Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: Reborn in Flames

"Boss, Boss, Team A brought out Specialist Li and his whole family."

"Get them on the bus. Where to next?" the man asked, glancing down at his watch.

Baby Face tapped his phone open. "Next stop is Shunfengli District. It should take about fifteen minutes to get there."

A large bus pulled up steadily beside them. The driver opened the door, jumped out into the rain, and wiped his face. "Boss, Specialist Li and his family are all on board and safe."

"Right. Let's move," the man said, grinding a smoldering cigarette butt under his heel.

Just as he turned to board, he heard Baby Face yell, "Whoa, whoa! Oh my god, who's that? Is that the young lady from just now?"

Everyone on the bus rushed to the windows on the left, their faces paling as they cried out in terror, "Driver, go! Get us out of here!"

Through the curtain of rain, they saw a small sedan speeding out of the district entrance.

Trailing it was a massive horde of lurching, swaying rotting corpses. They weren't fast, but their numbers were staggering.

At a glance, there were at least a hundred of them slowly giving chase.

Xie Ning drove up beside a seven-seater van and stopped.

Song Kexin looked completely bewildered.

Without wasting a word, Xie Ning hustled her out of the car, grabbed their luggage, and moved it to the nearby van.

Baby Face ran toward her through the rain. "Miss, what are you doing? You need to go, now!"

Xie Ning walked around the car, opened the gas cap, and inserted a plastic tube into the tank.

"Miss, you're— You're trying to siphon the gas?" Baby Face glanced through the misty rain at the horde of rotting corpses advancing toward the gate.

"Run for your life!" 'She's way too calm!'

"You're a Superpower User, right?"

"Huh?" Baby Face's shouting stopped short.

"Can you lift it?" Xie Ning asked, pointing at the beat-up little car. With swift, practiced movements, she siphoned half the gas into a jerry can.

"I... I can't. My brother probably can, though."

As he spoke, his brother was already approaching. Through the hazy rain, Baby Face could see his brother's expression was grim.

Xie Ning's head was still spinning, and a hazy red tinge clouded her vision.

"You're in no condition to drive," the man said in a deep voice. "Come with us."

"Thanks, I appreciate the offer. But it looks like you have important business to attend to, so I won't get in your way."

Xie Ning looked up. The horde of rotting corpses ahead was swelling, having reached the district gate and now ready to pour out.

"Help me." The instant Xie Ning lit the beat-up little car on fire without a second thought, Baby Face's jaw dropped, but his brother reacted in a flash, kicking out with his leg.

The fiercely burning car was sent flying toward the district entrance by the man's kick, crashing heavily into the middle of the horde.

The flames raged and spread, crushing countless rotting corpses under the car and burning them to ash.

Both Baby Face and Song Kexin instinctively flinched back.

Through the roaring flames, Xie Ning picked up the jerry can from the ground, turned, and gave the man a long, meaningful look.

Then she quickly jumped into the van, slammed the accelerator to the floor, and drove off with Song Kexin, the seven-seater vanishing from the sight of Baby Face and his brother.

Baby Face's jaw hung open. "Whoa... My god. That lady is so badass."

'She torched her own car without batting an eye. If his brother hadn't been so quick on his feet, she might've taken them out with it…'

The man raised an eyebrow. In the flickering firelight, his handsome features took on a cool, detached glint.
