Chapter 24 - A Billion-Dollar Pauper!

This business card was a Swiss metal card with a black background and gold lettering, inlaid with diamonds. A single set required more than thirty carats of diamonds!

To put it simply, this business card was worth ten thousand dollars!

And business cards could not be printed just once. Horizon Group had specially customized a set for Jeff. The cost of this set alone was probably enough to buy a house in a mid-tier city!

The officer took the business card and was immediately stunned when he saw the sparkling diamonds on it.

And the name on the business card was indeed Jeff Sterling!

The officer looked at the contract again and confirmed that the shares previously held by the president of Horizon Group had indeed been transferred to Jeff.

However, the second officer said, "Could it be fake?"

Contracts and business cards could be forged; it was nothing unusual. After so many years as officers, they had seen it all before.

Jeff smiled and said, "The founder of SkyEye, Dr. Zachary Chase, is my second brother's college classmate. Since I haven't officially taken office yet, I don't want others to find out about me before then, so I asked him to hide my information."

"Since you believe in the data from SkyEye, then I'll have him open it for me for a while."

After Jeff finished speaking, he picked up his phone and made a call.

"Dr. Chase, how have you been lately? Well, the officers in Riverforge want to see my data on SkyEye. Could you open my file for ten minutes?"

After talking with Dr. Chase, Jeff offered the two officers a cup of tea.

Just one minute later, Jeff received a text message, and then he said to the officers:

"You can check it out on SkyEye now."

The officers quickly opened the "SkyEye" app on their phones, entered Horizon Group, and saw Jeff's name first in the company personnel section!

"Jeff Sterling, Chairman of Horizon Group!"

Not only did it have Jeff's name, but it also had his portrait, which matched the man in front of them perfectly!

However, the second officer remained cautious. "Could it have been done by a hacker?"

With numerous hackers online, it was not impossible for someone to tamper with an app and alter the information.

Jeff smiled and said, "I didn't originally intend to flaunt my wealth, but since you still don't believe me, fine then."

Jeff opened the text message page on his phone and handed it to the officers.

They took the phone and saw a transaction notification from a bank:

"Amount: 560,000 dollars, Time: April 20, 14:22, Account: *6582, Type: Quick Pay expenditure."

"Balance: 10,000,000,211 dollars".

When they saw the long string of zeros on the balance, both officers were stunned!

"This is... ten billion dollars!"

It took them a long time to count them all.

This card had been given to Jeff by Butler Vance yesterday, because Jeff and Emily had signed a prenuptial agreement and their assets were separate.

Therefore, after the divorce, Emily was not entitled to inquire about the true assets under Jeff's control.

Jeff looked at the two shocked men and said, "Officers, this is just one of my cards. But the money in this card alone is probably more than half of what the Harper family has, even if they sold all their assets."

Do you think I would steal a watch that's only worth five million dollars?

The two officers then stopped doubting Jeff. They had heard of the Harper family and knew it was just a second-tier family with assets of only a few billion dollars.

Jeff could have ten billion dollars with just one of his cards!

They had so much money; they wouldn't bother stealing from the Harpers!

The lead officer asked curiously, "Mr. Sterling must be the son of a wealthy family, right? Why would you be willing to marry into the Harper family?"

Jeff said helplessly, "It was arranged by my family, and I had no choice in the matter. I hope you two can keep this a secret for me, especially by not telling the Harper family. I don't want to have anything to do with them anymore."

The officer nodded quickly. "Mr. Sterling, rest assured, we will not disclose your privacy to anyone."

"I'm sorry to have disturbed your rest. We should go now."

Jeff also stood up to see them off. "No problem, please take care, both of you."

Two minutes later, the two officers came down from upstairs into the hotel lobby.

Emily Harper and Ryan Caldwell immediately went over.

Ryan noticed that Jeff hadn't followed them down and asked in confusion:

"Officer, why hasn't Jeff come down? Is he resisting arrest? Send more men, armed with guns, and teach this bastard a lesson!"

The lead officer glared at Ryan. "Watch your words! If you swear again, I'll take you back to the station!"

Then he looked at Emily and said, "Mr. Jeff said that he did not take your Harper family's watch. I think you should go back and check again to see if you forgot it somewhere else."

Emily said, "How can you believe what he said! If he didn't steal our things, where would he get the money to stay in a five-star hotel? He's just a pauper type of deliveryman!"

Pauper?

Upon hearing Emily's description of Jeff, both officers were speechless...

Are there really penniless people in this world worth ten billion dollars?
