"Hello." Qiao Meixia answered the call calmly, holding the phone firmly to her ear.
The two security guards stared at her, their jaws nearly dropping to the floor as they stood there completely dumbfounded. They had never expected, even in their wildest dreams, that the young, plainly dressed woman standing right in front of them was actually the multi-millionaire owner of that incredibly exclusive penthouse unit.
"So, can I enter my building now?" Qiao Meixia asked, lowering her phone and looking at them with a completely calm and unbothered expression.
"Yes... Yes... Of course! Please go right ahead, Miss!" The first security guard said hurriedly, his posture lowering slightly in a polite bow as his attitude became even more profoundly respectful than before.
Beside him, the second security guard's face turned a bright, burning shade of red with intense embarrassment and regret.
Qiao Meixia was just about to walk away and head toward the private elevators when she suddenly heard the second security guard speak up again, his voice tight, defensive, and strained.
"If you are actually a resident here, you should have just shown us your access card from the very start. There was really no need for you to stay quiet just to embarrass us like this." The second security guard voiced his opinion, desperately trying to shift the blame away from his own bad behaviour and onto her.
Qiao Meixia stopped walking. She slowly turned around and looked directly into his eyes, her gaze piercing right through his defensive facade.
"Did you even give me a single chance to say anything?" Qiao Meixia asked, her voice completely calm but surprisingly sharp. "The moment I walked up to the entrance, you looked me up and down and judged my entire worth before I could even open my mouth to speak."
After saying that, and without wasting another single second waiting for a pathetic response, Qiao Meixia turned back around and walked away with her back straight, leaving the rude security guard standing there frozen in absolute public humiliation.
"I told you already. You seriously need to watch your mouth. You cannot just judge people's lives based solely on what they happen to be wearing." The first security guard sighed heavily, shaking his head in deep disappointment at his partner.
The second security guard fell completely silent, utterly unable to find a single word to defend his actions.
Meanwhile, Qiao Meixia walked gracefully into the grand lobby of the building. She looked around the massive, pristine space briefly, trying to figure out exactly how to get to her specific unit. After a moment of searching, she spotted someone standing nearby and approached him directly.
"Excuse me." Qiao Meixia called out, her voice echoing slightly in the quiet lobby.
The man turned around and saw a young woman standing closely behind him. Looking at her plain clothes, he immediately assumed that she was just another girl trying to approach him to ask for his personal contact number. Clicking his tongue in annoyance, he frowned slightly at the perceived interruption.
"What do you want?" The man asked, his tone dripping with impatience.
"How do I get to this unit?" Qiao Meixia asked flatly, ignoring his hostile attitude.
She easily noticed his arrogant reaction, but she did not care much about it in the slightest. She simply wanted clear directions so she could get this trivial task over with and head upstairs to rest.
The man glanced down at the unit number displayed on her phone screen, and his eyes immediately widened as he recognised it instantly. It was the elite penthouse. So, this girl was not trying to flirt or get his contact number after all. Realizing his mistake, he suddenly felt incredibly foolish and slightly embarrassed by his own narcissistic assumption.
