Morning came slowly.
Stephanie and Maya had barely slept, but when the first rays of sunlight slipped through the thin curtains of the motel room, both girls were already awake.
For a moment, they simply sat quietly.
The reality of their situation still felt heavy.
But something had changed.
They had made it through the night.
And they were still together.
Stephanie reached for the envelope on the table and opened it again, carefully counting the money inside.
Maya watched her.
"How much is left?" she asked.
"Enough to help us start again," Stephanie replied.
Maya gave a small hopeful smile.
Later that morning, they left the motel and walked through the nearby streets of the small town.
The town was quiet.
Nothing like the glamorous areas Vanessa had taken them to before.
But somehow, it felt safer.
They asked around until they finally found a small apartment building at the edge of the village.
The building was old but clean.
The landlady, an elderly woman, looked at them carefully before showing them a small room upstairs.
It wasn't luxurious.
Just a small kitchen, a simple bathroom, and one bedroom.
But it was theirs.
After paying the rent for the first few months using part of the money Adrian had given Stephanie, the girls finally sat on the floor of their new apartment.
The room was nearly empty.
But it felt like freedom.
Maya leaned back against the wall.
"So… what now?"
Stephanie thought quietly for a moment.
"We need a way to make money."
Maya nodded.
"But doing what?"
They began listing different ideas.
Cleaning jobs.
Selling clothes.
Working in shops.
But none of the options seemed stable enough.
Then suddenly, Maya sat up.
"Wait."
Stephanie looked at her.
"What?"
Maya's eyes lit up.
"The restaurant."
Stephanie blinked.
"What about it?"
Maya smiled slightly.
"We actually learned a lot there."
Stephanie thought about it.
Cooking.
Serving customers.
Managing small orders quickly.
They had spent months learning everything without even realizing it.
"You're thinking…" Stephanie began.
Maya finished her sentence.
"A small fast food stand."
Stephanie looked thoughtful.
"By the roadside."
Maya nodded excitedly.
"We could sell simple food. Things people buy quickly."
Stephanie slowly began to smile.
It wasn't a perfect plan.
But it was something.
"We could start small," Stephanie said.
"Very small."
Maya laughed softly.
"Well… we're already starting from nothing."
Stephanie looked around their tiny apartment.
Then back at Maya.
"This might actually work."
For the first time in days, hope slowly began to grow inside the small room.
They had lost everything.
But now…
They were building something of their own.
