Aurelia:
She hummed, low and absent, as though the silence required filling. Her hands slid into the oven gloves with slow movements, opening the oven door and grasping the edges of the cake tin. Taking it out, a glint of pleasure swirled in her golden eyes.
"You've outdone yourself, Aurelia. Quite the skill."
she mumbled to herself, sliding the oven gloves off and taking hold of the knife laid on the counter.
As the blade of the knife neared the cake, its roof cracked open—top to bottom—the hot steam rising into the air.
Her movements halted for a moment.
A soft breath escaped her lips.
Then, she went on and cut the cake.
A few herbal leaves formed from nothingness, swaying in the air and down into her palm. The brown liquid of the tea she had made moments ago rippled in the small cup as she dropped the green leaves in.
"Come along."
Aurelia whispered to the slice of cake and tea, travelling outside with them to sit comfortably at the small tea table positioned at the front porch of her amber-lit house. She leaned back on the white chair, her golden eyes taking a moment to scan the infinite void.
And her gaze lingered a few moments more than normal.
