Chapter 23 - I Am the CEO!

Emily Harper froze on the spot. She suddenly felt she had heard this sentence somewhere before!

Upon closer reflection, just yesterday—around this same time—at The Pinnacle Hotel, Emily had said the exact same thing to Jeff!

Yesterday, Emily and Ryan Caldwell had checked into a hotel room, only to be discovered by Jeff. When Jeff tried to enter and confront them, Emily had told him his feet were not worthy of stepping into a five-star hotel room!

But today, Jeff was not only standing in a five-star hotel room—he was staying there as a guest!

Not only that, he was in the presidential suite, a room Emily had never even stayed in!

Although both were five-star hotels, the room rate at the Four Seasons West Lake was several times higher than at The Pinnacle!

Standing in front of Emily, Jeff suddenly recalled a popular phrase trending on social media lately:

I'm standing right in front of you. How much of me do you actually see? Do I look like I used to?

"Fine, you won't let me in, huh?" Emily became angry after being refused entry. "I was originally going to give you another chance—let you go home, admit your mistake, accept Grandma's punishment, and that would be the end of it."

"Since you don't cherish this opportunity, I'll call the police! Don't blame me for not warning you—stealing five million dollars will get you more than fifteen years in prison!"

"If you kneel down right now..."

Bang!

Before Emily could finish speaking, Jeff closed the door.

"Hmph, taking advantage of my feelings for her, she makes me kneel and apologize all the time. I've really spoiled her these past three years. Why should liking someone mean I have to become so humble!"

Jeff stopped thinking about her and continued drying his hair.

"You..."

Emily was so angry she stomped her feet. She immediately dialed the police, and after reporting the incident at the door of her room, she shouted through the door of the presidential suite, "I called the police, so you can just wait to go to jail!"

Soon, the Harper family also learned that Emily had called the police.

Old Madam Harper was very displeased. "What? Emily called the police? Who told her to call the police? We Harpers handle our own affairs—we don't leave them to others!"

Susan Harper knew that Old Madam Harper always preferred to handle things herself, and fearing she might blame Emily, she quickly said:

"Mom, it must be because Jeff wasn't cooperating that Emily called the police. Besides, Jeff isn't a member of the Harper family anymore, so it's not appropriate to punish him according to family rules."

Old Madam Harper sighed. "Never mind. Maybe Jeff is destined to spend his days in prison."

The Harper family all believed that Jeff would definitely be sentenced.

...

A dozen minutes later, two police officers in uniform arrived at the Four Seasons Hotel West Lake.

Ryan Caldwell and Emily Harper were waiting in the lobby. When they saw the police arrive, Emily immediately stepped forward.

"Officers, you've arrived. I'm the one who called the police."

A police officer asked, "Ms. Emily Harper, right? You said Jeff stole your family's watch, worth five million dollars?"

Emily nodded. "Yes, Jeff was our family's live-in son-in-law. We just got divorced. He stole our watch, sold it, and then booked the presidential suite at this hotel for a week—and even hired prostitutes!"

"Officers, please arrest him immediately!"

The police officer walked to the front desk and said, "Call this guy named Jeff and have him come down here."

The front desk called Jeff's room, but Jeff had just finished showering and fallen asleep, so he didn't hear it.

Emily tried calling Jeff's cell phone, but there was no response.

Emily said, "He must be feeling guilty and doesn't dare to answer the phone!"

"Let's go up and take a look," one of the officers said.

The two police officers took the elevator up by themselves. Ryan didn't want to cause trouble here, so he and Emily waited downstairs.

Bang bang.

Bang bang.

The police knocked on the door several times before Jeff woke up from his sleep and got up to open it.

"Are you Mr. Jeff? May we go in?" the police officer asked.

Jeff knew that Emily had called the police, and smiled. "Okay, please come in."

A police officer introduced himself. "I'm the head of the police station in this area. We received a report from Ms. Emily Harper that you took a watch worth five million dollars from their family. Is that true?"

Jeff answered truthfully, "I have never taken anything from the Harper family."

The officer continued, "Excuse my bluntness, but I heard you were previously a live-in son-in-law of the Harper family, and you didn't have much money. For the past six months, you've only been delivering food. Ms. Harper just said that you didn't receive a single penny of the Harper family's assets in the divorce settlement..."

At this point, even the officer felt a bit of sympathy for Jeff.

The Harper family was so stingy. They had at least a billion dollars in assets; they could at least have given him a few tens of thousands.

The officer said, "Look at this presidential suite. It has a swimming pool, a TV, and so many sofas. The view is also excellent. I heard it costs six thousand dollars a night. You booked it for a week."

"Since you didn't take the watch, where did you get all this money?"

Jeff did not answer directly. He got up and went to the desk inside, took out a contract, and handed it to the officer.

"This is the equity transfer agreement for Horizon Group. I am now the largest shareholder of Horizon Group and the newly appointed chairman. This is my business card!"

Jeff handed the business card bearing the name of the Chairman of Horizon Group to the officer!
