Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: The Monster Within

The forest had never known silence like this before.

Moments ago, it had been alive—breathing, whispering, watching.

Now?

It was drenched in death.

Blood soaked the earth.

Bodies lay scattered like broken dolls, their limbs twisted unnaturally, their eyes frozen in terror. The scent of iron hung thick in the air, mixing with something far more dangerous—

Power.

Raw. Uncontrolled. Terrifying power.

At the center of it all…

Stood Emmanuel.

His massive wolf form towered above the carnage, his chest rising and falling with slow, heavy breaths. Crimson eyes glowed in the darkness, no longer just fierce—but unstable.

Wild.

Lost.

He didn't recognize what he had done.

But his body did.

And it wasn't done yet.

A faint movement.

One survivor.

The man—the one who had first shifted—struggled to crawl away, his body broken, his confidence shattered.

This wasn't supposed to happen.

They had hunted rogues before.

They had killed threats before.

But this?

This was no rogue.

This was a disaster.

"…monster…" he coughed, dragging himself through the blood-soaked leaves.

Behind him…

A low growl responded.

He froze.

Slowly…

He turned.

Emmanuel stood there.

Watching him.

Each step Emmanuel took was heavy, deliberate, final.

The ground seemed to tremble beneath him.

"Wait…" the man stammered, fear finally taking over his pride. "We can—"

Too late.

In a flash, Emmanuel's claws pierced through his chest.

Clean.

Brutal.

Unavoidable.

The man's eyes widened as blood filled his mouth.

"…Alpha…" he whispered weakly.

Then—

Silence.

Emmanuel let the body fall.

And just like that…

It was over.

The entire pack… wiped out.

But the real battle?

Had just begun.

Emmanuel staggered.

His breathing grew erratic.

His claws dug into the ground as a sudden wave of pain surged through him.

"ARRRGHHHH!!"

The roar that escaped him was no longer dominant.

It was tortured.

His body began to shake violently.

The power inside him—whatever it was—was no longer just awake.

It was fighting him.

Visions flooded his mind.

Not memories.

Not dreams.

Something else.

Ancient wolves.

Endless wars.

Kings bowing.

Bloodlines rising… and falling.

A throne.

Made of bones.

And on it…

Him.

"No…" Emmanuel growled, clutching his head with clawed hands. "Get out of my head!"

But the voice didn't stop.

It was deep.

Echoing.

Commanding.

"You cannot run from what you are."

"SHUT UP!!"

He slammed his fist into the ground, cracking the earth beneath him.

The voice grew stronger.

"You were not born to hide…"

"…you were born to rule."

Emmanuel's eyes flared brighter.

The crimson glow intensified until it almost burned.

For a moment…

Something inside him… answered.

And that terrified him more than anything.

"I'm not…" he panted, shaking his head violently. "I'm not a monster…"

But the blood around him told a different story.

His gaze slowly dropped to his hands.

Claws.

Dripping.

Red.

His breath hitched.

"I… did this…"

For the first time since the transformation—

He felt it.

Not power.

Not rage.

Guilt.

Deep.

Crushing.

Unavoidable.

His body began to shrink.

Bones cracked again.

Muscles tore and reformed.

The transformation reversed.

Minutes later…

Emmanuel lay naked on the cold forest floor, his human form restored—but far from whole.

His body was covered in blood.

Some his.

Most… not.

He stared blankly at the sky.

The red moon still watched him.

Unforgiving.

"…what am I becoming…?" he whispered.

No answer came.

Only the wind.

But far away…

Someone felt it.

Fiyinfoluwa.

She stood outside her house now, barefoot on the cool ground, her eyes fixed on the distant horizon.

Her chest rose and fell rapidly, her heartbeat refusing to calm.

Something had changed.

Irreversibly.

"I can feel him…" she whispered, confused.

She placed a hand over her heart.

It was racing.

Not from fear.

Not exactly.

From connection.

Tears formed in her eyes.

"…why does it hurt?"

She didn't understand it.

How could she?

She had never seen Emmanuel.

Never spoken to him.

And yet…

Her soul felt tied to his.

A sudden gust of wind wrapped around her.

Soft.

But heavy with meaning.

A whisper followed.

"Mine…"

Fiyin froze.

Her eyes widened.

"…who said that?"

No one was there.

But the feeling remained.

Strong.

Possessive.

Dangerous.

She hugged herself tightly.

For the first time in her life…

She felt like she was no longer alone.

And she didn't know if that was a blessing…

Or a curse.

Back in the forest—

Emmanuel slowly pushed himself up, wincing as pain shot through his body.

But something was different now.

The power inside him had quieted.

Not gone.

Just…

Waiting.

His eyes, now human again, scanned the destruction around him.

"I can't stay here…" he muttered.

Because deep down—

He knew.

This was only the beginning.

Others would come.

Stronger.

Deadlier.

More prepared.

And next time?

It wouldn't just be wolves.

It would be Alphas.

Hunting him.

Or worse…

Trying to control him.

Emmanuel clenched his fists.

A new resolve forming in his chest.

"If I'm really a monster…"

His eyes hardened.

"Then I'll decide what kind."

The wind howled again.

But this time—

It didn't sound like a warning.

It sounded like…

A declaration.

The rise of a ruler had begun.
