Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: The Awakening Ceremony

The courtyard vibrated with tension. Hundreds of students pressed against the wooden barricades, their eyes glinting with excitement, curiosity, or malice. Today was the day the school separated the ordinary from the extraordinary: the Awakening Ceremony. It was the moment every student lived for, feared, or despised.

The announcer's voice boomed, carrying authority over the restless crowd.

"First… Ren Yinian!"

The name spread like wildfire. Gasps and whispers followed. "The Knight of the Apocalypse… S-Rank! He's incredible!"

Ren Yinian stepped forward, every movement deliberate, commanding. Golden light shimmered faintly around him. His aura exuded calm power, yet beneath that confidence lay a promise of unmatched strength. The crowd's admiration turned to awe as the ritual began.

A pillar of light shot into the sky, surrounding him. The silence was deafening, every eye trained on him. Then, as if the heavens themselves had approved, the light flared brilliantly and stabilized. Ren Yinian had succeeded. Applause thundered across the courtyard, both awe-struck and envious. He was the star everyone had anticipated—untouchable, unstoppable.

Then the next name rang out:

"Wang Chen."

The crowd's mood shifted instantly. Whispers turned cruel.

"The cripple? He thinks he can awaken?"

"He'll just embarrass himself. Pathetic."

Wang Chen's jaw tightened. He felt the sting of years in a single glance. Three years ago, a car accident had shattered his family, leaving him disabled. Every step since had been survival. Every word from the crowd felt like a knife.

But he did not hesitate. His hands clenched into fists. His heartbeat thrummed like a war drum.

"I… must awaken," he whispered, teeth gritted. "For my family, for my future."

He stepped into the ceremonial circle. The air thickened, heavy with divine presence. Shadows twisted unnaturally, the world seeming to hold its breath.

"Human… offer your heart," a voice boomed, ethereal and chilling.

Light surged. His body tensed—but instead of flowing, the awakening faltered. Wang Chen fell to his knees. The air seemed to mock him. The audience laughed, a cruel, sharp chorus: "Pathetic! A failure!"

Humiliation burned hotter than any physical pain. He felt the sting in every nerve; every eye on him a gash. Yet beneath the shame, a fire ignited.

"No… I will not fail!" he shouted, his voice cracking. "I offer myself to the Mechanical God's Heart!"

Metallic resonance pulsed beneath his skin. The sound was deep, alive, mechanical—and something inside him surged. Light erupted in jagged, chaotic arcs, blinding and magnificent. The crowd froze. The weak, pitiful boy had transformed into a force of awe.

Ren Yinian approached, astonishment softening his features. "You… did it," he said.

Wang Chen barely nodded, gasping. "It… it's real. I awakened—but not like anyone expected."

Above, the sky shimmered with divine energy, signaling that the balance of power had shifted. The faint metallic heartbeat of the Mechanical God's Heart resonated in the air. Wang Chen had stepped onto a path that would test his strength, his will, and his soul.

The crowd remained silent, unsure whether to cheer or flee. The once-dismissed student had become a harbinger of chaos, hope, and vengeance.

And in that moment, Wang Chen understood one truth: his journey had only begun.
