Chapter 7 - Gold-Digging Bandits (1)

I arrived at the lady's home and knocked on the gate, after a while, she came and opened the gate for me. Seeing me, she was quite taken aback, like she wasn't expecting to see me soon or alive.

"Y-you are alive?" She asked, still in shock.

"Of course, Mam, or do you wish me death?" I retorted calmly while rolling my mental eyes.

"No, not at all," the lady replied, waving her hands as she spoke. "The shadow wolves, how about them?" She asked.

"All gone!" I replied with a proud look on my face.

The lady upon hearing what I said began to cry, "thank you so much kid, I initially doubted you, but now I am grateful."

"Don't you want to check it out before thanking me?" I asked purposely.

"Ah! I don't have to check it out. I believe that you have done your job well besides, look how exhausted you look, coupled with the wounds on your body, I do not think you will be lying about it," she replied as she wiped away the tears in her eyes.

I was somewhat surprised to hear her say that she trusts me, if it were to be another person, they would never believe it until they see.

"Here, this is your pay," the lady said as she took out a small pouch from her pockets and handed it over to me. "it's a hundred gold coins, it's too little but I hope you manage it. I'll get going now."

I silently watched as the woman closed her gate and the moment she left, I jumped in the air.

"Hundred gold coins? Gotten just in a day?" I almost screamed at the top of my voice.

I never believed that a day would come when I will have to hold such an amount of money. "If it's like this, I wouldn't mind becoming a monster hunter, hunting and killing monsters for money!" I mumbled with a grin on my face.

After counting the gold coins over and over again, I shoved them right inside my pocket, I seriously didn't want anything to happen to it or else I won't be able to forgive the heavens. I then took out my phone and checked the time, it was half-past two midnight. I was exhausted and I couldn't go back to my house and as such, I needed to find a place to spend the night.

I strolled to the main road and luckily, I found a cab which I entered. "Sir, take me to the nearest inn," I said to the man as I got into his cab.

"Alright kid," the man replied and drove off.

During the ride, I noticed that the man kept stealing glances at me through the front mirror, I didn't know why but I found it to be very odd. Nevertheless, I didn't say a word and pretended like I didn't know anything.

Soon, the car came to a halt in front of an inn. I came down from the car and then paid the driver, he briefly glanced at me before driving off. I stared at the car as it disappeared from my sight, perhaps, I was just being overly conscious due to the money I'm holding.

I shrugged my shoulders and went into the inn. I saw a young lady by the counter and so I walked up to her.

"Hello, can I get an inexpensive room for the night?" I asked.

She looked up from her book and glanced at me for a while before replying. "You don't look like you are from this town, do you?"

I was a bit reluctant to answer her because I didn't know what being or not being from this town got to do with the cheap room I requested for.

"I am not from this town, why do you ask?" I asked in return.

"Nothing, you just don't look like a townie," the lady replied. Her reply made me want to roll my mental eyes at her.

"Can you now give me the room?" I tiredly asked.

She then chuckled and brought a single key from her drawer and then handed it to me, "Here is the key, a cheap room in this town is just ten silver coins."

"Ten silver coins? For just a night?" I asked in shock. Back in my local street, a cheap room is five silver coins. Oh, I guess there will be a lot of differences between the two inns.

"Of course! What do you expect?" She asked back with her brows raised.

I brought out the ten silver coins and handed them to her which she collected and then led me to my room. I opened the door and went inside, I was hoping to see a not-so-good room but then I was completely taken aback by how nice-looking the place was. It was spacious enough with a nice bed by the corner of the room and also a bathroom by the side.

After taking my bath, I wore back the pants I was wearing, the night was hot so I didn't want to wear a shirt. After settling down, I decided to check my stats.

"System, add ten points to agility and ten to stamina then show me my stats!" I requested as I sat down on the bed.
