Chapter 32 - Lucky

Jay Jay's POV

Calix was laughing so hard he nearly fell off the chair.

"No because tell me WHY Ci N writes notes like he's signing a billion dollar contract," he said between laughs.

I snorted, covering my mouth. "Did you see his handwriting today? It looks like ancient symbols."

"That's disrespectful," Ci N said flatly without even looking up from his notebook.

"It's true though," I laughed. "Even Google Translate would give up."

Felix was already wheezing in the back while Drew kept repeating,

"Ancient symbols is crazy."

Ci N finally looked up with the most offended expression ever.

"You all are jealous because my handwriting has personality."

"Your handwriting needs subtitles," Calix replied immediately.

That sent me laughing again.

Actual laughing.

The kind where my shoulders shook a little and my eyes watered slightly.

It felt… normal.

Light.

Easy.

Then suddenly—

someone stopped behind my chair.

Tall.

Close enough for me to notice immediately.

The laughter around me continued but something in my chest tightened for a second.

My smile faded slightly.

For one stupid moment—

I thought—

No.

I quickly pushed the thought away.

He's not here.

Why would he be here?

Probably Yuri.

Late as usual.

Without turning around, I leaned back slightly and said,

"Wow… you're late? That's something new in my life. Yuri being late should honestly be recorded somewhere."

A few people chuckled.

Then—

"Missed me that much?"

Everything stopped.

My breath.

My thoughts.

My heartbeat.

Slowly—

too slowly—

I turned around.

And there he was.

Keifer.

Standing right behind me with that same effortless smirk on his face.

Like he hadn't disappeared.

Like nothing had changed.

Like he didn't just completely destroy my ability to think for the next five seconds.

Silence.

Then—

"OHHHHHH—" Drew practically screamed.

Felix slapped the desk violently. "NO WAY."

Calix looked between us with the biggest grin ever. "Okay this is cinema."

I stared at Keifer for a second too long before forcing myself to recover.

My expression flattened instantly.

Controlled.

Calm.

Unaffected.

At least… hopefully.

Keifer tilted his head slightly, still looking at me.

"What?" he said casually. "That disappointed?"

"Very," I replied immediately.

The class exploded again.

"DAMN," Josh yelled.

"She shot him on the spot," Mayo added dramatically.

Keifer only laughed softly.

Actually laughed.

Then he pulled the chair beside me back slightly and sat down like he belonged there.

Which annoyingly—

he did.

Calix leaned toward me slowly. "You froze."

"I didn't."

"You literally stared at him like your soul disconnected."

"I hate all of you."

"That means yes," Felix nodded seriously.

I ignored them and looked back down at my notebook.

Even though my heart still hadn't calmed down.

Not even close.

And the worst part?

I could still feel Keifer looking at me beside me.

Like he found my reaction amusing.

Like he noticed everything I tried to hide.

Before I could even recover from the embarrassment of literally freezing in front of him—

the classroom door opened again.

Sir Alvin walked in with his usual coffee in one hand and papers in the other.

He looked around the room once.

Then smiled.

"Oh," he said dramatically, placing the papers down. "Finally. The class is complete."

The entire room burst into laughter immediately.

"Welcome back, alien species," Drew called out.

Sir Alvin pointed at him. "Exactly who I was referring to."

Keifer only leaned back lazily in his chair beside me, looking completely unbothered.

Meanwhile I kept my eyes glued to my notebook.

Because looking beside me felt dangerous right now.

---

Sir Alvin started writing formulas on the board while explaining something about the lesson.

Something important probably.

Very educational.

Very useful.

Too bad my brain had completely left the classroom.

---

Because now that the initial shock faded—

my stupid mind decided to replay how Keifer looked.

In detail.

Way too much detail.

---

I mean—

was he always that tall?

No seriously.

He looked taller.

Like actually taller.

Did London air and water secretly increase height or something?

Because I lived there too and I'm still short.

This is discrimination.

---

And his skin—

What the hell.

Why was he so fair now?

Like unfairly fair.

Maybe even more than me.

No because that's actually insulting.

I need skincare immediately.

Whatever rich people in London are using, I need it too.

---

And when he leaned toward me earlier—

his skin looked so smooth.

Like annoyingly smooth.

Clear.

Bright.

Not a single flaw visible.

This man came back looking like he got sponsored by luxury skincare brands.

---

And his lips—

Oh my God.

His lips were literally pinker than mine.

Mine.

I use lip gloss.

Expensive lip gloss.

And somehow his still looked better naturally?

That should genuinely be illegal for a man.

---

Then there was his jawline.

Sharp.

Straight.

Clean.

Like those perfectly cut strawberry sandwiches from expensive cafés.

Too neat.

Too perfect.

Too attractive.

---

And because his top buttons were open slightly—

my eyes accidentally drifted lower.

To his neck.

---

…Oh.

---

His neck looked—

really—

really kissable.

---

Wait.

Jay.

Jay.

What the hell is wrong with you?

---

I immediately looked back at the board in horror.

