Chapter 2 - The Nexus

After three months of this rigorous training Zavaiel felt comfortable being in this new world. He was now noticeably more muscular and fit than before. He was at least tier one in all weapon styles and magic save their exotic forms. He had also learned he had psionic abilities and chose to nurture them as well. He was also tier one in all professions and proficiencies save a few that required more advanced means. However, a few things kept bothering him.

One, that no one before the last year of school ever wanted to improve themselves. Two, once someone found a good lifestyle they stagnated and stayed there forever. Three that he had no care for the world around him, he had seen both men and beast die but it did not faze him. Finally, there was a constant feeling that he needed to go to something or someone, it rattled his head day after day. To get rid of this feeling he decided the only way was to follow it.

He set out early in the morning just as the sun had started to rise, this was so no one would see him. He had never interacted with anyone save seras, he hated how simple they were, not wanting more. He wasted no time on these people, they were wastes of life and opportunity. The farther he walked into the forest the darker it became, almost no light penetrated the dense canopy. One thing was odd though, there were no animals or monsters he encountered.

On the open fields the monsters there were innumerable, even on the roads monsters were ever present. Zavaiel found it hard to believe that there would be no such monsters here in this forest. This put him on edge as no monsters meant something greater inhabited this forest. After a few hours of walking Zavaiel wondered if he was walking in a circle, the forest couldn't be this big could it?

The feeling he had and disappeared, and he had no idea where he was going. It was strange though, he didn't know where he was going, but his instincts kept him moving. Almost as if he had been there before. Before long he stumbled into a clearing, here was an open field with the sun brightly shining. He squinted his eyes, something was not right. In the center of this field was a stone tower. The tower looked old but had no growths on it, it seemed to shine from the light striking it.

Looking up one would believe they were in a dream. There was no sun, only a dense canopy still, however under the canopy was an array of bright beautiful lights. It was as if the lights were dancing, like an aurora in the night sky. As he approached the large stone an alert appeared. System: secret quest started- The nexus. "The nexus?" he said to himself. He looked at the stone in awe, it had begun changing, runes now lined its surface. It had grown even larger to about the size of a house and it was now a dazzling display of color like the concert above.

Zavaiel just stared at the stone. The quest told him to touch the stone but he felt uneasy, everything in his body was telling him no. He knew the light show above was concentrated magic and that the stone was the physical form of magic. He felt the magic tug at him relentlessly, something wanted to get out. With no better options Zavaiel approached the stone. When he was three feet away a symbol appeared on the stone in front of him. "I guess I place my hand here".

Zavaiel placed his hand on the symbol, he felt a surge of energy flow into him. His whole body felt warm, like when the sun kisses your skin as it rises. Suddenly a pulse sent him flying back a few meters. Zavaiel landed with a loud thump, his vision was blurry, but he could tell there was a figure in front of him. He slowly stood up, stumbling as he did, and drew his sword. When he had regained himself Zavaiel was shocked at the sight in front of him.

The figure was himself. It looked exactly like him except it had a strange tattoo covering his whole body and his eyes were bloodshot red. The figure smiled at him and conjured a sword that was jet black. The system now told him to defeat the demon. "Demon!?" he said shocked by his new task. The demon let out a horrifying scream and charged him, closing the twenty-meter distance between them instantly. Zavaiel barely reacted to the demons' speed.

The demon forced him back and swung again. His hp had dropped down to 60. "40 points of damage from an attack I blocked!?" he exclaimed worriedly. The demon attacked him relentlessly, not even giving him time to breathe. His hp had dropped to 5 and he was sure he was going to die….. again. Just as the demon came to administer the final blow a message popped up from the system. System: Releasing inhibitor seals.

"Inhibitor seals?" Zavaiel said to himself as his vision darkened. Just as the demon was about to kill him he swung his sword and deflected the attack, which sent the demon stumbling back. Zavaiel now had similar tattoo across his body but instead of black they matched the ever-changing colors above him. The demon charged him again but this time Zavaiel knocked the sword out of the demons' hand and grabbed it by the neck.

The demon let another powerful scream until Zavaiel plunged his sword down its throat. The demons' body pulsated with its death. It soon faded into a black light and joined the other colors above. The tattoos on his body faded away and Zavaiel blacked out, barely seeing another figure as he fell.
