Chapter 5 - The Man Who Says He Remembers You

The next morning arrived without feeling like morning.

No warmth.

No clarity.

Just continuation.

Lin Yue stood by the window of the villa, watching the gates outside.

A car had arrived.

Black.

Still.

Waiting.

Behind her, Shen Yichen was already dressed.

Suit. Cold expression. Controlled posture.

But something about him was different.

Not visible at first.

Only noticeable in the pauses.

The way he looked at things a second too long.

The car door opened.

A man stepped out.

Calm.

Confident.

Smiling like he already belonged inside.

Lin Yue's eyes narrowed slightly.

She didn't recognize him.

But something about the way he looked at her—

was too direct.

The doorbell rang.

Once.

Shen Yichen went to open it.

No hesitation.

The man smiled.

"Long time no see," he said.

Shen Yichen's expression didn't change.

"You're not supposed to be here."

The man tilted his head slightly.

"Oh?"

Then his gaze moved past him.

To Lin Yue.

And he smiled wider.

Like he had just found something he had been waiting for.

"Still the same," he said softly.

Lin Yue didn't move.

Shen Yichen's voice dropped.

"What do you want?"

The man finally looked at him.

"I came for her."

Silence.

Lin Yue stepped forward slightly.

"Do I know you?" she asked.

The man smiled.

"Yes."

A pause.

"Better than he does."

Shen Yichen's eyes darkened instantly.

"What did you say?"

The man walked inside anyway.

Uninvited.

Calm.

Like he didn't consider permission necessary.

He stopped a few steps away from Lin Yue.

"My name is Lu Han," he said.

Then smiled faintly.

"And I was your fiancé before him."

Silence dropped instantly.

Lin Yue didn't react outwardly.

But Shen Yichen did.

A shift.

A fracture.

"What did you say?" he repeated.

Lu Han looked at him.

Not afraid.

Not impressed.

"Funny," he said softly.

"You still react the same way."

Then he looked at Lin Yue again.

"You probably don't remember me."

A pause.

"But I remember you."

Silence tightened.

Shen Yichen stepped forward slightly.

Not aggressive.

But immediate.

Controlled danger.

"You're lying," he said.

Lu Han shook his head slightly.

"No."

Then softer:

"Someone made sure you would think that."

That sentence landed differently.

Lin Yue felt it.

Shen Yichen felt it too.

His expression changed slightly.

Not confusion.

Resistance.

Lu Han continued.

"You weren't supposed to forget her."

A pause.

"You were forced to."

Silence.

Heavy.

Shen Yichen didn't speak.

But something in his gaze shifted.

Not outward.

Inward.

Like something was trying to surface.

Lu Han looked at Lin Yue again.

"And you were erased from his life."

Lin Yue's fingers tightened slightly.

Not fear.

Recognition of danger.

Shen Yichen finally spoke.

"Prove it."

Lu Han smiled faintly.

"I can't."

A pause.

"But your body already remembers her."

Silence.

The air tightened instantly.

Shen Yichen didn't move.

But his hand slowly curled at his side.

Like something inside him was reacting before permission.

And then—

a sharp flicker hit his mind.

Rain.

A rooftop.

A voice calling his name.

A hand reaching for him—

and him leaving anyway.

He staggered slightly.

Just a fraction.

Lin Yue moved instinctively.

"Shen Yichen—"

He raised a hand.

Not to stop her.

To steady himself.

His breathing changed.

Slower.

Heavier.

Then he looked at Lin Yue.

And for the first time—

his voice wasn't controlled.

"…Have we met before?"

Silence.

Because that question wasn't curiosity anymore.

It was fear forming shape.

And behind them—

Lu Han watched quietly.

Because he knew.

This was only the beginning of remembering.
