Chapter 9 - A budding friendship

Mist Border

A black crow let out a loud caw and descended from the sky to land near a young man's tent.

The crow waddled over towards the tent flap and clawed it open before flying in.

The crow began circling the room stopping whenever it noticed something shiny and began to peck at it.

Not much later a young man walked in, looking around to see the mess the crow had made Shisui sighed. "Roku should discipline you guys more often, my crows are much better". The crow cawed in outrage and flew on to Shisui's head and began pecking it.

"Ow ow, ok fine I am sorry, you guys are perfectly behaved" He laughed exasperatedly. He smiled slightly, this morning when a messenger arrived to tell them about the nine tails attack, making him spend the entire day soothing other worries and assuring them that their families were fine.

This small episode made the horrible day feel brighter. Then the crow then flew on to his desk to pick up a piece of paper he was sure wasn't there before. It flew back towards him and handed it over.

He opened it and began to read, with each line his face got worse. But then he exhaled.

"So, you were right Roku, the village really does distrust us." He sighed. The letter was short but its words conveyed a deep-seated anger.

"Return immediately, after the nine tails attacked the village, ignored our help in defeating it and continued their old ways. Minato is dead and while his body is still warm the 3rd has risen to power and changed his policy of integration. The Village ordered the clan to gather and relocate to the further edge."

Shisui closed his eyes and his fingers tightened slightly around the letter. He then handed the note to the crow to dispose of, "Roku, why are you always right." He muttered.

He stood there for a long time, contemplating what to do, walking out and looking at the moon. Thinking of him and Roku truly became best friends.

Flashback

They had always known each other. While their families weren't close, his grandfather and Roku's mother were both some of the strongest in the Uchiha. Naori and Kagami were both moderates with the clan, his grandpa even more than her. Both fought for the coexistence of the Uchiha and the village.

They were also 2 of the biggest geniuses within the clan, none of the other peers could challenge them. Their parents had always pushed them to interact, but at the time they were too different. Shisui was a young and kind boy while Roku was calm and had a soul too old for someone so young. While Shisui would play with others, Roku would just keep to himself and train tirelessly.

He had always wondered why he pushed himself so hard, the village was at peace and the war was over there were no enemies to fight. Oh, how wrong he was, just a couple years later when he was 6 the 3rd war started.

Everyone was shocked, there had been a decade in between the first and second great wars but after only 5 years there was another one. This war was even worse than the second, unlike the second which was battle royal and only 3 of the great nations fought all 5 fought in this one and the 4 of them even attacked Konoha at once.

The village was put to the very edge and by the tail end of the war even kids like Roku and him were sent to the battlefield. At just 8 he had killed his first enemy and as he awakened his sharingan. The battlefield was hard, but they rose the ranks sharply.

On the mist battlefield he and Roku became the pride of their clans, reaching jonin strength at just 9. His father had guided him through it all, taking progressively harder missions to push him and save him when it got too hard. All was fine until that day he and his father got called in the clan heads tent.

His grandfather was killed by an Iwa ninja, it crushed his father. He became consumed by revenge without a second thought that very day his father left for the iwa border to get revenge. And died for it. In just a week almost all of his family died, he lost everything.

He felt empty but just as he was being swallowed by the darkness, his older sister "Uchiha Kana" helped him out of it. She had transferred from the sand battlefield to protect him.

She saved him with kindness, she didn't chase revenge, she just stayed by his side. She listened and understood his hardship and taught him how to live again. And slowly he began to smile again, he knew his sister would always be there. But just like always he was wrong.

It was a routine border patrol, the clouds were raining a small drizzle, and it seemed quiet. But it was that seeming peaceful day that would become the worst he ever felt.

The rain stopped and snow began falling from the sky. They were ambushed by a squad of mist ninjas that appeared from nowhere. They were led by Ryu Yuki, the future clan head.

One of the strongest elite jonin, with his bloodline he was basically semi kage. They never stood a chance. His sister knew that, so she ordered him to flee but he froze. He couldn't leave her, he could lose all of his family. But him freezing was all the opportunity they need

Ryu shot a giant ice spike towards him, it was too fast for him to dodge. But he didn't have to dodge because his sister stepped forward.

The spike ripped through her chest, her body fell to the ground and the light left her eyes. Blood painted the snow and something inside Shisui broke apart, His grandpa, father and now his sister, they were all gone.

The world became crimson and his eyes changed from a 3 Tomoe to a shuriken pattern. The Mangekyou Sharingan, an eye not even his father or grandfather ever got and he had it at 10 years old. He was the youngest awakener ever, but inside he would have given up this power in a heartbeat for just another day with his family.

His chakra increased immensely and his aura changed, the attack fled in fear. They felt like they were standing in front of a beast. But Shisui didn't chase them, he collapsed and held his sisters dying body
