Chapter 1 - Chapter one

My feet move quickly, wanting to be back at camp before the sun rises. I needed answers, even though I knew it would impact my emotional health. Taking an apple from the tree is no joke; it's heavy on one's mind to know the future. The tree is even known to drive people crazy and to their deaths.

I have just taken over the pack from my grandfather a month ago. It was a transition, to say the least. I have been training to lead since I was a young child. Chetan and Dev were under my grandfather's order for a short time. They all have an enormous respect for him, I have tough shoes to follow. Next, Kiara finally joins the pack; she is Chetan's girlfriend.

I know from the first moment I saw Zare, she was the first clue the tree was speaking about. The girl will either save the pack or destroy the pack.

I couldn't turn her away when I found her; my heart wouldn't allow me to do so. Although she was being nasty, her eyes showed the most kindness, and I was drawn to her independence.

I hear Dev's laughter entering the camp, his goofy childish laugh. Dev and I have known each other forever. He is younger than I and a great deal more immature. But he is an important pack member.

Zare is sitting with Kiara. They are twins, but very different. Kiara listens to every order, always obeying me. She is a follower and likes my approval.

Zare, on the other hand, is wild at heart. She wants to run and be with nature. She is more of a wolf than a girl. I know she'll never obey me as Alpha. She doesn't want to be told what to do. She would rather I left her in the woods to die.

1 week earlier.

The sky was charcoal black, and the big orange moon hung in the sky. I was out checking for zombies, who was our responsibility to destroy. These zombies do weigh on my heart; they were once people. All dolled up and laid to rest, only to weaken and be ripped apart. I hated doing it, destroying one's body doesn't seem fair.

I hear whimpers of pain, and I look around searching for the crying. I know it's a girl. I feel protective of her as soon as I hear her cry. Then my eyes meet hers, and I instantly fall in love. Having found my mate, who passed away, I know she's not my mate.

"It's alright, you're fine." I step towards her slowly. Her beautiful brown eyes watched my every move. She seemed so scared, and it broke my soul.

"You're Kiara's sister?"

She nods.

I smile. Even though they were twins, I can see the difference between them. Kiara wears her hair shorter and has a different, shy smile. She always kinda half-smiles at you. Her shyness is always showing on her red cheeks.

This girl has a deviant grin. She looks almost evil, like she is planning something ill.

"I am Ajay." I reach my hand toward her.

She slaps it away. I watch as she tries to stand on her leg. A moan of pain escapes her lips.

"Stay away from me," she hiss. I see the anger on her face. She clearly feels some type of way about me.

"What's your problem?" I try to hide how offended I was.

She grabbed a nearby tree, and I watched her steady herself from falling over. I know her ankle or foot was badly hurt.

I frown. I just want to help her, if only she would let me.
