The sea had always whispered secrets to Aarav.
Ever since he was a child growing up in a small coastal village, he would sit on the rocks and watch the waves crash against the shore. The fishermen often spoke of a mysterious island that appeared only during certain tides — an island no one dared to visit.
They called it Black Island.
Most people believed it was cursed.
Aarav believed it was waiting.
Chapter 1: The Map in the Bottle
One evening, after a violent storm had swept across the coast, Aarav was walking along the beach when something unusual caught his eye.
A glass bottle.
It was wedged between two rocks, half-buried in wet sand. Inside the bottle was a rolled piece of paper.
With trembling hands, Aarav broke it open.
It was a map.
The paper was old, stained, and fragile. At the bottom corner, in faded ink, were three words:
"When the tide retreats."
The map showed the coastline — his coastline — and just beyond it, a small dark patch marked with an X.
Black Island.
His heart pounded. The fishermen had said the island appeared only when the tide pulled back farther than usual.
And tomorrow, the tide was predicted to be the lowest of the year.
