My eyes widened in disbelief. "What the hell do you think you're doing? She turned with zero guilt, rolling her eyes. "What does it look like? I'm washing the clothes."
I stepped closer. "You're really brave, aren't you? How dare you speak to me like that?"
To hell with your nonsense," she scoffed. "You're not my boss. And even if you report me, sir Jake can't fire me."
She ran her fingers through her hair, flashing a flirty smile. Listen, ma'am," she spat the word mockingly. "You could never make Jake feel what I make him feel. You're nothing but a burden. He only takes care of you because of your condition."
I stiffened. My fingers curled into fists as I bit my cheek to keep the tears at bay.You don't have the right to talk about my illness—"
She cut me off. "Don't you dare point your finger at me! I'm not one of those maids you boss around. You're like a curse in Jake's life! He placed third this year because of you!"
She stepped closer, voice dripping with venom. "He spends all his money on your therapy and drugs. He only acts sweet because your daddy paid his tuition. He owes you. But the truth? He loves me."
Then she rolled her eyes and walked out like she hadn't just shattered me. I stood frozen, my chest heaving. A thousand emotions surged through me but one was stronger than all: Rage.
Tears welled up, but I didn't let them fall.
I hate you, Jake," I whispered. "How could you?" Then I screamed, "GAIUS!!" My voice echoed through the house. "Yes ma'am?" he appeared, startled. I want to see the head maid. Now."
***Maids' Quarters***
Melissa, I saw what you did," Alice said sharply. "That was disrespectful. If Madam tells sir, you're gone for good." Melissa rolled her eyes. "I love him. What's wrong with fighting for what's mine? Besides, he won't fire me."
Alice frowned. "You're trying to break them up for your own selfish reasons." Melissa's expression darkened. "That woman? She's disgusting. The other day she denied sir after seducing him. I felt sick watching them. At least go somewhere private!"
"Why would they?" Alice defended. "They're in love." To heck with that love," Melissa spat. "I'll destroy it. She'll leave this house one way or another. I've poisoned her mind enough already."
She grinned wickedly."Then he'll be mine."
