Chapter 1 - The Silence of the Mountain

The wind blew gently that day, calm and indifferent, as if the world did not acknowledge the pain that filled that place. At the center of the Yamanaka Clan, a small crowd gathered in silence, faces heavy, eyes lowered, while grief hung thick in the air. Among them, there was only one figure who stood apart: a boy too young to fully understand death, yet still feeling it profoundly. Shin Yamanaka, only three years old, remained motionless.

His body was frail, fragile even, but that was not what drew attention. It was his eyes. There were no tears, no despair, not even confusion. Only a silent void that unsettled more than any cry ever could. The clan members whispered among themselves, trying to interpret that unusual reaction, some approaching with words they thought would bring comfort, but which vanished before even reaching him.

They said everything would be alright, that he was not alone, that time would heal the pain, but none of those words found a response. Shin did not react, did not look, did not even show that he was listening. It was as if he were elsewhere, lost somewhere inside himself, where no one else could reach.

Then softer steps approached, different from the others, carrying a warmer presence. The clan leader's wife knelt before him, her gentle face contrasting with the weight of the moment. One of her hands rested on her belly, protecting the life growing inside. She watched Shin for a few seconds before speaking, as if searching for the right words for someone so small and, at the same time, already so distant.

She spoke his name softly and, with a tone full of affection, told him she knew it hurt, but that he needed to be strong. She said he was not alone and that the clan would be there for him whenever he needed. Her voice carried no command, only care. Still, there was no response. Shin remained motionless, not lifting his gaze, not changing his expression. To anyone watching, it seemed as if he hadn't heard.

But inside him, something stirred.

The words were not ignored. They echoed, repeating in a silent space where there was nothing but fragmented thoughts and a vague sense of loss. "You need to be strong." The phrase repeated, clearer each time, more present, until it overlaid everything else.

His eyes, once lost, began to change, almost imperceptibly. There was no visible emotion, no external reaction, but something was taking shape inside, something organizing itself. Confusion gave way to a simple, direct, absolute idea.

He needed to be strong.

Not as a wish, but as a necessity.

Not as a choice, but as a truth.

Without tears, without screams, without fully understanding what he had lost, Shin Yamanaka made a decision that would shape his entire existence. As the wind continued to blow and the clan remained in mourning, something silent was born in that instant, something unnoticed, yet carrying immense weight.

A mind that would never allow itself to be weak.
