Chapter 33 - Chapter 33: SWARM OF THE BROKEN ABYSS

The dungeon did not feel like a dungeon anymore. It felt like something alive. Something aware. Something… that is watching. The moment the notification faded, the atmosphere shifted so drastically that even breathing became heavier.

The forest they had entered earlier was gone. No, not gone… but twisted. Trees had extended unnaturally, their trunks blackened like charred bones, their branches hanging low like claws waiting to tear apart anything that passed beneath them. The ground pulsed faintly, as if something beneath it was moving… crawling… waiting.

And then, they heard it. A sound. Low at first. Almost unnoticeable. But it grew.., fast. A chorus of guttural, distorted voices, overlapping each other in chaotic rhythm.

"…Is this Goblin voices?"

Min Seoah's expression tightened. But Lee Hyun didn't respond immediately. Because what he felt, was wrong.

"…Yeah. But not normal goblins…"

His grip tightened around the Demon's Sword as his gaze scanned the darkness ahead. Then they appeared. One. Two. Then Ten. Then dozens. From behind trees. From the shadows. From the ground itself.

Goblins. But not the kind anyone would recognize. Their bodies were taller, more distorted, muscles bulging unnaturally under their dark green skin. Their eyes glowed with a sickening red light, veins pulsing violently across their bodies like corrupted roots. Some carried crude weapons like, axes, spears, broken blades. But others… Others had claws. Long and sharp. And dripping with something dark.

Lee Hyun activated Player Insight instantly. And what he saw, made his eyes narrow.

[Corrupted Abyss Goblin]

Level: 18–22

"…What?"

Min Seoah spoke first this time.

"…That's not possible."

D Rank dungeon. Even at nightmare level, normal Goblins or monsters shouldn't exceed level 15. Yet here they were. Dozens of them. All stronger than before. All, Watching as they set their eyes on them. Waiting and Surrounding them.

Lee Hyun exhaled slowly.

"…We're not fighting a dungeon anymore."

A pause.

"…We're fighting something that broke the system."

The goblins began to move.bNot wildly. Not chaotically. But, In formation. They circled. Closing in slowly. Like predators.

"…They're coordinating."

Min Seoah's frost began to spread across the ground instinctively.

"…This is bad."

Lee Hyun nodded.

"…Stay close."

No hesitation. No argument. She stepped beside him. Their shoulders nearly aligned. And in that moment, the first goblin attacked. It lunged forward with terrifying speed, its claws slicing through the air with a sharp, piercing sound.

Lee Hyun moved first, unleashing Phantom Step. His body vanished, reappeared behind it. His sword cut cleanly through its neck. But, the moment it fell, three more took its place.

"…No gaps."

Min Seoah reacted instantly, her blade sweeping forward as frost exploded outward, freezing a cluster of incoming goblins mid-motion.

"Shatter."

Her sword struck.

CRACK.

The frozen bodies broke apart instantly. But they didn't stop. Instead more came. From every direction. From every shadow. Like an endless tide. The battlefield erupted.

Lee Hyun activated Dragon Blade Dance – Second Pattern, his movements turning aggressive, explosive. His blade cut through multiple enemies in a single motion, crimson energy trailing behind each strike as the Demon's Sword resonated with his intent.

Goblins fell. One after another. But for every one that fell, Two more advanced.

"…This isn't a wave…"

"…It's a swarm."

Min Seoah expanded her frost domain further, freezing large sections of the ground to slow their movement. Ice spikes erupted from beneath, impaling several goblins at once, while her blade moved with lethal precision, cutting down anything that came too close.

Their styles were different. But effective. Lee Hyun disrupted the flow. Min Seoah controlled the space. Together they held the line. But the pressure kept increasing. More goblins appeared. This time, stronger ones. And also the larger ones. Some carried crude armor. Others emitted dark energy.

Lee Hyun's eyes sharpened as Player Insight flickered again.

[Abyss-Touched Goblin Elite]

Level: 24

"…Elites now?"

Before he could react, one of them charged. Faster than the rest. And more Stronger. Its weapon, a massive cleaver, swung downward with crushing force. Lee Hyun raised his sword in defence.

CLANG.

The impact shook his entire body, forcing him back slightly.

"…Heavy…"

The goblin roared, and attacked again. This time, Min Seoah intercepted. Her blade froze the cleaver mid-swing, frost spreading rapidly along its surface.

"Break."

She twisted her wrist.

CRACK.

The weapon shattered. Lee Hyun moved instantly. His blade pierced through the goblin's chest, ending it. But there was no time to breathe. The swarm closed in tighter. The circle shrank. Their movement space reduced.

"…We're getting boxed in."

Min Seoah's voice remained calm, but urgent. Lee Hyun exhaled slowly.

"…Then we break it."

A pause.

"…Together."

She didn't respond. But her aura rose. That was enough. They moved Simultaneously. Lee Hyun surged forward, activating Wind Push to accelerate his movement, cutting through the front line of goblins with rapid, precise strikes.

Min Seoah followed, her frost expanding outward in a wide arc, freezing the ground and enemies alike, creating a temporary opening. They pushed hard and relentless.

The swarm resisted. Claws grazed and Weapons struck. Their bodies took minor hits. But they didn't stop. Lee Hyun's Demon's Sword pulsed, its Devouring Edge activating as it absorbed energy from each kill, sustaining his stamina.

Min Seoah's frost grew colder, sharper, her movements becoming more efficient as she adapted to the pressure. Their coordination improved. Not consciously. But instinctively.

He created space. She controlled it. She froze enemies. He shattered them. A rhythm formed. A deadly one. But the dungeon wasn't done. The ground trembled again. And from the back of the swarm, something bigger emerged.

A massive goblin. Twice the size of the others. Its body covered in jagged armor, its eyes burning brighter than the rest.

[Goblin Warbringer – Corrupted Variant]

Level: 27

Lee Hyun narrowed his eyes.

"…This just keeps getting worse."

The Warbringer roared, and charged. The swarm followed. A full assault. No retreat. No pause. Only overwhelm.

Lee Hyun stepped forward.

"…I'll take it."

Min Seoah nodded.

"…I'll control the rest."

No hesitation. Perfect understanding. The Warbringer's attack came fast. Too fast for its size. Its massive blade descended with devastating force.

Lee Hyun dodged using Phantom Step, reappearing at its side as his sword struck its armor. But the resistance was immense.

"…Tough."

The Warbringer turned instantly, its backhand strike forcing Lee Hyun to block the impact sent him sliding back.

Meanwhile...

Min Seoah unleashed her full frost domain, freezing dozens of goblins at once, her blade moving like a storm as she cut them down rapidly, preventing them from interfering.

"…Finish it!"

She called out. Lee Hyun nodded. His energy surged. The Demon's Sword glowed brighter, crimson and violent.

"…Let's end this."

He activated Second Pattern fully. His movements became explosive. Unpredictable. He dodged the Warbringer's next strike, closed the distance and struck. Again. And again. Targeting the same point. Breaking. Cracking. Until, the armor gave way.

"…Now."

His blade pierced through, deep. The Warbringer froze. Then collapsed. The swarm faltered. Just for a moment. But that moment, was enough. Lee Hyun and Min Seoah moved together. Clearing. Destroying. Erasing. Until Only silence returned.

Heavy breathing filled the space. Bodies scattered across the ground. The air still thick, but quieter. Lee Hyun stood still.

"…That was…"

Min Seoah finished.

"…Just the beginning."

Because deep within the dungeon, something else moved. Something stronger. Something watching. And they both knew, this fight… Was far from over.
