"The Godly Guardian System selected you as the new operator of Guardian Unit G-01."
Arin looked around the enormous base again.
"And you called me… Commander."
"That is your designation."
"Guardian operators are commanders of the planetary defense network."
Arin blinked several times.
Planetary defense?
That sounded far bigger than just fighting random Titans.
"Wait," he said.
"How many Guardians are there?"
Astra answered immediately.
"Original number: 300."
Arin's eyes widened.
"Three hundred?!"
Astra's voice softened slightly.
"Current operational units…"
There was a pause.
"…One."
Arin slowly turned to look at the Guardian he was sitting in.

The Titan War
Arin stood up from the cockpit seat.
"Explain everything."
Astra's holographic projection expanded.
Dozens of screens appeared in the air around him.

"Thousands of years ago," Astra continued, "an advanced civilization created the Guardian system to defend Earth from Titan extinction events."

"Extinction events?"
"Titans are deployed periodically to reset developing civilizations."
The words hit Arin like a hammer.
"You're saying… someone sends Titans to wipe out planets?"
"Correct."
Arin stared at the screens in disbelief.
"Then who created them?"
Astra's voice grew serious.
"The answer to that question is classified."
But the system had already given Arin a hint earlier.

Something powerful enough to control creatures that could destroy worlds.