No.

Absolutely not.

Control yourself.

You also have lips.

And a jawline.

And a beautiful neck.

And collarbones.

Very nice collarbones actually.

Stop acting thirsty, Jay

---

"Jay."

I froze.

Slowly turning my head—

only to see Keifer staring at me with the slightest smirk.

"…What?" I asked cautiously.

His eyes flickered downward briefly before meeting mine again.

"You've been staring at me for the last five minutes."

---

My soul left my body.

---

"I was not."

"You were."

"I literally wasn't."

"You looked at my face like you were studying for an exam."

---

Behind us—

Drew gasped loudly.

"OH MY GOD SHE GOT CAUGHT."

Felix nearly fell off his chair laughing.

Calix slapped the desk violently. "THIS IS THE BEST DAY OF MY LIFE."

---

Heat rushed straight to my face.

"I hate this class," I muttered.

Keifer laughed softly beside me.

And somehow—

that sound was even worse for my heart.

"Alright, enough," Sir Alvin suddenly said, turning around from the board. "You people came here to study, not to produce a drama series. Quiet."

The class groaned dramatically.

"Especially you," he pointed at Drew.

Drew placed a hand on his chest. "Why am I always the victim?"

"Because you never stop talking."

"Valid," Felix nodded seriously.

I immediately looked back at my notebook.

And this time—

I made sure not to look at Keifer again.

Not even once.

No matter how aware I was of him sitting beside me.

No matter how many times I could feel him glancing at me.

No matter how many times he quietly called my name.

"Jay."

Ignored.

A few minutes later—

"Jay."

Still ignored.

Then again—

"Jay."

Absolutely nothing.

"Damn," Calix whispered from behind me. "Bro is getting aired."

Felix nearly laughed out loud. "She's treating him like a spam call."

"Deserved," Rory muttered.

Eren looked at me carefully. "Honestly… he doesn't even deserve your anger."

Josh nodded. "Yeah. Anger means emotional investment."

Mayo added dramatically, "Silence is scarier."

I stared at all of them in disbelief.

Seriously?

These people were actual ulupongs.

Sir Alvin somehow survived the class despite the constant chaos.

And finally—

the bell rang.

Lunch break.

Instant freedom.

The entire room exploded into movement.

Chairs scraping.

People talking.

Bags opening.

Keifer stood up from beside me.

For a second—

I almost relaxed.

Finally.

Peace.

Silence.

Oxygen.

Then he walked out of the classroom.

And unfortunately—

came back five minutes later.

With a huge bag.

No.

Huge was an understatement.

That thing looked like he robbed an entire convenience store.

He dropped it directly onto my table.

The loud THUD instantly got everyone's attention.

I blinked slowly.

Then looked inside.

Chocolate.

Chips.

Cold drink cans.

Candies.

Cookies.

And somehow—

every single thing inside was my favorite.

…What the hell.

"He's rich rich now," Drew whispered dramatically.

Felix looked emotional. "I would forgive him immediately."

"You forgive people for one biscuit," Calix replied.

"That's not the point."

Felix pointed toward us dramatically. "We're suffering because of relationship issues."

"I am not in a relationship with him," I said immediately.

Silence.

Then—

"OHHHHHH," Mayo yelled.

"That was QUICK," Josh laughed.

Denzel looked at Keifer. "Damn bro."

I slowly looked from the bag to Keifer.

"…What is this?"

"Snacks," he replied casually.

I stared at him.

"And what exactly am I supposed to do with these?"

He leaned slightly against the desk.

"Take it."

"As much as you want."

The class went dead silent.

Then—

Ci N slowly reached for a chocolate.

And immediately—

Keifer grabbed his wrist.

Fast.

"Uh—"

Keifer looked around the room calmly.

"No one takes anything," he said casually, "until Jay takes her share."

"Clear?"

Silence.

Then chaos.

"DAMN," Drew shouted.

"That's strict," Denzel laughed.

Felix looked genuinely offended. "Why are we starving innocent civilians?"

"We're suffering," Mayo added dramatically.

I looked at Keifer.

Seriously?

Did he actually think he could win me over this easily with snacks?

Not so easy, Waston.

Without another word—

I pushed the giant bag forward slightly and stood up.

"I don't want it."

The class immediately quieted again.

I grabbed my phone from the desk.

"Either you all take your share or don't," I said flatly. "I don't care."

Then I walked out of the classroom.

And the second I stepped outside—

my stomach growled.

Loudly.

I stopped walking.

Horrified.

Fuck.

Jay.

Jay.

You are actually hungry.

And Section E wasn't even allowed to go to the cafeteria right now.

I slowly looked back toward the classroom.

Then away again immediately.

No.

Self respect first.

Food later.

…Wow.

Self respect above food.

What an inspiring way to suffer.

I walked out toward the main building with my hands inside my pockets.

Still hungry.

Still annoyed.

Still trying not to think about the giant snack bag sitting in the classroom.

Then suddenly—

it hit me.

Wait.

