Chapter 87 - Chapter 87 : shut up

Sophia stumbled down the corridor, moving like a sloth with her eyelids half-closed and her hair a chaotic, tangled mess.

"You're awake?" a voice called out.

Sophia looked up to see herchaotic, tangled mess. mother standing there.

"Hey, Mom. Good morning," she murmured with a sleepy smile, leaning in to give her a hug.

Her mother hugged her back warmly before pulling away slightly.

"Isn't Jay awake yet?"

Sophia simply shrugged her shoulders.

"I don't know."

Her mother raised an eyebrow, looking confused.

"Isn't Jay in your room?"

Sophia shook her head in denial, her sleepy expression shifting into a knowing grin.

"Then... where is she?"

Instead of answering out loud, Sophia gestured with her eyes toward Keifer's bedroom door.

Her mother's mouth formed a perfect 'O' of realization before a matching grin spread across her face.

She signaled for Sophia to follow her.

As they reached the door, her mother extended her hand toward the handle.

"Mom? You? What?" Sophia whispered frantically.

"What 'what'?"

"I mean—" Sophia gestured pointedly toward her mother's hand on the knob.

"What are you trying to do?"

Her mother simply smacked her arm.

"Shut up."

"Ow, Mom!", sophia groan massaging her shoulder.

"Shh..!"

"Oh... okay."

Slowly and carefully, they pushed the door open.

"Didn't they lock the door?"

Sophia whispered as it swung open without any resistance.

Her mother just rolled her eyes, not bothering to explain that Keifer must be clearly too distracted to worry about locks.

They peeked inside and found the two of them fast asleep, lost in a deep cuddle.

Jay was draped over him, and Keifer was holding her tight.

"Wow, they're looking so cute,"

Sophia whispered, her heart melting a little at the sight.

"I know," her mother whispered back, sounding incredibly proud.

"That's my genes."

Sophia turned and looked at her mother in total disbelief, wondering how she could possibly take credit for their romance at a time like this.

"What about dad?, he invested too.", sophia ask with raising a brow.

"Don't you think, it's not a good choice to talk about these kinds of things in this early morning.", Her mom answered rolling her eyes.

She again look at her in disbelief.

"By the way, Mom," Sophia whispered, still lingering by the door,

"why didn't you just let them get married? I mean, why did you postpone it? They were already married before, so..."

She threw her hands in the air, struggling to find the right words.

"You know what I mean, right?"

"Yeah, yeah, I know exactly what you mean," her mother muttered, awkwardly scratching the back of her neck.

She turned away slightly, grumbling under her breath,

"How am I supposed to tell you that I just needed a servant for a little while longer?"

"Mom?" Sophia asked, noticing her mother drifting off.

She waved her hands in front of her mother's face to snap her back to reality.

"Nothing, nothing!" her mother exclaimed, her eyes darting around as an idea suddenly popped into her head.

A small, awkward smile spread across her face.

"I just... you know... I wanted them to enjoy their dating era first! anak!"

"Oh... kay," Sophia replied, raising a skeptical eyebrow at her mother's suspicious behavior.

"Anyway, forget about that," her mother said, quickly changing the subject.

"Why are you so sleepy? Didn't you sleep well last night?"

Sophia rolled her eyes, muttering under her breath so quietly her mother could barely hear.

"Yeah, sleep. It was great. All thanks to your 'genes' and his soulmate."

"Soph...?" her mother asked, mimicking her daughter's earlier gesture by waving a hand in front of her eyes.

"Huh? Nothing, Mom.

Just... forget it.

Let's just go get breakfast. I'm starving."

**

In the quiet of the bedroom, Keifer began to stir as he felt a familiar, comforting warmth pressing against him.

It was a heavy weight—enough that his right shoulder had gone slightly numb from the lack of circulation—and something soft and silky was brushing against his face, tickling his skin with every breath he took.

As he blinked his eyes open and tilted his head back a fraction, a low, involuntary chuckle rumbled deep in his throat.

He didn't even realize he was laughing until the sound filled the silent room.

Jay wasn't just sleeping next to him; she was practically sleeping on him.

More than half of her body was draped across his, her messy hair spreading like a dark silk fan over his face and the pillow.

