Chapter 30 - Too Comfortable, Too Close

I was panting hard, nearly out of breath, my chest rising and falling as I leaned on the wall for support. That man had truly made me run laps around the house over almond milk. A maid rushed to me with a glass of water. I grabbed it like my life depended on it and gulped it down in one go.

I could still feel the giggles bubbling inside me. I hadn't laughed that hard in so long. My heart was full—full of joy, love, and a strange kind of peace. Being surrounded by the people you love the most in the world… what more could a girl ask for?

"Sadash, it's already evening. Please, just stay the night," I pleaded, still slightly breathless. She smiled warmly. "Okay dear, I'll leave first thing tomorrow."

"Come on then, let's have dinner!" I chirped, linking arms with her. As we stepped into the dining room, the smell hit me first. "Wow, Sadash! This smells heavenly… is that roasted chicken?" I clapped my hands like a child on Christmas morning. "I'm going to enjoy this."

"Not so fast, Aurora. Vegetables first," Jake said, raising a brow. "Jakeee…" I whined, lips pouted. "Yeah, have them first," he echoed, acting all smug.

"Sadashhhh!" I turned to her for support, but she just smiled. Aurora, you know how much vegetables are good for you," she said sweetly.

"Really , Sadash?" I mumbled. "I thought you were on my side!"When it comes to stuff like this, I'm always on Jake's side," she teased.

Like mother, like son," I muttered, stabbing my salad with my fork. "Hmph."

Dinner was delicious beyond heavenly. I made sure Sadash got to her room safely before retreating into mine. Jake was already there, changed into his comfy pajamas, flipping through his files with those reading glasses I secretly loved. He looked… delicious. But I walked past him like I didn't notice, entering the bathroom. I took a long, warm bath, soothing my muscles from the almond milk marathon earlier.

I came out wearing one of his oversized shirts again. Not because I liked wearing them or anything… but because they were just so comfy. Jake baby, aren't you tired?" I asked, sitting cross-legged on the bed and tying my hair up with his hairband.

"I am. Don't worry bae, I'll join you in a second," he said, eyes glued to his paperwork. I yawned and laid down. Sleep tugged at my lashes until I felt a warm arm curl around my waist. It was Jake. I smiled in my sleep and snuggled closer. We cuddled like we had no worries in the world.

The next morning, I woke up early. Jake was already half-dressed for work, standing by the mirror fixing his tie. I dragged myself into the bathroom, took a brisk cold shower, and dressed in sweatpants and a hoodie still cold from the water. I kept my makeup light and tied my hair in a high ponytail.

Downstairs, the table was already set. Sadash and Jake were seated, chatting. I pecked Sadash on the cheek and gave Jake a quick kiss on the lips.

"Good morning, sweetheart."

"Morning, babe," he replied, smiling.

It was my favorite breakfast chutney and almond milk. I dug in happily.

"Bae, I'll drop Mom at your parents' place before I head to the office," Jake said.

"Okay," I nodded. "You can get yourself busy while I'm gone," he added with a playful smile.

"So… can I do anything?"

"Yes." Anything?" "Yes."

I narrowed my eyes. "Anything?"

Jake laughed. "Yes. But please… don't do anything childish." I held up my hand in mock sincerity. "I promise I won't." Bye, sweetheart," he said, kissing my forehead.

"Bye, Sadash," I hugged her tightly. "Take care. "You too, Aurora." Once they left, the silence set in. I sighed and called Angel, hoping to hang out. But she was in Miami. Ugh. So much for girl time.

I got bored quickly and decided to chat with the maids. Maybe I'd make cookies or clean out the wardrobe…

But as I walked into the laundry room, the scene before me stopped me in my tracks.

One of the maids yes, one of my maids was clutching Jake's shirt to her chest… eyes closed… sniffing it like a perfume sample.

"What… do you think… you're doing?" I thundered.

She jumped, startled, and the shirt slipped from her fingers.I stormed toward her. "You were sniffing my Fiancée's shirt?! Are you out of your mind?!"
