Chapter 19 - Chapter 19: The Descent

Riven looked around him after he stepped through the exit. Lanterns hung from every section of the roof, illuminating the corridor.

This corridor was much better lit than the place where the Vrekhar, Kulvrek, was having a meeting with his subordinates.

He ignored it and continued looking around…

As his eyes darted around, he spotted a large window not too far away from them. He walked towards the window and took a look outside.

Below him, countless small tower-like structures dotted the ground, and dozens of supply carts pulled by four-legged beasts moved along the paths between them.

From this, he could tell most of these structures were used for storage. At the far end stood large towering walls lined with minaret-like structures — similar to the one where he'd found the Heritage Seed.

From inside this wall rose fumes of smoke that he assumed were pollution or something burning. He recognized the place with a single glance.

That was the place where human slaves were constantly working… the place from where he had escaped.

As he was staring at it, Null's voice resounded through his ears.

"Guide us to the section where the majority of weapons are crafted."

Riven turned towards him and asked even though he knew the answer.

"Why?"

Null replied without hesitation.

"We are going to destroy it…"

Riven said nothing then he asked.

"What about the human slaves? Are we going to free them?"

Everyone fell silent — no one spoke a single word. Riven just sighed and said.

"So the answer is no huh? Well, I don't really care about them but at the same time I feel kind of bad for them."

Null answered a moment later.

"It's not like we don't want to save them, it's just that we can't free them all by ourselves, especially with the Ascended Vrekhar around."

As they were talking, Riven heard the footsteps of something heavy growing louder with each passing second. Before anyone could react, Null said.

"Vrekhar soldiers are approaching us… I don't want to kill them since if too many of them go missing the chances of them noticing something wrong will increase."

Riven asked.

"So what should we do?"

Null didn't say a word instead he rushed towards the open window at the other side and looked down from it. A heartbeat later, he turned to them and said.

"We have to climb down this window…"

Riven raised one of his eyebrows behind the mask and said.

"Isn't that risky? What if Vrekhars spot us? Won't that defeat the purpose of us not killing the Vrekhar?"

Null shook his head and said.

"There aren't any guards that I can see…"

As they were talking, the sounds of footsteps grew louder. They were getting close…

Then Null turned towards Gravitor and said.

"Gravitor get to work… we don't have much time before they arrive."

Gravitor nodded, he walked towards the window and stood beside Null. Before he could ask what they were planning, he saw a plank of wood floating outside the window.

Then another one came making it two… then three and then four. Four planks were floating outside the window.

Everyone rushed towards the planks, stepped outside the window, and put their feet on top of the planks. Seeing this Riven did the same and put his entire weight on top of the wooden planks.

And before the guards patrolling the corridor could arrive, the wooden planks began to descend very quickly. They were descending to the ground so quickly that he literally felt like the plank that he was standing would snap in two.

As they descended, he scanned the area. This side was almost identical to the other, just with fewer guards and no towering walls at the very far end.

Then he turned to Gravitor, pondering what kind of power he had. So far he has shown that he can make things float and make them come crashing down at incredible speeds.

"Can he manipulate gravity?"

It was possible… all the abilities that he had demonstrated could be possible only if he can manipulate Gravity…

Lost in thought, the plank came to a sudden halt with so much force that he almost lost balance and fell. However, he quickly drove his toes into the plank anchoring him successfully.

He took a closer look at his own plank and saw it was just a few inches away from the ground. It had just been a few seconds since he was standing on it.

"It was very quick…"

Then everyone jumped, landing on the ground below. Not wanting to be left behind, he jumped and landed on the ground.

Before he could ask anything, Null suddenly said.

"There are dozens of Vrekhar soldiers around us… We need to find a safe place before we can plan our next move."

Afterwards Null charged forward and everyone including Riven followed him. Null took one sharp turn after another while everyone followed him.

A few minutes later, they came to a stop in front of a building. Null stepped inside, and the others followed behind him.

Riven stepped inside last and he took a close look around him. The place was full of dust and there were countless weapons neatly placed on tables covered in dust and which appeared to be broken.

Most of the weapons were either rusted or broken.

As he did, Null closed the door, he walked towards a certain spot and sat down. Then Gravitor asked.

"Why have you brought us here Sir?"

Null immediately replied.

"This place is abandoned and there is no Vrekhar nearby so it's safe for us to stay… at least for now."

Null turned towards him and said.

"Now that we are in a safe place… I want you to tell us the exact path to reach the weapons manufacturing complex."

Riven remained silent, then he added a moment later.

"It's best if I go to destroy the manufacturing complex alone."

No one spoke for a moment but he earnestly prayed that they accepted this. Since it meant he could work towards capturing Dreykal by utilizing all his power without anyone knowing.

As for their mission? It was just a secondary goal to him that he will fulfil if it is convenient — it was not something he must do.
