Chapter 33 - Chapter 32: “Almost Public Kiss”

Monday night, and the city lights twinkled like stars as Ethan and I walked hand in hand along the quiet streets after dinner. The air was crisp, carrying a hint of rain from earlier, and every step made my heart flutter a little faster than usual.

"So… did you enjoy our little date?" he asked, eyes sparkling, hand tightening slightly around mine.

"I did," I admitted, smiling up at him. "More than I expected. It's… nice. Comfortable. And fun," I added nervously, feeling his gaze linger a little too long.

"Fun, huh?" he teased, tilting his head. "I thought it was more than fun… especially for you."

I blushed, quickly looking away, though I couldn't stop my hand from squeezing his. "Ethan… stop teasing me," I murmured, though the laugh escaping me betrayed my fluster.

He smirked, leaning closer. "Teasing? Me? I'm just being honest." His thumb brushed against the back of my hand, slow and deliberate, sending shivers up my spine.

We stopped at a small park bench overlooking the river. The water reflected the city lights, sparkling like liquid diamonds. Ethan sat down, pulling me gently beside him. I nestled close, our shoulders touching, feeling the warmth of his body against mine.

"Lara…" he whispered, voice low, almost shaky. "I… I want to kiss you."

My heart skipped a beat. "E-Ethan…" I breathed, cheeks burning. "Here? People… might see us."

He smiled softly, but the intensity in his eyes didn't waver. "I don't care. Not tonight." He leaned closer, and our faces were just inches apart. The world seemed to shrink, leaving only the two of us, the river, and the quiet hum of the city.

I could feel his breath on my lips, electric and tempting. My hands rested on his chest, trembling slightly. "Ethan… I…"

"Shh," he whispered, placing a finger gently over my lips. "Not yet. Let's savor this."

The tension was unbearable, the almost-kiss hanging between us like a delicate thread. My heart raced, my breath caught in my throat, every nerve alive with desire. One more step, one more tilt of his head… and we would cross that line.

But then, a soft laugh from a distant jogger made us both jump. Ethan pulled back slightly, chuckling, though his hand lingered near mine. "Okay… maybe not here," he said, eyes glinting with mischief.

I laughed nervously, hiding my face against his shoulder. "You… you almost got me," I murmured.

"I almost did," he admitted, brushing a strand of hair from my face. "And soon… I won't hold back. I promise, Lara. Soon, it'll just be us… no rules, no hiding."

I nodded, heart racing, smiling against him. "Soon," I echoed. "I can wait… as long as it's with you."

And as we walked back toward the streetlights, our hands intertwined, my pulse still hammering, I knew one thing for certain—tonight was a dangerous kind of beautiful.
