Chapter 1 - Chapter 1:The Day Their Paths Crossed.

The first time Ariana saw Jeremiah, the world felt strangely quiet.

It was a warm afternoon at the university library, the kind of afternoon where sunlight spilled through tall windows and painted golden lines across the wooden tables. Ariana had come there to escape the noise of campus life. Books had always been her safe place.

She was reaching for a novel on the top shelf when another hand reached for the same book.

Their fingers brushed.

"Sorry," the deep voice said quickly.

Ariana looked up.

For a moment, she forgot how to breathe.

Jeremiah stood in front of her, tall and calm, with warm brown eyes that held a quiet kind of kindness. He smiled awkwardly, still holding the book halfway between them.

"I think we have the same taste in stories," he said.

Ariana laughed softly. "Seems like it."

He handed her the book instead of taking it.

"You can have it," he said. "I've already read it anyway."

"Then why were you reaching for it?" she asked.

Jeremiah shrugged with a playful grin. "Maybe I was hoping to start a conversation."

That simple sentence made her heart skip.

They sat together at a nearby table, talking about books, music, and dreams that felt too big for the small campus around them. Hours passed without either of them noticing.

Something about Jeremiah felt familiar to Ariana, as if she had known him long before that afternoon.

And Jeremiah felt it too.

When the library lights flickered, signaling closing time, they both looked at each other with the same reluctant smile.

"Guess this is goodbye," Ariana said.

Jeremiah shook his head.

"Not goodbye," he replied softly. "Just the beginning."

Neither of them knew then how deeply their lives would become connected.

Or how fate would soon try to pull them apart.

But in that moment, sitting beneath the fading sunlight, Ariana and Jeremiah were already tied in a way neither of them could explain.
