The driver remained frozen in place, watching her through the glass until her figure completely disappeared from his sight.
Meanwhile, Qiao Meixia stood outside the luxurious, towering high-rise apartment complex. Carrying her damaged laptop securely in her arms, she walked toward the grand entrance with calm, measured steps. However, just as she was about to cross the threshold into the pristine lobby, two uniformed security guards stepped forward and blocked her path.
"Miss, are you here to visit someone residing in this apartment complex?" One of the security guards asked, keeping his tone relatively respectful. "If so, you will need to register your name in our logbook first. We will then have to contact the resident directly to confirm your visit before allowing you inside."
Before Qiao Meixia could even open her mouth to respond, the second security guard looked her up and down, his eyes filled with obvious suspicion and deep disdain as he noted her lack of luxury clothing.
"Boss, do not waste your breath or your time on her." The second guard said dismissively, waving his hand. "I know exactly what type of girl she is."
His critical gaze swept over Qiao Meixia's simple appearance once again.
"She is probably just trying to sneak into the building under false pretences so she can try to seduce one of the wealthy, elite tenants living upstairs." The second security guard scoffed in disdain tone.
The first security guard immediately frowned upon hearing his colleague's uncalled-for and unprofessional words.
"Wenhan, you cannot speak so rudely to people." The first security guard reprimanded sternly, shooting him a warning glare.
However, the guard named Wenhan merely shrugged his shoulders casually, acting as though he had done absolutely nothing wrong.
"Miss, please give me the specific unit number you wish to visit. I will contact the owner right away and ask about your arrival." The first security guard stated politely, trying to make up for his partner's terrible behaviour.
Qiao Meixia pulled out her phone to check the unit number since she did not remember it off the top of her head. It was, after all, her very first time coming to this exclusive area after purchasing the property. Before she had originally set foot in the chaotic Jiang family residence, she had wisely arranged for someone to discreetly send the bulk of her personal belongings ahead to this apartment.
It had simply been a necessary precaution on her part, a backup plan in case things did not work out smoothly at the Jiang family home. And as it turned out, her instincts had been entirely right. Buying a private property in this city ahead of time had undoubtedly been the correct decision.
"Unit 008." Qiao Meixia stated evenly.
Hearing that specific number, both of the security guards instantly stiffened and turned to stare blankly at Qiao Meixia. It was one of only two elite penthouses in the entire high-rise complex, each exceptionally equipped with its own private elevator that provided direct, secure access to the residence. As for the astronomical price of the property, there was no need to even mention it. It was a sum most people could never dream of earning in a lifetime.
Then, breaking the sudden silence, the second security guard burst out into a mocking laugh. "Wow, you really know how to pick a random number out of thin air, don't you?"
The first security guard frowned deeply and aggressively elbowed his arrogant partner to shut him up before turning back to face Qiao Meixia.
"Miss, please wait for just a brief moment. I will contact the registered owner of the unit and ask him directly." The first security guard said, maintaining his polite demeanour despite his growing scepticism.
Qiao Meixia nodded softly.
The security guard immediately went over to the console and dialled the official phone number registered under the owner of Unit 008. Not long afterwards, the loud buzz of a ringtone began echoing through the quiet lobby, and it was coming directly from Qiao Meixia's hand.
