"W-What?"
After the long silence that followed Damon's words, Jacob finally managed to break the heavy atmosphere between them.
His voice trembles, and his heart beats too loudly in his chest.
"You heard me, Jacob," Damon said, as if there was nothing wrong with what he had just confessed a few seconds ago.
Jacob, on the other hand, could barely keep himself standing properly. It felt like his entire body had suddenly gone weak, making his knees tremble slightly beneath him.
He didn't know what he was supposed to feel.
He didn't know if hearing those words from Damon should make him happy… or terrified.
For one brief second, his heart skipped painfully inside his chest. But just as quickly as hope tried to bloom within him, reality crashed down again.
Jacob slowly lowered his gaze and released a deep sigh before avoiding Damon's eyes.
