk, banana milk, and anything that has actual flavor but plain milk. Yuck.

After breakfast, he would try to practice his receives but he could only do much alone. He would gleefully eat his diet meal which he specifically asked for his mom's help and in the afternoon he would practice his Serves, sets, and dive.

He had thought of practicing jump serve but it was a little too taxing for his small build so he had been practicing float and jump float serves. As for setting, he was having a bit trouble as he doesn't have a spiker so he doesn't know how high his sets could really go.

He had thought about going on some training camps or clubs in his elementary but there wasn't such thing, at least not in this town. He had asked his parents to go to the next town over but given how busy his parents are they didn't have the time to pick him up back and fort to the next town over, and it's not like he could go on his own, he's barely a teen. (and is very smol) kccnccn

Shoya set up his makeshift court with a net he found near the beach and made it into avvv proper volleyball net. He doesn't have much confidence about his crafting skills but he still ended up with a decent prop. He had also asked for help from his dad for making it, to make it more symmetrical.

Every day when he practiced, he would always measure how high the net was so he could perform properly and observe improvements better, he didn't wanna risk it as one day, he would play in a court where he had teammates and a team he would be up against, he wanted to show them a perfect play if not, beyond perfect— at least that was his dream.

Shoya stood a few steps away from the back line which he drew with leftover paint, as he dribbled the ball. He threw the ball high enough so he could relax a bit and then he jumped almost as high as his size, an impressive feat considering his age and height.

He swung his left hand softly but hard enough to give direction for the ball, his fingers made contact to it and as if instinctual, he bent his wrist a little bit, to give it a spin as it bypassed the net and landed a foot near the back line inside the back zone.

"Oh come on, man."

Shoya sighed in disappointment since he had planned to let the ball touch the edge of the back line.

He had been repeatedly failing but that did not stop him from improving bit by bit. Compared to the first time he had touched the ball and to now were leaps behind, back then he couldn't even make it to the other side but now, the only trouble he's got is control, and maybe, an opponent to test if he's really improving in terms of a real match.

He picked up the ball and started over again. This time, it did hit the edge of the back line but it was out.

Guh..!

".....Heeyy!!, Yan Yan!!!" came a shout from a distance. Shoya turned to where the voice was coming from, and he sighed; it was his twin brother.

Shoyo arrived in front of him and rested for a bit, trying to catch his breath.

"What is it?" Shoya calmly asked.

"Let's go play by the river!!" Shoya breathed out. "Koji and the others are playing soccer!" he shouted rather enthusiastically.

Shoya thought about it for a bit and suggested, "I'll come with if Yon Yon becomes my practice buddy for a whole month!" Shoya had tried to bring Shoyo to play volleyball at some point but Shoyo is the least bit interested in playing alone in the woods unlike his brother; though he has never really tried volleyball.

"What?! that's too long!" Shoyo commented that was a tad too long for one game. Shoya paused for a bit and replied, "For five games of soccer" His face contained all kinds of seriousness, it almost looked silly.

Shoyo was in all honestly shock since Shoya was the hardest to please than anybody he knew, but despite that, Shoya was very talented when it came to sports. Just a few plays from him and his team would have already won, He was a weapon of destruction, someone who was needed for Shoyo's team since he freaking love to win and brag about his brother.

"for six games, then you have yourself a deal" Shoyo gulped. A month is a long time and he knows how much of a training maniac his brother is, they'll probably train from morning to afternoon.

"Yon yon," Shoya glared at his brother which almost made Shoyo hiccup. Shoya's expression slowly turned into a bright smile "Deal!"

"huh?"

"come on, let's go!" Shoya uttered as he run to the direction of the river.

This was not the first time Shoyo had been duped by his brother, yet he didn't even realize it.

Shoyo looked at the departing back of his brother and shuddered— he swore he saw his bright smile to be almost demonic, so he readied his heart for the worst.

--------

Haikyuu is becoming a 'less talked about anime' which is pretty sad, so am just gonna add a new character to the mix just to satisfy my boredom cuz I know not many would try to read this.

I'm writing this for the fun of it.
