Chapter 36 - Chapter 36: Reprimand Other Servants

Then again, it was not as though she cared much about such superficial things as luxury and comfort in the first place.

"Thank you." Qiao Meixia said calmly, her expression unreadable.

After Qiao Meixia entered the room and settled in, Butler Jun closed the door quietly behind her before walking back with a stern expression toward the group of servants he had caught gossiping earlier. Seeing Butler Jun approaching them, one of the gossipy servants immediately greeted him, eagerly stepping forward to ask about Qiao Meixia's downfall.

"Butler Jun, good evening. Did that girl actually get chased out of the main residence by Master and Mistress?" The servant asked excitedly, her eyes shining as she clearly hoped to extract some scandalous household gossip.

"A good, disciplined servant would not talk about their masters behind their backs like that." Butler Jun stated sharply, his tone filled with heavy disapproval.

The servants who had been eagerly hoping to hear something juicy immediately swallowed their words, their expressions changing as they looked incredibly uncomfortable under his stern gaze.

Butler Jun continued to speak sternly, lecturing them thoroughly. "Furthermore, Ms Qiao has definitely not been chased out by the Master and Mistress. The Second Young Master accidentally destroyed Ms Qiao's room tonight. Since there was no other suitable room fully prepared on such short notice, I brought Ms Qiao here to stay for tonight only."

The gathered servants remained completely silent, hanging their heads as they listened intently to Butler Jun's strict explanation.

"If I ever hear anyone mocking or whispering about Ms Qiao again, you may pack up your luggage and leave the Jiang family estate immediately. Do you all understand me?" Butler Jun warned them, his voice freezing cold.

"Yes, Butler Jun." Everyone answered quickly in unison, lowering their heads in fear of losing their jobs.

...

Qiao Meixia woke up early the very next morning just as the sun was rising. Since she did not have any clean, spare clothes to change into from the night before, she simply washed her face, tidied her hair, and left the quiet room. Carrying her damaged laptop securely with her, she walked outside into the crisp morning air. On her way out of the courtyard, she happened to run right into Butler Jun, who was already up and supervising the morning routines.

"Ms Qiao, where are you going so early?" Butler Jun asked in genuine surprise, caught off guard after seeing her awake and moving at such an hour.

"I am going to get some clothes." Qiao Meixia replied simply, offering no further explanation.

Without waiting for any further questions, protests, or responses from the startled Butler Jun, Qiao Meixia walked right past him with purposeful strides.

Butler Jun stood frozen there in a daze for a brief moment, completely bewildered by her independent attitude. By the time he finally managed to regain his senses and turn around, Qiao Meixia had already moved briskly down the path and disappeared from his immediate sight. Startled, he numbers-wise hurried and ran outside toward the main gates in an urgent attempt to catch up with her. However, by the time he breached the gates, all he managed to see was Qiao Meixia smoothly getting into a waiting car before it quickly accelerated and drove away into the far distance.

Butler Jun could only stand there helplessly at the edge of the sprawling estate, watching silently as the vehicle gradually disappeared from his view. There was absolutely nothing he could do about it now. Later on, when the rest of the household woke up, he would just have to report this bizarre matter directly to the Master and Mistress and let them handle it.

Meanwhile, Qiao Meixia sat quietly in the back passenger seat of the moving car, her calm gaze fixed on the passing scenery outside the window. To be completely honest with herself, she had not expected to secure a ride quite so quickly at this ungodly hour.
