They remained like that for a long moment, grinning from ear to ear as the moonlight danced in their eyes.
The silence of the room was heavy with everything they hadn't been able to say for months.
Keifer leaned in further, moving with agonizing slowness until their foreheads pressed together, sharing the same air.
Jay's smile widened as she closed her eyes, letting out a soft, shaky breath.
She felt Keifer's thumb brush against her cheek, his touch so light and careful, as if he were afraid she might disappear if he pressed too hard.
"Jay," he whispered.
"Hmm?" she answered, her lashes fluttering open.
"I love you."
The words sent a shiver of pure electricity through her.
Jay's hand moved instinctively to touch his face, but it stopped midway.
Her gaze began a slow, wandering journey, traveling from his dark brown eyes down to the bridge of his nose, the sharp line of his jaw, and finally landing on his lips.
Keifer caught the look and a confident smirk tugged at the corner of his mouth.
He reached out, capturing her hovering hand and pressing her palm firmly against his cheek.
At the same time, his other arm tightened around her waist, hauling her flush against him.
Jay's breath hitched, the heat crawling rapidly up her neck as she bit her lip, her eyes now locked onto his.
She didn't pull away.
Instead, her fingers slid from his cheek to the back of his head, tangling in his hair as she leaned in.
Keifer's hand traveled from her waist to the nape of her neck, his pulse racing against her skin.
They were just inches apart, the space between them disappearing—
"Jay...". (Ok curse me)
A groggy, sleepy voice cut through the tension like a knife.
In a blind panic, Jay's survival instincts kicked in. She didn't just push Keifer; she launched him.
With a forceful shove and a frantic, poorly aimed kick to clear the space, her foot landed squarely and painfully.....there....u know....where I mean.
Thud!
Keifer went flying off the bed, hitting the floor with a muffled groan of absolute agony.
Damm!
He curled into a ball on the rug, his face turning purple as he fought the urge to scream, clutching his stomach and gasping for air in total silence.
"Jay? Are you awake?"
Sophia mumbled, rubbing her eyes as she turned over to Jay's side.
Her eyelids were half-closed, her hair a messy bird's nest.
"What's with all the thumping?"
Jay froze, her heart hammering against her ribs so loud she was sure Sophia could hear it.
She pulled the duvet up to her chin, staring at Sophia with wide, terrified eyes while Keifer lay trembling and speechless on the floor just inches away.
"I... uh... I just fell!" Jay squeaked, her voice an octave too high.
"I mean—my pillow fell! Go back to sleep, Soph!"
Jay's heart was practically vibrating against her ribs.
She watched Sophia's eyes begin to flutter shut, thinking she'd actually dodged a bullet, when a strained, gravelly voice rose from the side of the bed.
"It's not her... it's me who fell."
Jay's eyes nearly popped out of her head.
Keifer, still pale and wincing from the "parting gift" her foot had given him, hauled himself up from the floor.
He was clutching the edge of the mattress for dear life, trying to maintain some shred of dignity while his soul was still hovering somewhere outside his body from the pain.
"Keifer..." Jay whispered, her face pale.
Sophia didn't go back to sleep. Instead, she sat bolt upright, snapping her arms across her chest.
She leveled a terrifying, soul-piercing stare directly at Jay, her eyebrow arched so high it practically disappeared into her hairline.
Jay gulped, feeling like a deer caught in high-beam headlights.
But Keifer had reached his limit with the rules.
Before either girl could utter a word of protest, he scrambled onto the bed with the grace of a mountain lion.
He didn't just sit there—he completely caged Jay.
He hooked his arms around her waist, pinning her arms down, and locked his legs over hers, effectively anchoring her to the mattress.
Jay stared up at him, her mouth agape in total shock.
He was being completely, 100% shameless.
To drive the point home, he leaned down and planted a loud, lingering kiss on her cheek, making her skin burn a bright crimson.
Sophia's eyes narrowed into dangerous slits.
"What," she said, her voice dropping into a low, predatory growl, "are you doing here?"
"Sleeping with my wife," Keifer shot back instantly, his jaw set in defiance.
"She's not your wife!" Sophia snapped.
"Then I'm sleeping with my girlfriend,"
he corrected himself, not loosening his grip on Jay for even a second.
"Keifer, I'm telling you," Sophia warned, pointing toward the door with a finger that shook with rage,
"get out."
"No. I won't,"
he replied flatly.
Jay's head was spinning, her eyes darting back and forth between them like she was watching a championship tennis match—right to left, right to left.
"Keifer..." she tried to intervene, her voice tiny and nervous.
But he didn't let her finish.
He leaned down and nipped at the corner of her lips in a quick, soft peak, effectively silencing her and leaving her breathless.
