After running for almost an hour, Lucian was on his last breath.
When the masked man was about close the distance between them, the boy dived left amd rolled over making the masked man jumping past him. But he stopped after just a few steps.
Lucian watched as he turned amd walked back to him before getting up.
The masked man stretched his hands towards the boy without uttering any words but Lucian already knew what he was asking for. He summoned the storage bag he had taken earlier from his storage ring and held it in his left hand while holding the burning torch in his right. "You know, my grandfather always told me stories. And one thing he always mentioned was that…" Lucian stared straight through the red glowing eyes behind the mask.
"The smallest mistakes are those that brings us down the easiest" Lucian simultaneously tossed the bag to the masked man and threw the burning torch behind him.
As soon as he caught the bag, the boy summoned his bow and arrow and fired two successive shots at the man but the latter dodge easily easy.
And that was fine. He didn't plan to hit him. He just needed enough time to start his plan.
Before the masked man realized what was happening, his surroundings turned red as a huge burning fire rose behind the boy.
"Hi!", "Bye"
Lucian said and dashed into the woods leaving the man behind.
The other man watched as the burning fire rose, running across the forest while burning everything in its wake as though it was following a path. It was as if the fire was being fueled by something because it only followed a path burning a certain section of the forest. Just then the man realized it. A trap. The fire was an encirclement and with the rate the fire was burning, he wasn't confident he could get out if he trapped in it. He stored the storage bag and doubled his pace running after the boy.
Lucian who has been running for a few minutes stopped in his tracks, checking the marks on the tree.
After confirming what he wanted to, he increase his pace and continued running.
A few minutes later, he stopped beside a tree with big makeshift which he had personally made. He stood there watching the place he came from keenly. Just then, he saw the movement of a shadow before the masked man appeared in front of him choking his neck.
He pressed a dagger against through, with his back against the tree.
"What have you done foolish child. Do you want us to die? We're trapped you idiot" The man said said in anger as he continued to press the boy's neck. The were now encircled as the huge fire encircled them, slowly burning and closing in on them.
It wasn't as if the the man hasn't been trapped in a fire before but this level of destruction was something only a few could survive.
Lucian tapped the back of the man's hand telling him to release his grip on him.
The man obliged but still kept his dagger pressed to his neck.
"Oufu oufu! Oufu" Lucian coughed out before looking at the man. "You gave me a survival test with to instructions on how to pass"
"You have hunted for two months. Day, night, dawn, in rain, knowing I was helpless with no way to defend myself" Lucian said before continuing.
"Now watch as the fire close in on us" the sounds of cracking tress and burning fire filled the surroundings.
"Watch as we get burned alive, helpless"
"Experience what you put me through" Lucian added while smiling at him.
"Fool, it was just meant to make you stronger. Ungrateful bastard" he said.
"Maybe. And it did mafe me stronger. Three months ago, I couldn't start fires like this.
"Well then you got what you want. We're getting burned alive" the man pulled back his dagger in frustration as he kept turning around, trying to find a way out.
"That's where you're wrong.But it all depends on you" Lucian said with a smile.
"What do you mean" He asked.
"Declare this phase of the training complete and that I passed and make pass it" Lucian said.
"You started a fire because of that" The man asked.
"Of course. Every necessary step to survive. Remember??" Lucian replied.
"Alright. I declare you a passed candidate of this phase" The man said.
"See simple."
"Now stop that fire" The man said.
"Uhh….not technically stopping it but making it not reach us" Lucian replied with an innocent face.
"Do it"
"Already done" Lucian said and pointed to the makeshift tent. "Get in".
What the man didn't know was that Lucian had already planned everything before he came to him.
The chemicals he used to start the fire came from his aunt's alchemy shop. It was a two deadly combo that could start a wild fire with just a little drop.
And with the right amount of the chemical in separate, it could stop it at just the same rate at which it burned.
