The air between them was electric again.
Keifer's hands slid upward, his palms cupping Jay's neck as he tilted his head, his gaze dropping to her lips.
Jay's eyes fluttered shut, her breath hitching as she leaned into him, ready to lose herself in another kiss that felt like it had been years in the making.
HONK!
HONK!
HONK!
The sudden, aggressive blare of multiple horns shattered the silence.
They both flinched, jumping apart as if they'd been caught doing something illegal.
Three cars screeched to a halt right in the middle of the bridge, surrounding them like a coordinated police barricade.
Two cars had pulled up from the right—one a Farari, the other a BMW.
From the left, a familiar compact car slammed its brakes.
The doors flew open almost in unison.
From the first car on the right, Aries and Percy stepped out.
Percy was already holding his phone up, recording the whole thing with a wide, mischievous grin.
From the BMW behind them, Mr. and Mrs. Watson emerged, Keifer's mother clutching a silk handkerchief to her mouth with an expression of pure, delighted shock.
From the left, Sophia and Cheska tumbled out of their car, Sophia still having traces of that green mud mask near her hairline and Cheska whistling loudly.
They all stood there, grinning like absolute maniacs, watching the disheveled couple standing barefoot and bruised in the middle of the street.
"Bravo! Encore!" Percy shouted, clapping his hands.
"The Golden Boy finally found his shine!"
"I told you the drainpipe move was a classic!" Sophia yelled across the road, her eyes sparkling with triumph.
Keifer let out a long, pained groan.
He didn't even look at them. Instead, he dropped his forehead onto Jay's shoulder, hiding his face in the fabric of her floral dress as his shoulders slumped in defeat.
"They can never just let me have my moment," he groaned into her shoulder, his voice muffled and miserable.
"Never. Not even once."
Jay couldn't help it.
A bubbly laugh escaped her as she reached up to pat the back of his head, looking at their friends and family with a flushed, happy face.
"At least we have an audience, keifer,"
she chuckled, squeezing his arm.
"They wouldn't be our friends if they didn't ruin the climax."
**
The chaos of the bridge had finally settled, transitioning into the grand living room of the Watson mansion.
Keifer and Jay were perched on the central sofa, looking like two bedraggled runaways, while the rest of the group sat opposite them in a semi-circle, eyes darting between the couple like they were watching a high-stakes interrogation.
The silence was broken by Mr. Watson, who leaned forward with a look of desperate hope.
"So, when are you planning to get married?"
He asked, his voice carrying a hidden layer of relief.
To him, Keifer finally settling down meant he might finally get a break from being his wife's slave.
Keifer's lips curled into a confident smirk as he glanced sideways at Jay.
Jay, however, felt the heat rise to her face, her cheeks turning a vivid shade of pink.
"I—" Keifer started, but his mother stood up abruptly, cutting him off.
"They are not getting married,"
she announced firmly.
The room exploded.
"WHAT?" everyone shouted in unison, Percy even dropping his phone in shock.
Mrs. Watson rolled her eyes at the dramatic reaction.
"I mean, not until they finish their college,"
she clarified, shooting a knowing, triumphant smirk toward her husband, whose face immediately fell.
"But...!" Mr. Watson tried to protest, his dream of "freedom" evaporating, only to be drowned out by Sophia's loud voice.
"Does that mean they're going to just live like they were before?" Sophia asked, leaning in with an arched brow.
"I want you both to focus and complete your studies first," Mrs. Watson insisted, her tone leaving no room for argument.
Keifer didn't look nearly as patient.
With a sudden, possessive movement, he hooked his arm around Jay's waist and pulled her flush against his side.
Jay let out a small gasp as she was dragged into the curve of his body.
"Kiefer...!" she hissed, her face burning, but he didn't budge.
"I am not going to stay like that," Keifer declared, his voice dropping to a stubborn growl.
"I want my wife."
Mrs. Watson laughed, shaking her head.
"See? I'm not going to let my daughter marry you this early while you're still this impulsive. But,"
she paused, her expression softening,
"you can be her boyfriend. I won't deny you that."
Jay's head tucked lower, her heart racing at the word boyfriend.
"Jay?" her mother-in-law asked gently.
"Are you okay with my decision? Or are you also as desperate as he is?"
Jay's eyes widened to the size of saucers.
She stared intensely at her own lap, her fingers twisting the fabric of her torn dress.
"No, Mom... it's okay. I'm okay with it."
Keifer let out a small huff of disappointment, but the smile remained in his eyes.
He leaned over and planted a lingering, defiant kiss on Jay's blushing cheek, causing Mr. and Mrs. Watson to clear their throats loudly in a "polite" warning.
"I think we should go to sleep. What do you think, sweetheart?"
Mr. Watson asked, eager to escape the tension.
"Yes, I think so. Let them enjoy their 'dating' phase,"
Mrs. Watson replied, winking as they stood up to head upstairs.
As soon as the parents were out of sight, the "audience" pounced.