Her face was tucked perfectly under his chin, her small arm was wrapped tightly around his broad chest, and her right leg had completely hooked over both of his, anchoring him to the bed.

She looked like a tiny koala refusing to let go of her favorite tree, completely lost in a peaceful, deep slumber.

Keifer moved with careful precision, slowly stroking her hair away from his own face before gently brushing the silky strands from hers.

As the curtain of hair cleared, it revealed a very cute, adorable "koala" smiling peacefully in her sleep.

A tender smile spread across his lips.

Caressing her cheek with the pad of his thumb, he whispered softly,

"Sunshine, wake up. It's morning."

No response.

He chuckled, his voice a low vibration beneath her.

"Sweetheart, wake up."

Still, nothing.

He raised a brow, tilting his head back slightly to get a better view of her face.

Instead of waking, she simply tightened her hold on him, dropping her weight even deeper into his chest as if trying to merge with him.

"Ja... y..." he whispered again, his voice like a caress.

"Soph... please... just five minutes more," she mumbled into his skin.

Keifer threw his head back, chuckling softly at being mistaken for his sister.

He leaned down and pressed a lingering kiss to the top of her head, his fingers smoothing the hair back from her forehead.

"Wifey..." he teased, his voice dropping to a husky, playful tone.

"Shut up, hubby..." Jay grumbled, her voice thick with sleep but laced with a stubborn edge.

"I told you... ten minutes more."

His eyes first widened in sheer surprise, and then he let out a genuine laugh, instinctively wrapping his arms even tighter around her.

Is this an earthquake?

(Seriously what the hell am I writing)

Jay thought groggily.

She could feel the warm mattress beneath her shaking rhythmically.

She slowly opened her eyes, blinking against the light.

As she tilted her head up, she saw Keifer laughing softly, his whole chest vibrating under her.

Watching him look so happy made a small, sleepy smile spread across her face.

She closed her eyes again, ready to drift back off, but then...

realization hit her...

like a lightning bolt.

Her eyes snapped wide open in total shock.

She looked around and finally realized her position: she was practically sprawled right on top of him.

"Good morning, Jay..." Keifer said, his voice warm and teasing.

She turned her face up toward him with a painfully awkward smile, her index finger reaching up to scratch her scalp nervously. "Good... morning... Keifer."

Panicked, she tried to push herself up using his shoulders for support.

"I... I'll just..."

"Ow! Wait, Ja... y!" Keifer groaned, a flash of pain crossing his face as her palm pressed directly into his numb shoulder.

"Keifer? What happened?"

Jay asked, startled.

She immediately moved her hand, placing it on the mattress on either side of his head, hovering over him with a worried expression.

"Wait... wait,"

he managed to say.

He reached out and wrapped his arm around her waist, slowly guiding her to lie on her left side beside him, while tucking his left arm comfortably under her head.

He moved with careful, deliberate slowness, his lips twitching into a thin line as he managed the discomfort.

Jay didn't understand what was wrong, so she stayed silent and still, simply observing him and blinking in confusion.

"Are you fine? What happened?"

she asked softly, her hand reaching out to gently touch his shoulder.

He offered her a small smile. "It's nothing."

But he couldn't help but flinch a little when he tried to adjust his arm.

"Keifer, what happened? Please tell me,"

she pleaded, her voice tinged with guilt as she remembered how she had been sleeping.

"Is it because of me?"

"Hey, no," he said gently, using his good hand to caress her hair.

"It's just... my shoulder is feeling a bit numb."

"Oh... one minute," Jay said, her expression shifting into one of focused determination.

She began to softly run her fingers over his numb shoulder, her touch light and rhythmic.

Keifer let out a low chuckle, watching her.

"What are you doing?"

"Shh... let me do it," she shushed him, not breaking her concentration.

"Ow, Jay, it's tickling!" he said, giggling like a kid as he tried to pull his hand away to stop the sensation.

Jay didn't indulge him; she playfully smacked his chest.

"Can't you sit still for a bit? Just wait!"

Keifer made a weird face at her, amused by how quickly she had switched from her cute, sleepy self to this strict, bossy version.

He stayed put as she ran her fingers over his shoulder again.

He giggled once more, the tickling sensation still there, but this time he didn't try to remove her hand.