Shit.

I'm not even allowed to go to the cafeteria because I'm in Section E.

Just wow.

Amazing.

Beautiful.

What a lovely life.

I was still mentally mourning my lost lunch when I saw Aries walking toward me with Ella beside him.

The three of us stared at each other for a second with the same bored expression.

Honestly—

we looked related.

My eyes shifted toward Aries immediately.

"Have you eaten?" he asked.

I looked at him blankly.

"Of course not. How exactly am I supposed to eat?"

Aries snorted softly.

"Well… me and Ella were going to a nearby drive through," he said casually. "You should come with us."

Right on cue—

my stomach growled loudly.

Silence.

Ella looked down slightly.

Aries looked away to hide his laugh.

I closed my eyes in embarrassment.

Traitor.

Absolute traitor.

"Well okay," I muttered awkwardly. "Let's go."

A few minutes later—

we were sitting in the car near the drive through while Aries ordered.

The smell of food alone was healing my soul.

"So," Aries suddenly said while driving forward slightly, "Keifer's back."

I stared outside the window.

"Unfortunately."

"What have you thought about it?"

I blinked.

"Should I think about it?"

Aries shrugged. "I mean… he's back now."

"Well he's back," I replied simply. "What exactly can I do about it?"

Ella stayed quiet beside him for a second before speaking softly.

"Some people change though."

I glanced at her.

"And some people just get better styling teams."

Aries choked on his own laugh.

Ella smiled tightly. "I meant emotionally."

"Ah," I nodded. "Can't relate."

The worker handed us our order.

One burger.

Fries.

Cold drink.

Chicken nuggets basket.

And a wrap.

Aries stared at the amount of food in horror.

"Jay," he said slowly, "you are genuinely a threat to my wallet."

I happily grabbed the fries bag first.

"Thank you."

Ella only took an iced tea.

Then she smiled slightly while fixing her hair.

"I don't really eat much, you know Aries."

The way she said it made my eyes slowly lift toward her.

Oh.

So that's what we're doing.

Aries' phone suddenly rang.

He glanced at the screen.

"I'll be back in a minute."

Then he stepped outside the car to answer it.

The second he left—

silence filled the car.

Ella took a sip from her drink calmly.

Meanwhile I opened my nuggets box.

Then I smiled sweetly.

"Well maybe you need to eat less to impress your boyfriend," I said casually before taking a fry, "but I don't."

Ella's eyes flickered toward me.

I continued innocently,

"He even got me a huge bag of snacks today, you know."

I pretended to think for a second.

"Actually no… maybe like ten— no, twenty times more than this."

I took another bite peacefully.

"Because he knows how much I love food."

Ella's expression stiffened slightly.

"So I don't really have to pretend to be some flower girl, you know?"

I smiled brightly.

"I'm lucky."

We got back to school a little before lunch break ended.

I stepped into the classroom while still holding my drink and immediately everyone looked at me.

Like actually looked at me.

"JAY WHERE WERE YOU?" Mayo almost shouted dramatically.

I blinked.

"…Outside?"

"You disappeared," Drew said.

Felix pointed toward the empty seat beside mine. "This man literally didn't eat."

Calix nodded seriously. "He spent the whole lunch break trying to find you."

Josh added, "Bro was walking around the building like a stressed husband."

"I AM NOT—" I started immediately.

"Too late," Rory interrupted.

I looked toward Keifer's seat instinctively.

Empty.

Something twisted in my chest slightly.

Guilt maybe.

Just a little.

Tiny.

Microscopic.

Well…

I didn't tell him to look for me.

Right?

Before I could think more about it—

the classroom door suddenly opened.

And Keifer walked in.

His eyes immediately found me.

Instantly.

Like he'd been searching for only that.

Then—

I saw it.

The visible relief in his expression.

Small.

Quick.

But there.

He walked toward me fast.

"Jay," he exhaled, stopping in front of me. "Where were you?"

I blinked at him.

"I thought you got into some kind of trouble," he continued, still slightly breathless. "You know there are literally people behind you ready to kidnap you and all that insane—"

"Keifer."

He stopped talking immediately.

The classroom slowly quieted.

I looked at him for a second.

Then away.

"…I managed when you weren't here."

Silence.

"You don't need to act like you were always there for me."

The words hurt coming out.

Actually hurt.

Because a part of me wanted him to deny it.

To say something.

Anything.

But Keifer just stood there.

Looking at me quietly.

And for the first time since he came back—

that confidence faded slightly from his face.

Guilt.

It was right there in his eyes.

Clear enough for me to see.

And somehow—

that made my chest hurt even more.

Before either of us could say anything else—

the teacher walked into the classroom.

"Sit down," he said immediately.

The noise returned instantly.

Everyone rushed back to their places.

Keifer looked at me one more second.

Like he wanted to say something.

Then silently—

he sat down beside me again.

And this time—

for the rest of the class—

he didn't joke.

Didn't tease.

Didn't even try to annoy me.

He just stayed quiet.
