The Black Skies

Satya, an average 17-year-old student, always liked to be alone and stare at the night sky.

He always thought that he didn't belong in this world.

He believed he was different from other people , he always liked to pursue the truth.

Not the truth in the normal sense, but the truth in its purest form.

Like the truth of the universe,

the truth behind why humans came to be.

Because of his habit of seeking truth in its purest form, he was a sort of outlier from the norm.

At another social gathering—

Shree said, "Why can't you ever have fun anywhere?"

Satya replied that even he didn't know. He never liked to drink and put on masks of persona to impress people.

Shree said, "You are so boring, dude. C'mon and have fun with us. Let's play a game. "

Somebody from the group said, "How about spin the bottle?"

"Well then, it's decided," said Shree.

"If that's what you want, I can play along. Just for you," said Satya.

Shree was a 16-year-old girl. She was above average in looks and always liked to be in crowded places.

She always wanted to become a teacher because she always liked to teach others and help them improve.

Satya remembered last summer when he decided to go to the Himalayas.

In the deep snowy mountains, he met a strange man who called himself an Aghori. He was standing naked in the freezing cold, wearing nothing but a single pelt.

The man suddenly laughed when he looked at Satya.

He said, "Oh, pitiful young man, for your fate is intertwined with something huge.

Whether it will be a good opportunity or a bad one depends on you.

If you can persevere, you may have the opportunity of your lifetime."

Just as Satya was dazed,

Shree suddenly called out to him.

"Satya, are you dazed again? It's your turn."

Just like that, the gathering continued with sounds of laughter and cheers.

That night, Satya climbed the mountain near his house to get a better view of the stars.

Just as Satya climbed to the top of the mountain, suddenly the whole world turned black.

There were no stars shining, no crickets chirping, just silence.

In a flash of light everything returned to normal,

but there was an ominous feeling in his heart.

He suddenly remembered the warning of that Aghori.

Far away in his sight, he spotted a throne that was as black as the night.

He approached it

when he suddenly heard a voice that was dominating and overbearing.

The voice said—

"Kneel."

"Huh? Who said that?"

said Satya.

"Kneel, I said."

Suddenly, a formless mass like black smoke pressed down on Satya's body, forcing him to kneel.

"Who are you, and why do you want me to kneel?" shouted Satya.

"Oh... human, be joyful,

for your meager fate is intertwined with mine."

"What!?" Satya said.

Suddenly, the memory of the Aghori flashed through his mind.

Satya calmed down and asked..

"How is my fate intertwined with yours?"

"The answer to that is you are the key to helping me achieve omniscience,"

said The Black Skies.

"How am I a key!?

I don't understand,"

asked Satya impatiently.

"Because you will become my Dreamer, that's why you are the key."

"Huh!? What's a Dreamer, and why am I your Dreamer?"

asked Satya with a confused expression.

"You are a person fated to go through countless lives, and I will live those lives with you to understand every life.

That is your fate.

For it is a torture only the strongest of hearts can endure.

For it is the torture of time."

"And what will I gain in return for becoming your Dreamer?" asked Satya.

"You will gain what you most desire in your life—

the truth in its purest form,

the truth behind everything,"

answered The Black Skies.

"I have always pursued the truth, but how do you know that?

And if you know that, then that must mean you know everything.

Then aren't you omniscient already?"

argued Satya.

"Oh, foolish human.

True omniscience isn't about knowing everything; it is about understanding everything.

For knowledge alone isn't enough.

You require understanding to put it into use.

Knowledge is only about the past and the present.

But only with understanding can you know the future.

For example, if you have knowledge of a computer, then you can build a computer, but you can't know in which direction it will develop.

That is why knowledge itself is incomplete.

It requires understanding to be complete."

Explained The Black skies in a way Satya can understand

"...."

Satya remained quiet because all of this was too much knowledge to understand

"To understand it, I need a Dreamer,"

answered The Black Skies in a neutral tone.

"Then.... how does being a Dreamer work?"

asked Satya cautiously.

"A Dreamer is a being with whom I share my senses.

That being will go through many lives in many different worlds.

And only by understanding all kinds of lives can I truly achieve omniscience,"

answered The Black Skies.

"So to go through eternal suffering is the fate of a Dreamer?"

asked Satya in a pessimistic voice.

"A Dreamer is a person who will gain the experience of many lives.

He may even become omniscient himself if he truly understands each of his lives,"

answered The Black Skies in his neutral tone.

"And how do I gain the truth?"

asked Satya.

"Only by becoming omniscient can one truly gain the truth in its purest form,"

answered The Black Skies.

"Then I am ready to become your Dreamer.

For my goal, that eternal suffering is merely the path.

If I can achieve my goal, only then will my life truly be fulfilled,

And even if I break in the middle,

then that too would be a journey indeed,"

said Satya like a lunatic.

"Then go home.

For I will always be present in the night sky.

And as a perk,

You may choose the first world"

said The Black Skies in a melodious tone.

Suddenly, everything turned black again.

And after a few moments, Satya was back on the mountain.

But something had changed in his eyes,

they were full of life,

like they were expecting an unreachable end.

Some days passed.

One night, while Satya was sitting on his roof, he suddenly said,

"Oh, deity of the Black Skies,

I am ready to dream.

And for this dream,

I choose....."
