Chapter 45 - The Unexpected Reunion

Adrian had barely been back in the country for two days.

After completing his final year at University of Cambridge, he had returned home with a clear mind and a stronger sense of purpose.

His parents were proud.

His future was already being discussed within the family business.

But before anything serious began, his grandparents' close friends had insisted he visit a small food place they recently discovered.

"You must try it," the elderly woman had told him warmly.

"The girls there cook the most wonderful native food."

Adrian had laughed.

"Alright, I'll give it a try."

That afternoon, his driver stopped in front of a small but lively food shop in a quiet town.

Adrian stepped out of the car and walked inside.

The smell of fresh food filled the air immediately.

The place was simple but warm, with several customers already eating and chatting happily.

Adrian walked toward the counter.

"Good afternoon," a familiar voice said.

He looked up.

And froze.

Standing behind the counter…

Was Stephanie.

For a moment, neither of them spoke.

Stephanie's eyes widened in shock.

"Adrian?"

He stared at her as if trying to confirm she was real.

"You…"

He let out a small breath of disbelief.

"What are you doing here?"

Stephanie couldn't help but laugh nervously.

"I should be asking you the same thing."

Adrian shook his head slowly.

"I thought you went back to Los Angeles."

Maya walked out from the kitchen just then.

When she saw Adrian, she also looked surprised.

"Oh."

Adrian looked between the two girls.

"What happened?"

The question carried genuine concern.

Stephanie hesitated for a moment.

Then she sighed.

"Sit down."

A few minutes later, the three of them sat at a small table in the corner of the shop.

Stephanie and Maya told him everything.

About Vanessa.

About the hotel.

About leaving with nothing.

About starting the roadside food stand.

And how it slowly became this small restaurant.

Adrian listened quietly the entire time.

His expression grew darker the more he heard.

When they finished, he leaned back in his chair.

"That woman is unbelievable."

Maya shook her head.

"We were lucky we left when we did."

Adrian looked around the restaurant again.

Customers were eating happily.

The place was full of life.

Then he looked back at Stephanie.

"I have to admit something."

"What?" she asked.

"When I couldn't reach you before… I thought you had simply disappeared."

Stephanie smiled faintly.

"In a way, we did."

Adrian shook his head slowly, still amazed.

"Of all the places I expected to find you…"

He glanced around the room again.

"This wasn't one of them."

Stephanie laughed softly.

"Life is strange like that."

Adrian smiled.

"Yes."

"Yes it is."