Percy suddenly gasped, his hand flying to his chest with the dramatic flair of a Shakespearean actor.
He stumbled backward, feigning a dizzy spell as he looked at Keifer with wide, wounded eyes.
"You... you... you betrayed me!" Percy wailed, his voice cracking with mock heartbreak.
"You don't love me! All those years of friendship, and now... you have a girlfriend? What about me, huh? What about our bond, Keifer? I'm just a discarded memory now!"
Keifer rolled his eyes so hard it looked painful, while others burst out laughing.
.
.
.
After the endless rounds of teasing finally wound down, Aries, Percy, and Cheska waved their goodbyes, marching toward the exit to head to their own homes.
The house finally felt quiet, leaving the newly minted couple standing in the hallway under the soft glow of the chandelier.
They stood in front of Keifer's bedroom door.
Keifer turned to Jay, a playful, triumphant grin spreading across his face as he gestured with his eyes toward the door.
The implication was clear, and Jay felt a wave of heat crawl up her neck, her heart skipping a beat.
He reached out, his fingers interlacing with hers, and his hand was just inches from the doorknob when a sudden grip caught his wrist, stopping him cold.
It was Sophia.
She stepped between them with a look of pure determination and pulled Jay toward her.
"Sophiaaaa!" Keifer whisper-yelled, his eyes wide with frustration as he extended his hand in a desperate attempt to grab Jay's hand back.
"What are you doing?"
Sophia pulled Jay firmly behind her back, forming a human shield.
"Hey, hey! Excuse me!" she said, popping her hip.
"Okay, I understand you're her boyfriend now—congrats, really—but that doesn't mean she's sleeping in there."
She pointed a sharp finger toward his bedroom door.
"I can't take the risk," Sophia muttered under her breath, pulling Jay even further away.
"Sophia, I'm telling you, leave my wif—girlfriend alone!"
Keifer hissed, catching himself on the title but still looking ready to stage a rescue mission.
Sophia raised a hand, cutting him off.
"Let's be fair. Let's ask her." She leaned in close to Jay's ear, though her voice was perfectly audible.
"Jay, please understand... I cannot be an aunt this early. My heart isn't ready for that kind of responsibility."
Jay's eyes widened to the size of saucers, her entire face turning a shade of red that rivaled a tomato.
She looked at Sophia, who was nodding her head up and down with a dead-serious expression.
Jay gulped, her gaze flickering toward Keifer.
He was looking at her with pure, puppy-dog hope, his hand still reaching out.
"Keifer..." she started, her voice small.
He leaned in, certain she was going to choose him.
"I'll... I'll stay with Sophia," she said, offering a small, awkward smile.
"What?! Why?!" Keifer shouted, his shoulders dropping in a display of dramatic agony.
Sophia raised her hand again like a victorious general.
"She told her decision. Now get out—I mean, get in."
She pointed toward his empty room.
"Go to sleep, Romeo. Alone."
**
The room was bathed in the soft, silvery glow of the moonlight filtering through the curtains.
It was the dead of night, and the mansion was wrapped in a heavy, peaceful silence.
On the large guest bed, Sophia and Jay were deep in sleep; Jay was curled on her side facing Sophia, while Sophia was sprawled out facing the wall, snoring softly.
In her sleep, Jay felt a familiar, comforting warmth blossom around her waist.
A heavy arm slid over her, pulling her back against a solid chest.
Still half-lost in a dream, she smiled unconsciously.
She turned her body around, seeking more of that heat, and buried her face into what felt like a warm, firm wall of muscle.
Her arms wrapped around him instinctively, her fingers bunching the soft fabric of a shirt as she let out a contented sigh.
The grip on her waist tightened, drawing her even closer until there wasn't an inch of space between them.
Jay smiled again, basking in the security of the embrace, but then something small clicked in the back of her mind.
Wait... I was sleeping in Sophia's room.
She paused, her breath hitching.
Is Sophia this... solid? Since when did she get so warm and smell like expensive sandalwood?
Slowly, her eyelashes fluttered open.
She pulled her head back just an inch, her eyes adjusting to the shadows.
Instead of Sophia's face, she found herself staring into a pair of dark, shimmering eyes.
Keifer was lying right there, watching her with a gaze so full of tenderness it made her heart skip a beat.
She blinked, looking around in a daze.
They were definitely in Sophia's room.
Sophia was still right there, sleeping soundly behind Jay's back.
Jay was sandwiched squarely in the middle, and Keifer had somehow managed to sneak in like a silent shadow.
"Keifer...?" she breathed, her voice a tiny thread of sound.
He didn't say a word at first.
He just reached out, his hand sliding to the back of her head to pull her back into the crook of his neck.
"I was missing you," he whispered against her hair, his voice vibrating deep in his chest.
The sheer recklessness of him being there—and the fact that he couldn't even last five hours away from her—sent a wave of affection through her.
A shy, radiant smile crept onto her lips.
She shifted her weight, moving herself up until she was at his face level, their noses almost touching in the dark.
"Me too,"
