The man explained, adjusting his tone to become much more helpful and polite. "You should probably call the owner down to come get you, since you absolutely cannot use the elevator without possessing the high-security key card. Otherwise, the elevator simply will not move at all."
The man naturally assumed that Qiao Meixia was merely a visitor or perhaps a delivery person. In his mind, there was absolutely no way a girl dressed so simply and plainly would already have direct access to the penthouse's highly restricted key card.
However, he was completely stunned when he saw her calmly reach into her bag, pull out a sleek, premium key card, and walk directly toward the private elevator terminal without a single hint of hesitation.
"Thank you." Qiao Meixia said, turning around to politely thank the man for his clear explanation before stepping inside the spacious lift.
The man stood there completely frozen in place, staring blankly at Qiao Meixia until the heavy elevator doors slowly slid shut, hiding her completely from his view.
"What on earth am I doing?" The man muttered to himself, running a hand through his hair in utter disbelief.
He was also one of the wealthy residents living in this luxurious building, although he lived in one of the regular luxury apartments on the lower floors rather than the multi-million-dollar penthouse units situated at the very top.
He had originally chosen to purchase a home in this particular building because of its legendary, state-of-the-art security system. The management was widely known for being extremely strict when dealing with outsiders. Visitors were never allowed into the secure residential areas without explicit, verified permission from a resident, and the elite security staff thoroughly checked every single detail before granting anyone entry.
Yet, that plain-looking girl had just bypassed everything as though she owned the entire place.
Upstairs, the elevator dinged, and Qiao Meixia finally arrived on the exclusive penthouse floor. She stepped out of the private lift and calmly looked around her new surroundings.
There were only two doors present on the entire floor. One led directly to the the emergency exit staircase, while the other had to be the grand entrance to her private apartment.
She approached the door and tapped her premium key card against the sleek access panel mounted beside the frame. A soft, electronic click sounded a second later, indicating that the heavy lock had been successfully released.
Qiao Meixia pushed open the door and stepped inside. The interior of the penthouse followed a stunning modern minimalist design, heavily dominated by dark black tones, premium materials, and clean, sharp lines. She set her bag down on the entryway table and headed straight for the master bathroom to take a long, hot shower.
Fifteen minutes later, she emerged from the bathroom feeling completely refreshed and relaxed.
Opening the expansive walk-in closet, she found it fully stocked and filled with rows of clothes that perfectly matched her exact preferences and understated style. She immediately picked out a comfortable outfit and changed into it.
After getting properly dressed, she walked over to the living room and sat down on the plush sofa. She needed to inspect her damaged laptop now. More specifically, she needed to recover whatever critical data could still be salvaged from its hardware.
She carefully opened the broken laptop on the coffee table and began dismantling it piece by piece with practised efficiency. The physical laptop itself was completely beyond saving and could no longer be powered on or used because of the extensive structural damage it had sustained. However, the internal storage drives and core system data were still perfectly intact.
After carefully removing the vital components, she stored them away in a secure, dust-free case. She would simply need to find another high-performance laptop or a PC later on and reinstall her private system onto the new device.
