Shortly after Candace had left, Theodore had left as well.

Familiar faces filled every nook and cranny of the ballroom.
"Eve, dear." Came Lady Shirley, her mother's long time friend. "I had to come the moment I heard you were finally getting engaged. You don't look a day older than how you did when you attended your first season." The pretty, elderly woman said as they blew kisses on each other's cheeks.
Eve smiled at the compliment. It was all she ever heard… but there was no way of telling which was real from what was not.
The only compliment that she knew would only be genuine would be one from Theodore himself.
He barely ever said pleasant things about anything generally, which made the little things he said all the more precious to her.
