Chapter 4 - The Rogue (4)

Soon enough he was sprawled out on the floor with her sword pointed at his chest. Her bright eyes narrowed at him.

'Pathetic and a waste of such great spiritual energy' she thought to herself.

But she noticed his eyes kept shifting out to the crowd.

Who was he looking for?

Quickly scanning the crowd she saw a small group of men who looked slightly different compared to the rest of the crowd. Their obviously high-quality clothes stood out from the other thugs that were gathered around.

Suddenly a small light flashed in her bright eyes, and a mischievous thought crossed her mind that went unnoticed by the latter.

"I shall not kill you here today, in exchange you must pledge your loyalty to me. I think that's pretty fair, don't you?" With her sword still pointed at his chest, threatening to end his life in that very moment. Her reasoning seemed sound but he was a stubborn man.

"What makes you think I'll follow you?" Glaring up at this monster, droplets of blood slipped from his mouth as he spoke. Her spiritual power was too much for him, he thought she was just a mere weapon wielder. Yet her strikes were too powerful, he couldn't get a read on her. This scared him even more.

Just how powerful is she?

Stabbing her sword into the stage, she rested her chin on top of her hands that laid elegantly on the handle of her sword.

A lazy smile stretched across her rosy lips as she looked down at the man, "I know how much you value your life; you don't think I haven't noticed why you chose to fight me?"

"It's not as simple as earning money, you came up onto this stage today knowing it would result in death. Observing your character for a short time, I know you aren't stupid enough to risk your life simply for some money. It is because you are in debt."

She spoke in a harsh tone but only loud enough for him to hear. Her eyes traveled over the spot where about four men stood, two men were bodyguards and the other two appeared to be the ones in charge. Then her icy stare came back to him while a stupidly shocked look made its way onto his face.

"So what?" he sneered, but the frightened look in his eyes gave him away. She was able to read his situation so easily, was she some type of witch?

"Let's say I let you win, you get the prize money, correct?"

He slowly nodded.

"So by letting you win I am helping you, which just transfers your debt to me. Now you owe me for helping you. Specifically you owe me your life." Her eyes sharpened.

"Or I could just simply kill you, and this way I am saving you from your debt as well as saving you from the torture those bookies are sure to give you if you lose... However, you still owe me for helping you, but if you are dead and not much use to me."

He could not believe what he was hearing. A horrified and stunned look made its way onto his face.

What kind of sick-twisted way of thinking is this?!?!

"That's it! You have successfully changed my mind, I won't kill you and I will help you!" She beamed.

"So I will help you. I'll pay off your debt with the prize money, in exchange you must follow me, and be completely loyal only to me."

"Why me?" he asked, still unsure of her true motive. 'Why would this devil beauty want to help me?' He spitefully asked in his heart.

As long as he has lived, he has never had good luck.

Shrugging, "Believe it or not I actually see potential in you and you were the first one to not instantly die. With more training, you can be an excellent fighter. I need strong people, and you happen to be in luck! I am in a very generous mood today, so what is your answer?" She lifted her chin to him.

'Generous mood? Don't make me laugh!' He was sweating from being caught in her vicious stare; he didn't want to be tied down! He wanted to be a free man! But the only freedom at this moment was death, and there was no way he was going down that path. Either she killed him right now, or his debt was going to get him killed later tonight.

After glancing at the two bookies and a few more seconds of internal struggling, he finally agreed.

"Fine. I . . . Lumos, pledge my . . . loyalty to you." He grumbled through gritted teeth.

"Good Boy", withdrawing her sword, she placed it back in its sheath tied to her waist. "Now, get up. As my subordinate you should never be on the ground! It's embarrassing!"
