The mist parted. Not gently, but forcefully. As if something massive within it had decided to reveal itself. A low, growl echoed through the dungeon, shaking the very ground beneath their feet. The temperature dropped sharply, not from cold alone, but from the sheer density of dark energy that began to flood the area.
Then, within it, slowly it emerged. A towering figure stepped out of the shadows, its form is of a grotesque fusion of beast and revenant. Its body was covered in cracked, obsidian-like armor, with veins of dark energy pulsing beneath the surface like corrupted lifeblood. Its limbs were elongated, ending in massive claws that dragged across the ground, carving deep trenches with every movement.
Its head, was half skeletal and alf flesh. Its two hollow eyes burned with a dim, abyssal glow. The Nightfall Tyrant. The dungeon ruler. The embodiment of nightmare difficulty.
Lee Hyun's gaze sharpened instantly as Player Insight activated again, feeding him every possible detail, but even with all that information, one thing stood out above everything else.
"…It's overwhelming."
Not just stronger. But oppressive. Min Seoah stepped forward slightly, frost gathering around her body, her breath steady despite the crushing pressure.
"…We don't have the luxury to hesitate."
Lee Hyun nodded.
"…Then we don't."
The moment the boss moved, the fight began. It didn't roar. It didn't warn. It attacked. It took a single step, and it vanished.
"…Too Fast!"
Lee Hyun reacted instantly, activating Phantom Step, barely dodging as a massive claw tore through the space where he had stood. The air itself split from the force, a shockwave spreading outward and shattering nearby terrain.
Min Seoah responded immediately, raising her blade as frost surged outward in a wide arc.
"Freeze."
The ground beneath the boss crystallized instantly, layers of ice forming around its legs, restricting its movement for a fraction of a second. That fraction, was everything for them.
Lee Hyun moved instantly. Having The Demon Sword in one hand he unleashed the technique, Dragon Blade Dance – First Pattern. Fluid and Precise. His blade struck along the boss's side, targeting joints and weak structural points, but the resistance was immense. Sparks flew as his sword scraped against the hardened armor, barely penetrating.
"…Not enough."
The boss reacted instantly. Its body pulsed, and Terror Field activated. A suffocating pressure crashed down on both of them, distorting their senses, slowing their reactions, and filling their minds with an unnatural fear.
Min Seoah's movements faltered slightly.
"…This…"
Her breath tightened. But Lee Hyun remained steady.
"…Ignore it."
His voice cut through the pressure.
"…It's just influence. Not control."
His Heavenly-Demonic circulation stabilized his mind, resisting the fear. Seeing this Min Seoah clenched her grip. Her frost surged again.
"…Understood."
The battle intensified. The boss charged again, this time unleashing Abyssal Charge, its massive body accelerating with terrifying speed.
Lee Hyun moved first. He casted a spell Wind Push. His body shifted instantly, avoiding the direct hit.
Min Seoah also followed. Her blade cutting across the boss's flank, freezing parts of its armor as she moved past it. But the boss didn't stop. It turned mid-charge. Its claw slammed downward.
BOOM...
The impact shattered the ground, sending both of them back from the shockwave.
"…This isn't normal…"
Lee Hyun steadied himself.
"…It's adapting. He has some inteligence."
They attacked again. And again. But the difference in their level was real. Every strike they landed required effort. Every mistake was punished.
Lee Hyun used Second Pattern of Dragon Blade Dance and bursts, delivering explosive attacks that cracked parts of the boss's armor.
Min Seoah followed with precise frost strikes, freezing damaged areas to slow regeneration. They weren't overwhelming it. They were breaking it down. Piece by piece.
Time passed as they faught intesively. Their breathing grew heavier. Their bodies strained. But, the boss wasn't unscathed. Cracks had formed across its armor. Its movements, though still powerful, had slowed slightly.
"…We can kill it."
Lee Hyun said quietly. Min Seoah nodded.
"…But not like this."
A brief silence followed, then their eyes met. Understanding passed between them instantly. No words needed there.
"…One attack."
"…Together."
They moved. Simultaneously. Lee Hyun stepped forward, activating Dragon Blade Dance – Second Pattern, his energy surging violently as the Demon's Sword began to glow with deep crimson light.
Min Seoah raised her blade, her frost energy condensing into a single, concentrated point. The air around her froze, particles crystallizing as her power peaked.
Their energies were opposites. Yet still aligned.
"…Now."
The boss charged. One final time. Its energy gathered, preparing a devastating Bone Rupture attack. But before it could release, they moved.
Lee Hyun dashed forward using Phantom Step, closing the distance instantly. Min Seoah followed from the side, her movement silent, precise.
At the exact same moment t both struck. Crimson and frost. Collided then merged and exploded.
Lee Hyun's blade pierced through a cracked section of armor, his demonic energy forcing its way inside.
Min Seoah's frost followed instantly, freezing the internal structure, stopping regeneration completely.
Then the energy detonated. A combined critical strike. Perfectly synchronized.
The boss froze. Literally, Its entire body locked for a fraction of a second. Then a sound emerged.
CRACK.
The cracks spread. Across its entire form. And It shattered. Silence. Complete and Absolute silence followed. The massive body collapsed, breaking apart into fragments of fading energy.
Then, the system appeared. A notification instantly droped.
[Boss Defeated]
[Dungeon Cleared – Nightmare Difficulty]
And a big energy surged into both of them. Powerful and overwhelming. Both heard a sound.
[Level Up!]
Min Seoah's aura stabilized first.
"…Level 13."
Her voice was calm, but there was a slight shift. May be satisfaction. Lee Hyun felt the surge continue further. Stronger and more Deeper.
"…Level 14."
He exhaled slowly.
"…We did it."
They stood there. Side by side. Not speaking. But understanding. This wasn't luck. This wasn't coincidence. This was thier synchronization. Which lead them to victory.
Min Seoah glanced at him briefly.
"…That attack…"
Lee Hyun smirked slightly.
"…Not bad, right?"
A small pause. Then.
"…Not bad."
For her that was high praise. The dungeon began to collapse. Light broke through the darkness once more. But this time, they weren't the same as before.
They had grown. Not just individually. But together. And somewhere deep within, both of them realized it. This partnership, could become something terrifying.
