Thalia met William's eyes, a quiet question lingering in her gaze as she tried to convince herself this might finally work, that this time, she could become human.
"Or are you tired?" William asked, his brow lifting slightly when she stayed silent for too long.
Blinking, she swallowed before forcing herself to speak.
"Do you think you can handle me?"
The moment the words left her mouth, she regretted them.
William's lips curved slowly, that familiar, dangerous smile appearing again.
"Handle you?" he repeated, his voice lowering as he leaned just a little closer.
His gaze flickered over her face, then settled back into her eyes.
"By 'handle you'…" he continued, amusement clear in his tone, "do you mean—"
He stopped himself deliberately, just to watch her reaction.
Thalia couldn't handle his gaze and immediately looked away.
