Chapter 25 - Taking on the Role of CEO!

The lead officer glanced at Emily Harper, then at Ryan Caldwell, and without asking, he could guess that the two had a special relationship.

The officer said, "Ms. Emily Harper, we have no right to arrest Mr. Jeff without concrete evidence."

"If you insist that we arrest him, please provide evidence such as video or photos of him stealing the watch, or proof that he sold the watch and obtained the money."

"Also, let me add one more thing: stop calling your ex-husband a penniless pauper or a good-for-nothing. After all, you were husband and wife, and it's too hurtful to say such things to him."

Emily snorted coldly. "I didn't say anything wrong. If he had any ambition at all, I wouldn't have divorced him!"

"Did you divorce Mr. Jeff...?" the second officer asked in surprise.

Emily seemed quite smug. "That's right, I took the initiative to divorce him! Has he already regretted it?"

The second officer dared not reveal Jeff's true identity, so he could only suppress his laughter and give Emily a thumbs up.

He thought to himself, "You're the one who should regret it, not the husband with billions in assets and the chairman of Horizon Group!"

Seeing that the two officers were about to leave, Emily asked again, "Um... is there a woman in his room?"

The lead officer shook his head. "Mr. Jeff is alone in the room. There is no one else."

Emily felt much better and muttered to herself, "I knew he still loved me."

Seeing Emily's arrogant demeanor and unaware of the grave mistake she had made, the lead officer sighed and left.

After the two officers left, Ryan wondered, "Why were they so polite to Jeff when they came downstairs?"

Emily didn't pay attention to these details. "I need to call my mom right away and have them collect evidence!"

Emily had just taken out her phone and hadn't even had a chance to call Susan Harper when Brandon called.

"Hey, sis."

Emily rarely received calls from Brandon, but this time it was probably because of Jeff that they'd been in contact so frequently.

Brandon also feigned friendliness, saying, "Emily, how's things going on your end? I heard you called the police. Did they arrest him and take him to the station?"

Emily answered truthfully, "No, the police said they couldn't arrest anyone without evidence."

"Evidence? What kind of evidence?" Brandon asked.

Emily said, "Evidence of the stolen watch, or a receipt for the sale of the watch."

Brandon thought for a moment and realized that there was no way to prove Jeff had stolen the watch—because the watch had not been stolen by Jeff at all.

But now that the watch was in Brandon's hands, he could forge evidence that Jeff had sold it!

Brandon said, "Leave this to me. I'll find out who he sold the watch to. Don't worry, I'll definitely send him to prison!"

After hanging up the phone, Emily felt flustered and kept fiddling with her hair.

On one hand, she wanted to punish Jeff, so that he would treat her like a queen, pamper her, and not dare to talk back. Whatever she said was law, and Jeff was not allowed to get angry no matter what she did.

On the other hand, she didn't want Jeff to actually be sentenced.

After all, they had been together for three years and were husband and wife. How could Emily bear to let Jeff spend ten years in prison?

Ryan, standing beside her, watched Emily constantly tossing her hair in a sexy and alluring manner, and he couldn't help but swallow hard.

He grasped Emily's hand and said, "Darling, shall we stay at the Four Seasons tonight as well?"

Unexpectedly, Emily flung Ryan's hand away and slapped him across the face.

Snap!

Emily said, "You can't even handle Jeff, and you still have the nerve to sleep with me!"

After saying that, Emily stormed off.

Being slapped in the hotel lobby was no honorable thing. Ryan covered his face and thought to himself:

"Jeff, you ruined my fun tonight! When you get out, I'll make sure you don't get away with this!"

He walked over to Tyler, the manager who was watching the commotion, and vented his anger on him, grabbing his shirt and ordering:

"Notify me immediately once Jeff leaves the hotel!"

...

Six o'clock in the morning.

Jeff changed into a suit and leather shoes, tied a tie, and used hair oil and hair clay to style his hair into a side-swept hairstyle, making him look handsome and like a CEO.

This was the first time Jeff had worn a suit in three years.

Even Emily might not recognize him for a few seconds after seeing it.

When he came downstairs, the front desk staff were all dumbfounded.

"A domineering CEO... His demeanor is completely different from when he came yesterday!"

"I'm in love! I wonder who's so lucky to be his wife?"

The two receptionists were staring at him, and the manager, Tyler, immediately came over and scolded them. "Look at you two, acting like you're infatuated! Mind your manners!"

Afterward, Tyler walked out of the hall and made a phone call to Ryan: "Jeff has gone out."

Ryan had already arranged for people outside the hotel to follow Jeff immediately.

Jeff hailed a ride-hailing car and arrived at the CBD building where Horizon Group was located twenty minutes later.

Today was his first day in office.

Stepping out of the car, Jeff looked up at the towering building that seemed to reach into the clouds, a smile playing on his lips:

"Victoria Lang, you cut off my path to survival yesterday. I wonder what your attitude will be when you see me again today!"
