Chapter 1 - Lost in Thought

I lead a simple life in Madagascar. The first thing that comes to mind is often the movie. However, I reside on the edge of the Indian Ocean, a mere mile from a remarkable rocky outcrop that offers a breathtaking view of the ocean. My preferred time to visit this location is at dawn, when the water is bathed in a harmonious blend of pink, yellow and orange hues. At that moment, the sun is positioned halfway beneath the surface. No photograph or painting can ever fully capture the scene. Nevertheless, I persist in my efforts to do so. I would sit there for hours, meticulously adjusting the colours to perfectly capture the scenery. It was during these moments that I experienced profound peace. Even at midday, the scenery was almost equally stunning. I am considering experimenting with a new painting technique. As I had previously told myself, perhaps a change in approach would finally yield the desired result. I was so close! Suddenly, a high, nasal voice interrupted my thoughts. "Evie! Are you even listening to me?! Pay attention!" I snapped back to attention. It was only my twin sister, Isabelle, but everyone calls her Bella. I tend to refer to her as Bells to provoke her. Despite our identical nature, we are polar opposites in every way, from our talents to our appearances. Our mother is albino, and I inherited her pale skin and a shade of blonde hair that almost appeared white. I bore no resemblance to my father, who had departed years ago. My sister expressed a wish that we had been identical twins, but she resembles her father far more, with her tanned skin and deep blue eyes that seem to pierce the depths of the ocean. She was beautiful and adored, while I remained the background, overshadowed by her celebrity status and centre stage. Her wavy brown hair bounces as she shakes her head at me. "Honestly, Evie. What will I do with you? Class is over, and you are simply sitting there, staring into space. Do you not wish to return home? No, don't blink stupidly at me. Hello?"
