"Bae, I'm so sorry… Are you sure you want to go back to Mom?" Aurora nodded through her tears. Jake stepped forward, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear. "No," he said softly, firmly. "I'm not gonna let that happen."
"WHAT?!"
"Yes," he repeated. "Your little vacation hasn't ended yet." Tears streamed down her cheeks again. Jake pulled her into his arms tightly.
"Enough of the tears already," he whispered against her hair. "It breaks my heart when I see you cry… I'm sorry, okay? Truly."
They stood there in silence, wrapped in each other's warmth before Jake gently pulled her by the hand. "Let's go have breakfast."
Aurora followed him quietly to the dining room. Jake, ever the gentleman, pulled her chair out for her. She sat without a word. He grabbed the salad bowl and began loading her plate with vegetables.
She wrinkled her nose. "I don't want that."
"Hey, fix your face," Jake teased. "You've got to eat this. It's good for your health. Don't expect me to serve you mac and cheese every morning."
She pouted. "I said I don't want it."
"Aurora, don't be like that. Please, just eat. Come on… open up." She sighed. "Okay, fine. I will. Pass me the fork." Jake smiled and handed it over. "Here you go."
"Jake?" she called gently. Hmmm?"
"Who's been causing you problems at work?"
He paused mid-bite, his jaw tightening. "He's nobody," he said, brushing it off. "His name is Mark Wilson. Owns the largest shipping company in the world. Real arrogant guy." Second Richest Man in the whole world.
"Who's the richest then?" Aurora asked curiously.Mr. William Riverson," Jake muttered, his tone unreadable. "Oooh. So what rank are you, Jake?"
"I'm number three, bae. Placed third this year. "Why not number one?" Jake chuckled dryly. "No idea. Didn't incur any losses or anything. But I honestly don't pay attention to that stuff anymore."
"That's good to know," she said. Then her eyes darkened slightly. "What about Mr. Riverson? I heard he lost his only daughter."
Jake nodded solemnly. "Yeah. It's really sad."
A quiet moment passed between them. "Are you going to the office today?" she asked.
Jake glanced at the clock. "Nah, it's already noon. I'll work from home. Plus… I want to spend some time with you." He winked, and her cheeks flushed pink.
Aurora smiled. "I'll call Sadash over. She can spend the day with us, right? "Of course. Why not?" Just then, his phone buzzed. "Excuse me, I need to take this call."
He walked away. "Hey, Sophie. I'm working from home today. Bring over the documents I need. Also, send the driver to pick up my mom she'll be visiting." Meanwhile, Aurora wandered around the house aimlessly until she noticed the butler, Gaius, opening the door for someone.
A woman.
She had striking reddish-brown hair, seductive grey eyes, and the kind of perfect lips that looked sculpted in a lab. Her body was hugged by a skin-tight office outfit that screamed "I'm here to snatch your man."
Aurora blinked, taking it all in.
The woman was already seated but immediately stood up when she saw Aurora.
Good morning, ma'am," she said politely.
Aurora gave her a brief nod. "You are?"
"I'm Sophie Huxley. Mr. Jake's secretary."
Ooohh… you're her. Aurora didn't flinch. "I see. I'll have one of the maids get him."
She turned sweetly to Gaius. "Please, get this kind Miss a glass of juice."
Then she turned back to Sophie, wearing the fakest, sugar-coated smile she could muster. "Make yourself comfortable." As soon as she walked off, Aurora rolled her eyes hard enough to see her own brain. "So that's the famous Sophie. Hmm, she's not even all that."
Just then, the doorbell rang again. "I'll get it!" she shouted, almost skipping to the door.
Her eyes lit up. "Sadash!" she cried, hugging her tightly. "I missed you so much!"
"Same here," Sadash laughed. "Now tell me everything."They walked inside, ready to spill tea and plot world domination.
