Chapter 1 - CHAPTER 1: HIM

it was a rainy day at night. Thalassa trembled slightly as she held the cup with both hands. Rain drummed against the large window with red curtain decorations, as Thalassa watched it. It was a perfect night for overthinking.

Thalassa took a sip of the hot mocha in her hands before slowly putting the cup down. Her breath was shaky from the cold weather. Her eyes turned back to her phone again soon after.

a notification from her class group, sending another assignment that needed to be completed by Tuesday. Thalassa sighed heavily before mumbling softly.

"How many assignments will Ms. Kailey give me…"

then, her sentence was suddenly cut by a voice. a familiar, yet distant voice. Thalassa looked at the guy leaning against the wooden door of the living room.

"You should really stop drinking that."

"It messes with your sleep."

Darien said, his voice steady and calm. He crossed his arms as his light blue eyes stayed intensely fixed on Thalassa.

Thalassa's eyes met Darien's intense gaze, her throat tightening instantly before she broke eye contact. Thalassa responded in a shaky but calm tone.

"How do you know about that?"

Thalassa asked. Their tones were calm, making the living room feel even quieter, as if it echoed through their voices. Darien slowly walked toward Thalassa before sitting next to her, crossing his legs as his fingers ran through his midnight-blue hair.

Darien remained silent, ignoring Thalassa's question as he slowly took her cup of mocha and took a sip of it. He just smiled softly as he spoke.

"It's nice, no wonder you like it."

Thalassa scoffed quietly, her eyes slowly turning to the TV hanging on the wall that had been a background noise. She changed the channel to the news. Her eyes lit up in an instant.

it was a glimpse of a figure that somehow felt familiar. Her eyes stayed glued to the smart TV screen as the blonde-haired reporter spoke in a steady, slow voice.

"Breaking news, the CEO of the new Canada Company has been doing charity work silently."

The reporter took a breath, her eyes looking at the script in her hands before speaking again in a professional tone.

"His actions are rising a lot of attention from citizens and other companies, making him more loved by people across the world, ..."

Thalassa's eyes lingered on the screen, widening slightly. Her pupils were visibly dilated as her eyes caught a glimpse of the black-haired figure.

She instinctively glanced at Darien. Her chest tightened at Darien's unusual expression. That calm face was now guarded. A vague memory popped into her brain, just a fogged memory that Thalassa couldn't remember.

It didn't last a second before Darien reached for the TV remote. Then he turned off the TV.

Thalassa's eyes widened in surprise before she spoke with a hint of confusion and quiet anger.

"Brother, why did you turn it off?"

Darien didn't respond, but his light blue eyes darkened. Then he leaned back slightly, resting both of his legs on the couch.

"Silence, Thalassa"

Darien's voice remained calm, but it felt more firm this time. Thalassa furrowed her eyebrows. She wanted to argue back, but seeing Darien's darkened eyes made her hands shake with a fear she couldn't describe.

"... aight"

a short answer, more like a quiet mumble she said to herself. Thalassa stood up, then walked away before grabbing her jacket that she had hung on the wall. Darien wanted to stop her,

but he didn't.

he just watched Thalassa walk away. He wanted to apologize, but he couldn't. Thalassa walked toward the door of the entrance, closing it. it was… rougher than she intended.

the door led to the bridge that connected to the stairs. Thalassa walked down the stairs, clenching her fist a bit too tightly. She slowly opened another grand door that led to the garden.

Thalassa's maid, Brittney, was busy talking with other maids in the garden. her eyes caught Thalassa walking with a frowned face. Brittney instinctively walked away to grab an umbrella before running toward Thalassa.

She opened the umbrella before placing it above Thalassa's head.

Thalassa pulled out her phone before dialing her driver's number. She opened the front door, her eyes only darting to her screen. She then texted Ivy.

"Ivy, let's meet at the usual cafe."

Thalassa hit the send button, then slid her phone back into her pocket. Her hands tucked inside her thick jacket. Brittney stood behind her, holding the umbrella so Thalassa wouldn't get wet.

"Young Miss Thalassa…"

Brittney hesitated before she spoke.

"Is Young Master bothering you again?"

Thalassa didn't respond. she just looked down and nodded slightly, enough for Brittney to understand. Brittney looked at the nearby butler; the car would soon arrive at the gate.

Brittney slowly led Thalassa to the front gate. Thalassa could see the black Audi r8 coming closer. The gate opened automatically, letting the car enter the garden road. then Thalassa walked toward it.

The maid opened the door for Thalassa, while keeping the umbrella near her head. Thalassa sat on the left side of the back seat before the maid closed the door. she walked away. Thalassa's voice sliced through the silence.

"Cafe, like usual."

She spoke with a hint of annoyance from the earlier conversation with Darien. Thalassa's light blue eyes remained on the view outside.

The driver pressed the accelerator, slowly moving forward before gradually increasing speed. Rain drummed against the tinted windows as they moved.

The atmosphere of the interaction still lingered on Thalassa's face. Was she just a bit too overreacting? Thalassa shook her head slightly. Her reaction was normal.

Thalassa thought to herself, suddenly remembering her grandparents' words. Darien is the perfect brother anyone could wish for. Thalassa scoffed lightly.

"perfect brother, yeah."

Thalassa mumbled quietly, more like making fun of the comment. It's the truth..

That Thalassa always denied.