"I'm staying," he murmured against her skin, looking Sophia dead in the eye. "Deal with it."
"Keifer, you... you...!" Sophia sputtered, her finger shaking as she pointed at him.
"What 'you'?" Keifer imitated her tone perfectly, a mischievous glint in his eyes as he pulled Jay even tighter against him, nuzzling his face into the crook of her neck.
He was shamelessly cuddling her now, acting as if they were the only two people in the room.
Sophia huffed, realizing Keifer was a lost cause, and shifted her focus.
She scrambled onto her knees on the bed, towering over them like an angry judge.
"You!... Leave him!
You tell me!"
she demanded, pointing an accusing finger at Jay.
"What is he doing here?"
"Me... umm... he... was..." Jay stammered, her brain short-circuiting from the proximity of Keifer's lips and Sophia's interrogation.
"Jay, Jay, what the hell did he do to you?"
Sophia cried out, looking genuinely distressed.
"You were my innocent, shy friend! What happened?"
"It's just your hallucinations, Soph,"
Keifer interjected, his voice dripping with playful sarcasm.
"She's not innocent. She's got tricks that make even 'bad boys' like me feel shy sometimes."
Jay's eyes went wide. "Me—?!"
Before she could defend her honor, Keifer leaned down and gave her another quick peak on the corner of her lips, effectively stealing her words and making her quiet again.
"KEIFER! I'm telling you, get out of my roommmmmmm!" Sophia screamed, her patience finally snapping.
"What if I don't?"
Keifer challenged, not moving a muscle.
"Then... then..." Sophia scrambled for leverage.
Her lips curled into a triumphant smirk. "Then I'll tell Mom."
Keifer didn't even flinch.
He matched her smirk with an even colder, more confident one.
"Oh, really? Then I'll tell her, too—about how you were the one who broke her favorite vase in a fit of anger.
You know, the one given to her by her bestesttttt friend?"
Jay, who had been trying to shrink into the mattress, just watched the two siblings trade blows, enjoying the warmth of Keifer's hold despite her shocked expression.
It was like watching a high-stakes poker game.
Sophia's smirk vanished instantly.
Her face went pale as she stared at her brother.
"How... how do you know about that?"
Keifer's smirk widened into a full-blown grin of victory.
"I have my ways, little sister.
I have my ways."
He just let out a long, satisfied hum, closing his eyes, burrowing his face deeper into the crook of Jay's neck.
"Okay, if you have more topics to argue about, then we can continue,"
he murmured, his voice muffled against her skin.
"If not, then I'm sleeping."
He tightened his hold, his breath warm against her collarbone, causing Jay to turn a shade of crimson red that felt like it was glowing in the dark.
"Nooooo!" Sophia screamed, clutching her head as if it were about to explode.
"What 'no'?" Keifer asked lazily, popping one eye open to look at his sister while intentionally cuddling closer to Jay.
"You have something else to argue about?"
"Ughhhhh! Stop doing that!" Sophia wailed, covering her eyes with her hands.
"Stop! My eyes are losing their virginity watching you two! It's traumatizing!"
Keifer let out a dry chuckle. "Then you can go out. Problem solved."
"It's my room!" Sophia shrieked, kicking the mattress in frustration.
"Then let us go," Keifer countered instantly, already starting to shift as if to carry Jay out of the room right then and there.
"No!, I won't let her go!" Sophia snapped, stuck between not wanting them together and not wanting to lose the argument.
"Okay then."
Keifer closed his eye again, settling back down and pulling Jay so close that she was practically merged with him.
He looked like he was ready to drift off into the best sleep of his life.
Sophia watched them for three seconds—Keifer looking smugly comfortable and Jay looking like she was about to pass out from blushing.
The sight was too much for her.
"Ugh, okay! Go! Just both of you, go!"
Sophia yelled, pointing dramatically toward the door.
"Get out before I actually call the police on my own brother!"
**
The hallway was silent once more as the door to Sophia's room clicked shut behind them.
Keifer stood there with his chest puffed out slightly, looking incredibly proud of his tactical victory over his sister.
Jay, on the other hand, looked like she had just survived a whirlwind; she was still standing in a bit of a daze, her mind struggling to process how she'd gone from a peaceful sleep to a three-way sibling brawl.
"Jay..."
"Huh?" she squeaked, her head snapping up as she finally came back to reality.
He grinned, the moonlight catching the triumphant spark in his eyes.
"Let's go... to our room,"
he said softly.
The way he emphasized 'our' made a fresh wave of heat rush to her face, but a small, genuine smile finally broke through her shock.
He slipped his hand into hers, his fingers lacing firmly with hers as he started to lead the way down the hall.
They had only taken two steps when Jay suddenly stopped in her tracks.
