The Lost Vampire System Chapter 31 - Vampire Prince in the Infirmary
A few minutes went by as the two students waited for Keira to wake up. Nothing much happened as both of them were deep in their own thoughts, Madison thinking about Jareth's two situations and Jareth about Keira and not much about NYXIS. After a few more moments passed, Keira started to stir from her sleep, which snapped the two students from their thoughts.
"Should I get the nurse?" Jareth asked as he was about to get up.
"No, you idiot," Madison snapped back in a hushed tone. "We need to make sure she doesn't snitch first."
Jareth stopped getting up as he sat back down.
Keira started to sleepily open her light green eyes. Her eyes shimmered like emeralds as she slowly looked around the room. Red moved onto her face as she whipped her head to the side.
"Where…am I?" she croaked as she tried to sit up.
"Whoa there, cutie," Madison said as she tried to gently push Keira back onto her bed. "You're alright."
"J…Jareth," she asked in a sore voice. "Where is Jareth? I need to—"
She didn't finish as she had turned her head and met his gaze. Her eyes widened in fear as she opened her mouth, but before anything could come out, Madison had placed a hand over her mouth.
"Shhh," Madison calmly shushed Keira, but it seemed to have the opposite effect as the poor girl started to panic.
Keira started to squirm until Madison roughly pinned her onto the bed, worried that someone might hear. Keira's light green eyes started to tear up as Madison began to talk.
"We don't want to hurt you," Madison whispered into her ear. "Let us explain our side of the story first." Madison lifted her head up to make eye contact with Keira as she still looked freaked out. "I'm going to remove my hand from your mouth, and you're not going to freak out, alright?"
The two girls kept looking at each other until Madison repeated herself.
"Alright?"
Keira nodded and Madison slowly moved her hand away from her mouth. Keira's lower lip was quivering, but she didn't freak out. That was when the nurse walked in.
"Yay, she's awake," the nurse cheered in her normal voice. She frowned as she noticed that Keira had tears in her eyes. "What happened? Do you remember anything?"
Keira glanced to face the two, and Madison showed a serious expression on her face.
"I…I…I don't remember," she stammered as she was conflicted on what was really going on.
"You sure?" Amara asked.
Keira paused before she nodded again.
"Ok," Amara said. "I'll run a few tests, and you can call me when you remember, ok?"
Keira nodded as she wiped the tears away. The nurse did her tests and asked Keira a couple questions, looking at the other two students every other question. After Amara was done, she left the room. After that, Keira slowly turned her head toward the two.
"Good, good," Madison said as she nodded in satisfaction. "Thanks for giving us a chance."
She turned and punched Jareth across the face. The Half‑ling's head snapped to the side as a trickle of blood went on the window. Keira covered her mouth as a little scream escaped her mouth.
"Ow," Jareth grunted as he bit his lip so as not to yell.
"Minus 8 Health Points," the system announced. "Your jaw has been broken. HP: 12 of 20."
Jareth turned his head back to face the two, and his face looked like it had been punched in the same spot over and over again. Madison had a huge grin on her face as she wrapped her left arm around Keira, who was peeking through her fingers.
"What was that for?" Jareth growled as his eyes flickered red, though you couldn't quite tell as his face looked smashed in.
"I got revenge for you, Keira," Madison giggled as she hugged the confused girl tightly.
Jareth waited for his emergency healing to kick in, but it never did.
Why isn't it kicking in, Jareth thought in confusion. Does it only work in the game and not in the real world? I guess I have to evolve two more times to get that ability. At least I have passive healing.
"You are no longer in combat," the Draven system announced, which put a smile on his face. "Passive healing will now take effect."
If you stared at Jareth's features of his knocked‑in face, you could see it start to heal, but to most it looked like nothing was happening.
Madison's smile dimmed a little as she noticed that he wasn't healing.
"Why aren't you healing like you did in the game?" she asked. "A defect vampire or something?"
"I'm not a full vampire yet," Jareth said rather well through his circumstance. "The game somehow showed my future potential. My passive ability kicked in though."
Madison sighed as she got off the bed to get an extra-large mask and gave it to Jareth to wear.
"I don't want Amara getting suspicious of what type of power you have," she said.
Jareth quickly placed the extra‑large mask over his face as his jaw, which had been broken at the end, healed. That was when the gears in Keira's head seemed to click as she finally registered what Madison had called Jareth.
"Vampire," she muttered, but the sensitive hearing of the two supernatural creatures had heard what she said and froze.
Madison eventually broke the silence. "How do you know?"
"You asked if I was a defective vampire," Jareth said through the mask.
Her mouth moved to the side like she should've realized that. Keira started to clench the sheets of the bed that she was in, and Jareth noticed this.
"I'm sorry," the Half‑ling said. "I know this must be a lot for you to grasp, but apparently, I can't tell how hungry I am while in NYXIS. When I got out and you were there, the hunger hit me all at once and…here we are."
Keira stared at Jareth like she had just witnessed him eating his own poop.
"You, okay?" Jareth asked.
"Give her a moment," Madison snapped. "We just threw all this information on her, and did you forget that you attacked her as well?"
While the two began to quietly bicker like an old married couple, Keira was deep within her own mind.
Vampires? Like the ones in the fantasy books that I like to read? This is a dream come true. Well, not getting attacked by one, but a vampire prince sweeping me off my feet. A true dream.
On the outside her face started to grow red through her freckles as she had forgotten what was happening and was just in her dream.
"Someone's in vampire romance land," Madison snickered as she was right in front of Keira.
The two had stopped bickering, and Madison went to tease Keira for slipping into her thoughts, while Jareth went to the other side of the room to check on his face.
"Please, shh," Keira begged, but Madison just giggled.
"He's not even paying attention."
The two girls looked at Jareth, who was across the room, as he was checking up on his injured face and paying them no mind.
"Besides," Madison continued, "he wouldn't even have known what you were thinking about. Your vampire prince…is WAITING!" She raised her voice on the last word, and Keira clutched onto Madison's clothes in her attempt to keep Madison's voice down.
Jareth didn't even register it as he seemed to be in love with himself, paying very close attention to his passive healing over his face.
At this point Keira had calmed down from before as she realized that these two were not bad but just protecting themselves. She could understand why they did not want people to know what they were. Without a backing, if the Military faction or any other groups found out about them, they might want to experiment on them for being different. They might not even consider a separate race, but that they had something that they did not. After all, if you had what Jareth had and an Evolved power, the human race's power would increase against the Lyracken. Just two vampires alone in this world. At least she assumed that Madison was also a vampire.
