Chapter 30 - Get Out of Here!

Hotel tycoon? Restaurant mogul? Delivery CEO?

Jeff intended to overthrow and annihilate every bigwig who had ruled Riverforge for years!

The first person on his mind was Ryan Caldwell!

The thought of this man brought back Emily Harper's words from yesterday:

"Look at Ryan Caldwell—his family is worth nearly ten billion dollars. How can you, a piece of trash, compare to him?"

Jeff snorted coldly and asked Victoria Lang, "I heard the Caldwell family is a first-tier family in Riverforge, with assets of nearly ten billion dollars?"

Victoria Lang replied, "They used to be considered first-tier. Two years ago they might have been worth tens of billions, but now they've shrunk significantly. Their assets are estimated at only around three billion—not much better than the Harpers."

Recalling Jeff's testimony at the birthday banquet yesterday, accusing Ryan Caldwell and Emily of having an affair, Victoria Lang continued:

"Emily Harper is truly blind! She actually chose that good-for-nothing Ryan Caldwell over you, Chairman Sterling! Once she finds out your true identity, she'll probably regret it to the point of despair."

Thinking of Emily, Jeff still felt a faint pang of sadness—after all, he had loved her for three years!

Victoria Lang went on, "The Harpers recently had a project and wanted to raise seventy million dollars from us. They also gave me a lot of benefits. I will return all the benefits they gave me and tell them not to even dream of cooperating with Horizon anymore!"

Victoria Lang had originally intended to facilitate that cooperation, but now that she knew Jeff's relationship with the Harpers—he was the son-in-law they had divorced—why would he allow any partnership?

Unexpectedly, Jeff said, "You made up a lot of lies about me yesterday, but you didn't say one thing wrong." Jeff kept speaking.

"Work is work, and personal matters are personal. I won't exclude the Harpers from business just because of my past with them."

"Let me see the project proposal." Jeff requested.

Victoria Lang was somewhat surprised. Jeff truly had the demeanor of a great leader.

"Yes, I'll go get it for you right away." Victoria Lang turned to leave.

"Fine, I'll go with you. I'll also take a look at our beautiful Victoria's office and see if it smells as wonderful as you do."

Jeff rose from his chair and followed Victoria Lang.

Meanwhile, Ryan Caldwell remained anxiously in the lobby on the first floor, refusing to leave.

He desperately wanted to go upstairs and see what was happening, but without an access card, he couldn't.

"Oh, isn't this Young Master Caldwell?"

Suddenly, a female employee of Horizon Group walked up to Ryan.

Ryan glanced at her but didn't recognize her.

The woman laughed and said, "Young Master Caldwell, you don't remember me, do you? That's really heartbreaking. That night at LINX bar, you bought me drinks, and then we went to... You really bullied me all night."

Ryan then remembered that this woman was a former casual hookup.

Looking at her mediocre looks and heavy makeup, she was a hundred levels below Emily. Ryan cursed himself inwardly.

Damn, I must have been really drunk that day to accept such trash.

But Ryan still smiled and said, "Oh, I remember—you work at Horizon?"

The woman nodded.

Ryan grabbed her hand. "Take me upstairs quickly—your Ms. Lang's life is in danger!"

One minute later.

Ryan arrived at the floor where Jeff was.

As soon as he stepped out of the elevator, he heard several female employees of Horizon Group whispering excitedly.

"Hey, let me tell you—the moment they saw the chairman, she knelt down! Can you believe it? She knelt down in the very first second!"

Ryan was confused and had no interest in gossiping about Horizon Group's internal affairs, so he stepped forward and asked:

"Where is your Ms. Lang right now?"

The person he asked was Rachel Brooks, Victoria Lang's secretary. "Ms. Lang is in her office. Do you have an appointment, sir?"

Ryan ignored the secretary and rushed into Victoria Lang's vice president's office.

As soon as he opened the door, he saw Jeff was also inside!

Coincidentally, Victoria Lang had just found the Harper family's project proposal and was handing it to Jeff.

But to Ryan, this scene looked exactly like a chairman assigning tasks to his assistant.

"Jeff, you shameless abandoned son-in-law and thief! You were here after all! Were you hiding here to take revenge on Ms. Lang?!"

Jeff retorted directly, "Are you crazy? Do you think this is a place you can just barge into? Get out!"

Jeff was the chairman of Horizon Group and the owner of this place. How could he allow Ryan Caldwell to act so presumptuously here!

Ryan was indignant at Jeff's arrogant attitude. "Oh ho, how dare you talk to me like that? This is my sister Victoria's office—you're the one who should get out! Isn't that right, Sister Victoria?"

Snap!

Victoria Lang slapped Ryan across the face and shouted angrily, "Who's your Sister Victoria! Call me Ms. Lang!"

Ryan looked embarrassed, and Rachel Brooks's laughter could be heard from outside the door.

Ryan gradually sensed that something was wrong. It seemed like everyone knew Jeff was in Victoria Lang's office.

But why hadn't Rachel Brooks and the others stopped him?

Ryan thought for a moment, then suddenly pointed at Jeff and shouted, "I understand! You're not here to get revenge on Ms. Lang—you're here to be her bodyguard!"
