Kanto Region. Pallet Town: where the story begins.
"Ryu! You'd better get up if you don't want to be late for receiving your Pokémon!" Ryu's mother called him enthusiastically.
"I'm getting ready, Mom! I'll be down in a minute!" Ryu replied hurriedly, as he put on his shirt and pants, still somewhat sleepy.
When he looked out the window, he saw the first rays of sunlight illuminating the tranquil Pallet Town, with the chirping of Pidgeys mingling with the fresh smell of the morning. It was the day he had been waiting for so long; finally, Ryu would become a Pokémon Trainer.
He was an ordinary boy, but he had something that made him special: memories of a previous life, where he was a big fan of the Pokémon world. He watched all the anime episodes, played the games, and collected cards. Now, reincarnated in this magical world, he had the chance to live his own adventure.
He rushed down the stairs and found his mother in the kitchen, preparing a delicious breakfast.
"Here it is! A special plate for you, Ryu. You need energy for your first day. And don't forget to take a look at your Pokédex!" she said, with an encouraging smile.
Unlike what was shown in the anime and games, Ryu had already received his Pokédex right after finishing the Pokémon Trainer preparatory school. But that wasn't all; the path to becoming a trainer was stricter. The minimum age to start was 14 years, instead of 10, and that made complete sense; no responsible parent would let their children travel alone so early.
In Kanto, obtaining one of the three official starter Pokémon - Charmander, Squirtle, or Bulbasaur - was a rite of passage, but it was not so simple. A considerable registration fee had to be paid to the Pokémon League along with an official recommendation from a local Professor.
There was also another way to obtain a starter Pokémon: being one of the three best students in the region, which required a lot of effort and dedication over four years. Those who couldn't achieve this rank received Pokémon based on their placements or could be sponsored by a breeder.
Ryu nodded and took a fork to serve himself. "Thank you, Mom! I won't forget my Pokédex." After breakfast, he rushed upstairs to grab his backpack. The anxiety increased with every passing second.
He looked at himself in the mirror, fixed his hair, and checked if everything was alright. He was truly ready. He took one last look at his backpack and checked everything he had gathered over the years in preparation for his journey.
Doing a quick inventory, he saw the items he was carrying: 10 Poké Balls, 10 Potions, 10 Antidotes, 20 Repels, 2 Hyper Potions (a prize for first place), 1 camping tent, 1 cooking kit with pots and utensils, 1 lighter, and 1 Super Rod.
The reason he could carry all this in a backpack is that technology is highly advanced in the Pokémon world. The Poké Balls, for example, shrink Pokémon from tons to the size of a baseball. The backpack works the same way, using compression technology or digital storage.
With one last look at the house that had always been his home, Ryu stepped out and felt the cool breeze on his face as he walked through the quiet streets of Pallet Town. The path to Professor Oak's laboratory was familiar, but this time, each step brought a mix of anticipation and excitement. Memories of his previous life blended with dreams of what was to come, and he couldn't help but wonder what adventures awaited him. After all, he was about to embark on a journey that promised to be as thrilling as any of the games and series he had devoured.
Upon arriving at the laboratory, adrenaline surged through him. A small group of neighbors and family friends was gathered outside Professor Oak's Laboratory.
As Ryu approached, a warm wave of applause and cheers erupted. In a small town like Pallet, the departure of each new trainer was a celebration, a moment of shared pride. After some quick greetings, Ryu entered the laboratory, where two other trainers were already waiting for him: Gary Oak and a girl with kind eyes, long brown hair tied under a white and red cap, a light blue shirt, a red skirt, and a yellow shoulder bag. It was Leaf, a dear friend Ryu had made in school.
"Look who showed up!" Leaf said, arms crossed with a teasing smile. "I never thought I'd see the day you'd be late. The first-place takes his time?"
"To start with, I'm not late. You guys arrived too early," Ryu replied, smiling, used to these jibes.
"Sure, sure," Gary said, a smug grin on his face; the typical rivalry between them was evident. "I guess your honored place was reserved for you, Ryu."
"Meanwhile, I arrived here ready to be the best trainer, and you, Gary?" Leaf said, looking at him playfully. "Did you manage to prepare or are you still daydreaming?"
Gary made a dismissive gesture and replied: "I hope your luck doesn't run out fast. And speaking of which, have you decided which Pokémon you're going to choose, Ryu?"
"Relax, don't spoil the surprise," he replied, already familiar with Gary's impulsive nature.
"And isn't Ash going to show up?" Leaf asked, looking around for their friend.
Gary gestured with his hands: "I don't know why I'm still surprised by that idiot!"
"He'll be here!" Ryu replied, already knowing how the story would end.
The laboratory was a vibrant place full of life. Scientific equipment was everywhere, and various Pokémon could be seen in aquariums and enclosures. Every corner of the lab seemed to tell a story about trainers and their journeys.
Professor Oak entered the room, bringing a warm smile. "Welcome," he said, turning to the young trainers. "Are you ready for your journeys?"
"Yes, Professor!" they exclaimed in unison, excitement filling the air.
"You can bet on it, Grandpa!" Gary replied with a confident smile.
"Great! It's time for you to choose your partners for your journeys!" the Professor said, approaching the table where three Poké Balls were arranged, waiting for their choice.
The big moment was approaching, and Ryu knew that the decision he made there would change his life forever.
With bated breath, he looked at the Poké Balls; the possibilities were endless, and each choice brought its advantages. Ryu recalled what he had learned: each Pokémon had its own talents, and his future team would be determined by the choice he was about to make.
The laboratory fell silent; all eyes were on him. The tension was palpable, and Ryu felt the whole world was waiting for his decision.
He closed his eyes for a moment, took a deep breath, and finally extended his hand, determined to take the first step on his new adventure!
The life of a Pokémon Train
er was about to begin, and he was determined to make it unforgettable!