Keifer turned back, a look of concern flashing across his face.
"Jay? What happened?"
Jay didn't say a word.
She just stood there, looking up at him through her messy, sleep-tousled hair.
With her cheeks still dusted pink and her eyes wide and soft, she looked so breathtakingly beautiful, cute and adorable that Keifer felt his heart physically melt in his chest.
Slowly, she opened her arms wide, blinking up at him with a silent, playful request in her eyes.
He let out a low, breathy laugh, shaking his head at how easily she could wrap him around her finger.
"You're lucky you're cute," he teased.
He stepped forward and slid his arms effortlessly around her waist, lifting her up.
Jay instinctively wrapped her legs around his waist and hooked her arms around his neck, burying her face against the cool skin of his shoulder with a happy sigh.
Keifer paused for a second to press a lingering, tender kiss to her forehead.
"I've got you," he whispered.
Jay rested her head against him, closing her eyes as she listened to the steady, rhythmic beat of his heart.
She didn't mind the walk at all now.
As he carried her down the quiet hallway toward their room, both of them were wearing matching, unstoppable smiles.
**
They reached the sanctuary of their room, the door clicking shut and locking the rest of the world—and Sophia's teasing—outside.
Keifer moved with a gentle intensity, laying Jay down against the pillows.
He followed her down, hovering over her, his weight supported by his forearms as he looked at her with a gaze that could melt iron.
His fingers reached out, slowly tucking a stray lock of hair behind her ear.
The feather-light trail of his skin against hers sent a violent shiver down Jay's spine, but she didn't shrink away.
Instead, she let out a soft breath, her eyes sparkling with a sudden, daring fire.
Before he could say a word, her hands traveled up, her fingers tangling firmly in the hair at the nape of his neck.
With a decisive tug, she pulled him down, crashing her lips onto his.
For the second time that day, Keifer was caught completely off guard by her boldness, his eyes widening for a fraction of a second before they fluttered shut, losing himself in her.
The kiss wasn't like the desperate one on the bridge; it was deep, hungry, and full of a territory-marking passion.
It was the taste of months of longing finally being satisfied.
Their breaths mingled as the kiss deepened, becoming a rhythmic, soul-searing exchange.
Keifer groaned low in his throat, his hands sliding up to cup her face, his thumbs stroking her cheekbones as if trying to memorize the feel of her skin.
It was an intoxicating swirl of warmth and velvet pressure, a silent conversation where they poured every "I love you" and "I missed you" into the touch of their lips.
Finally, oxygen became a necessity.
When they eventually broke apart, they were both completely breathless, their foreheads pressed together as they gasped for air.
Leaving each other's space didn't feel like an option; the gravity between them was too strong.
Keifer, overwhelmed by her sudden boldness and the sheer intensity of the moment, let out a shaky laugh and flopped onto his back beside her.
He stared up at the ceiling, a wide, triumphant grin plastered on his face as his chest heaved with heavy breaths.
Jay lay there beside him, her heart hammering like a trapped bird.
She was even more flushed than before, her lips slightly swollen and her mind reeling from her own impulsive courage.
She couldn't believe she had been the one to start that.
A few seconds passed as the adrenaline slowly ebbed away, replaced by a heavy, comfortable exhaustion.
Keifer turned on his side toward her, his smile softening into something infinitely tender.
He reached out, hooking an arm around her waist and pulling her firmly against his chest.
Keifer tightened his hold, his chin resting atop Jay's head.
Just as she was beginning to drift off into a blissful sleep, she felt his chest vibrate with a suppressed, mischievous chuckle.
"You know," he whispered, his voice thick with a playful, teasing edge,
"you technically just kicked our own future kids back there in Sophia's room."
First she blink sometimes, trying to understand what he mean.
But then the realization hit Jay like a bolt of lightning.
Her eyes flew open in the dark, and her face went from a soft pink to a blazing, nuclear shade of crimson.
The image of him curled in a ball on the floor flashed through her mind, and the sheer embarrassment of her panicked reaction made her want to hide under the mattress forever.
"Keifer!" she hissed, her voice a mix of a squeak and a groan.
Unable to find words for her defense, she raised her hand and gave his chest a firm, muffled smack.
Keifer didn't flinch; instead, he let out a low, hearty chuckle that rumbled through his ribs and into hers.
He caught her hand, pressing a quick kiss to her knuckles before pinning it gently against his heart.
"Okay, okay," he murmured, his voice softening as he pulled her even closer, molding her back against him until there wasn't a breath of space left.
"I'll forgive you... this time."
Jay grumbled something unintelligible against his shirt, but she didn't pull away.
She closed her eyes, listening to the steady rhythm of his heart, and finally allowed herself to sink into a deep, dreamless sleep in the safety of his arms.