Jay couldn't help but laugh at his reaction, her eyes crinkling.

"Jay, now stop it, please," he managed to say through his laughs.

"Jay, stop!"

Finally, she pulled her hand back. Between lingering laughs, Keifer asked,

"What were you even doing?"

"Move your shoulder," she commanded.

"Huh?"

She gestured pointedly with her eyes. "Move your shoulder."

He rotated his arm tentatively, his eyes widening as the feeling returned.

"Wow... it's not numb. I didn't know my wi—" he caught himself, a smirk playing on his lips, "my gf was a doctor, too."

Jay's cheeks flushed a deep, bright crimson at the mention of being his girlfriend.

The reality of their relationship and proximity on his bed felt new and overwhelming in the best way.

Embarrassed by the heat in her face, she tried to scramble up to get out of bed.

"I... I should get up."

But Keifer was faster.

He reached out and pulled her back, pinning her flush against his chest.

"Jay, five minutes more."

"But Keifer, your mom w—"

Before she could finish her sentence, Keifer leaned in and pressed a quick, sweet peck onto her lips, effectively silencing her.

She was a deep shade of crimson now, her eyes locked onto his in a mix of shock and shyness.

She looked like she was trying to process his words, but her brain had clearly hit a standstill.

He let out a low, vibrating chuckle at the sight of her bright red face.

"You know, I can't believe a small peck can make you flush this much,"

he teased, his eyes dancing with mischief as he leaned in closer.

"Especially when you seemed to have no problem practically eating me alive last night."

Her eyes widened even further at his words.

It wasn't just her cheeks anymore; the heat traveled rapidly, turning her neck and her entire face a burning shade of red.

She looked like she was about to go up in flames from pure embarrassment.

"Kei..." she started, her voice barely a whisper as she tried to find some sort of comeback.

But before she could say another word, he reached out, his hand sliding softly behind her neck to pull her forward.

He didn't wait for her to finish; he simply pressed his lips to hers in a gentle, lingering kiss.

When he finally pulled back just an inch, his forehead resting against hers, he murmured against her lips,

"You know... this is the best morning ever."

She smiled softly, keeping her eyes closed as she rested her forehead against his.

The peace of the moment was perfect, but as soon as she felt his grip on her waist loosen just a fraction, she seized the opportunity. She bit her lip and scrambled out of his hold, practically jumping off the bed until her feet hit the floor.

"Jay..." he groaned, feeling the sudden loss of her warmth.

"What? I... I need to go," she stammered, her breath coming in heavy, shallow hitches.

She refused to look at him, her heart still racing from his proximity.

"I'm getting late for university. You... you are too."

She started taking quick, hurried steps toward the bathroom, desperate to hide her blushing face behind a closed door.

Keifer didn't chase her.

Instead, he stayed right where he was, lazily sliding his hands behind his head to use them as a pillow.

He watched her retreat with a confident, playful smirk.

"Okay, so we're getting late," he called out, his voice smooth and teasing.

"Wanna take a bath together to save time?"

Jay froze in her tracks, her hand hovering just inches from the bathroom door handle.

The suggestion made her head whirl, and for a second, she couldn't even find her voice.

"KEIFER!" she finally shrieked, her voice cracking slightly from the sheer audacity of his question.

She didn't dare turn around, knowing that if she saw that smug, handsome smirk on his face, she'd probably pass out from embarrassment.

Without another word, she lunged into the bathroom and slammed the door shut, the click of the lock echoing loudly in the room.

Keifer burst into a loud, boisterous laugh from the bed, the sound echoing through the door.

He could practically imagine her leaning against the wood on the other side, clutching her chest and trying to breathe.

"I'll take that as a no!" he shouted, still chuckling.

He stretched his limbs out across the entire bed, finally reclaiming the space now that his "koala" had retreated.

He stared up at the ceiling, a goofy, lopsided smile plastered on his face.

The numbness in his shoulder was completely gone, replaced by a warm, tingly sensation that had everything to do with the girl currently hiding behind the bathroom door.

"Don't take too long, Jay!" he called out playfully.

"Unless you want me to come in and check if the shower is working properly!"

A muffled "SHUT UP, KEIFER!" came from behind the door, followed by the immediate sound of the water turning on to drown him out
